@SregorNadroj electroclash is a term that describes electronic music which borrows heavily from simplistic, minimal synthesizer bands of the late '70s and '80s. The term associates itself with a flamboyant fashion sense that usually accompanies the music, all which is a part of the 'electroclash' scene.
mannn, i love electroclash, and idk what yall r talkin about, ya here in the USA its pretty dead 2 the mainstream, the last major electroclash project here when Felix Da Housecat in the late 90's when he was working with Miss Kitten (a French electro clash star) and even sense then Miss Kitten has gone back 2 Europe and Felix has moved on from electroclash.
@shoreline1230 I'm glad you appreciate our penises, but do you really think a history will fit in a youtube comment? It's even bigger than...well, yes.
Not a single true statement in the whole video. Just another journalist who spent one minute misunderstanding a wikipedia article, then went in front of the camera trying to sound like an expert.
I wouldn't call Ladytron Electroclash. Just because someone figured out how to label Synth Jesus Christ. Guess what Enon was in NY a long time before this jackass figured out the word electroclash and a good deal more bands to.
"There stage shows take presidence over there actual music" - well, lady GaGa used to work in a performance art group with lady starlight! Not aying she's electroclash, but there is what seems like influence!
The industry kills and steals from the underground.then it finds a way to prepackage and market it to the households, then it makes it the new "cool" thing... guess that sums up lady gaga.. I thought she was Fischerspooner meets Goldfrapp when i saw her photo, but when i heard her music i wanted to kick a hole in the radio. yeah she sucks that much!
that discussion is very good, cause i think there is too much empty pop around trying to be something it is not. But what i dont understand, is how this categories as rock?
If you look at Felix Da House Cat, he sampled the whole back beat of "The Sound Of The Crowd" by The Human League from 1982 on his track "Harlot", the opening track from "Kittenz & Thee Glitz"
Also a track like "Warm Leatherette" by The Normal, circa 1980 is another track that Electroclash heavily borrowed from! One more thing, Player 1 had "Space Invaders" in 1980 long before this so called first Electroclash track born in "1998" which funnily enough has "Space Invaders" in the title!
Yes, Electroclash does have a slightly different feel to Synth Pop. BUT it's not something that came out of the late 90s. Tracings of Electroclash go right back to the late 70s with offerings from the likes of Fad Gadget, Early Human League, Kraftwerk, Telex & many more.
Electroclash is just an extension of what bands like Yazoo, Early Depeche Mode, Soft Cell, Visage and many others were doing long ago! It is just a progression in style which depends on what taste one has in Electronic Music
The first song (when the clip starts) is Ooh, I like it - Whatever it Takes. Second is Emerge - Fischerspooner. Third (the video with the three models in the back) is My Friend Dario - Vitalic. Fourth (vid with the subway thing) is Rocket Ride - Felix da Housecat. Fifth is Set it Off - Peaches. Sixth (vid with pink stripe) is Seventeen - Ladytron. Seventh (vid with black mask) is Professional Distortion - Miss Kittin.
Hope that helps!! :) I love all of these groups/artists.
wrong. the band "The Normal" started Electroclash in 1979 with the hit songs "Warm Leatherette" and "TVOD." Everyone after that was a follower who claims "they started it." As long as we are doing "history" here.
Technically electroclash is a big mesh of different electronic styles of music. Most notably (as stated above) early analog synthpop, electro-funk, ebm, italo-disco, house (and it's many variants). But yeah "The Normal" were one of the first (pre-dated by The Human League, Kraftwerk, and a handful of other 70's artists)
actually you're both wrong, electro-clash is punk meets electro. you might be thinking of electro-wave instead, but even that is more electrotechno based.
btw the normal songs came out in 78' not 79'. anyway it doesn't matter because the whole sheffield futursim sound was in 77-79. they all wanted to be kraftwerk
Damn straight it's picked up in Aus! It's a great genre, really flashy and bouncy. Plus with groups like The Presets, Cut Copy, Bang Gang, Tonite Only, Gameboy/Gamegirl, PNAU and Van She, the aussie music scene would be shit right now. The only downside is The Veronicas stole the sound, so it'll be commercial within a year. :(
yeah it's pretty wacky i suppose, more kinda alternative than anything. Fluoro was really big last year but now it's a old, bizzare patterns n cool tshirts n shit are in now. check out pics of Gameboy/Gamegirl and The Presets for the style. They're on myspace
Does anybody know the name of the band/song for the music video with all the scantily clad girls in daisy dukes and bikinis using power tools (jack hammers, etc.)?
no, right. ive been into the underground scene a lot longer than you. you have no clue whatsoever. youre calling pink electroclash for god's sake. what the hell do you know?

I was making the point that even pink. lady gaga, and lilly allen often try to dress in the electroclash style and yes in fact they do have some electro sounding tracks on their cds. So you clearly lack the proper mental acuity to comprehend, plebeian.
they are not electro clash per se but they are using electro in their music and electro clash elements in their fashion styles to some extent. they are wannabes, much like you.
electroclash in 2000?! are you kidding me what about felix da house cat doing the second wave of house, that branched off to electroclash back in the early 90's !
furthermore house is dead and has been for a while. what's big is e-clash, e-wave, etc. people went way back in time to create electroclash and meshed human league, fag gadget, the normal, kraftwerk etc. i.e. techno.
Ok, so from what I know, the clip with the people painting stipes on their faces is from a song called "Emerge" by FischerSpooner, the one with the girl in sunglasses from the song "My Friend Dario" by Vitalic and the girls in black with the red stripe behind them from the band Ladytron.

you'd have to make it more of a party/beach/porn/girls with big tits type thing for it to catch on in the mainstream. I would fully supoport that but you need a few bands like that in each area to get a scene going.
the rave scene was big, mtv just didn't want any part of it. but i think electroclash is anti-rave and more pro 80s techno and new wave from everything i have scene.
can someone tell me the name of that song right in yhe begining that goes like "tell me that you like it, uh uh, let me see the way you move a woman around". WAY COOL!
I don't agree the slightest. Electroclash is basically just rip offs of old wavey stuff like Gina X etc. I cant see any similarity between Space Invaders and any Miss Kittin or the Hacker crap, nor David Caretta and his ilk which I wouldnt call electroclash anyway. Have you heard anything else by I-F like Quest, Holding your breath, Nothing else or I do because .. ? Pretty far from electroclash in any way.
Fuck electroclash! And by the way, Ladytron are NOT electroclash. Check Ladytron and electroclash Wikipedia pages.
