  • the runway at cfb trenton is 1.5 miles long and a c-5 dosen't have a promblem land at trenton and there is a 10 feet differnce in between aircraft and i hear the pilot was drinking and the surface was wet

  • my dad was working at MAMS when this happenened

  • Ohhh geeezz....Quinte West OPP and Quinte West Fire Dept. mixing with the MP's and CFB Trenton Fire Service...a recipe in itself for a disaster. Nevermind the Antanov ripping out a section of chain link.....

  • @Martins219 HEEHEE! My late-father was a mechanic for CFB Trenton and he used to call the MP's "meat heads."

  • Was in A train going near the base when that happened.

  • that IL-76 incident involved the trees near RCAF Road, not the fence

  • and they bought the property by my house its a hell of alot 2 its almost doubling in its size

  • and the trenton air base is the largest in canda for its runway size and that plain was huge

  • Actually no. 4 Wing Cold Lake Runway 13L/31R is 12,600 ft and 8 Wing 06/24 is 10,000ft.

  • I know that Goose Bay has the biggest ramp!!!! I bet your gonna sleep better now knowing that.

  • Goose Bay does have a big ramp actually. I lived there for a few years when it was a good size base. So no something that I already knew isn't going to help me sleep better. But thanks for trying.

I have to ask what does the size of the ramp have to do with our discussion about size of the runways?

  • ha i live on this road i was there when it happend i was driveing buy thought the whole plane was going 2 crash it took part of the fence with it

  • Well, the Atonov is a big bird, not all runways can take it... and certainly not all pilots can fly it, specially after having vodka hahahha ok that was a joke. I respect the plane and it´s designers, just that it´s so freaking massive it can´t land everywhere. It´s too unconventional, like the Concord, two big assed totally missunderstood and underestimated planes.

  • well the government has bought up all the farms that are north of the airbase.... hopefully with all that extra land they'll be able to takeoff/ land that big bird and leave some of the fencing. :P

  • They had another incident in summer 2007 I believe, or maybe it was this one, where the plane landed in Ottawa after leaving Trenton and was tailing the fence behind it still when it landed sending sparks everywhere. The fencing was stuck in the landing gear doors.

  • No it was a different one. An IL-76, that was supposed to wait for de-icing and didn't, took off in heavy fog and took out a portion of the fence.

  • wrong it was on landing in heavy fog, it was an IL though.

  • Man, thats the White's Road end isn't it? Looks too close to be RCAF Road. Good thing no one was driving past right then.

  • yes, it was on the White's Rd end... yeah, if a car/truck had've been driving by, it would have been totalled... it was definitely a near-miss.

  • @Saguanay I was just thinking that...I think it is White's Road.

  • Hey Fingers

I think you will find that the crew were Russian..............No Brits fly the Mighty Antonov 124's

  • Whoa whoa whoa, this is ANOTHER instance where an Antonov damged Trenton???

I remember when a British crew landed one and didn't touch down soon enough and buried it in the ground at the end of the runway.

You mean to tell me this was ANOTHER one??

  • Yes...this happened in the night back in May of this year....thats what happens when u have too much vodka before flying :P

  • @Finger2212

Brit crews have NEVER flown the AN124 or AN225!! All crews are Ukrainian or Russian!
