It is Fundamentalism that is incompatible with reality, not Religion in general. As even Dawkins said, some scientists do believe in some sort of higher power, or general meaning of life. As a believer, I find it embarrassing when Fundamentalists claim Religious belief is based on the same sort of physical evidence as Science, it isn't, that's why it is Religion, not Science.
But why believe it if it doesn't actually have any fundamentals behind it? You can't call faith a fundamental, it's just a blind belief. You should believe in Santa Claus too then, because like "God", theirs nothing that proves or disproves him. Science is the best tool mankind has for properly understanding the physical world, but I don't need everything in my life to be proven by science and logic. Gut instinct, philosophy, art and religion have their place informing my worldview, too. It isn't logical at all, but I'm OK with that. read the definition of religion. Atheism IS a faith. Some atheiests are religious and some are not. I believe many people relentlessly stick to athiesm. Athiesm is not disproving of anything, if it was we would all be athiests. You have given theism a double standard of religion.
Faith is a complete trust in something based on perception rather than physical evidence. The scientific method states that if old ideas aren't compatible with new evidence then the old ideas should be thrown out with new ideas put in their place. Atheists aren't "faithful" to ideas or theories. If sufficient evidence arises, there is absolutely NO reason to keep an old idea if it cannot be modified. Atheists never stick to a disproven idea, that is most certainly not the definition of faith.

Being an atheist is a oxymoron belief. Why? Most atheist do not have enough faith that God does not exist, so they spend a lot of their time running websites and writting books trying to convince themselves and others of this. Then they spend their hard earned money buying stuff trying to convince themselves even more.
So either they are chasing ghosts, or God really exists they just prefer to say he does not. Because it's kinda stupid to say it, then spend all that time and money to prove it

If Itruly believed that God did not exist, I wold not waste a second of my time, or a dime of my money on it. But there is this obession that even though people will swear up and down God don't exist. That they just don't believe what they are saying themselves, and therefore have to prove it to themselves. I guess it's like having to have justification for an belief you cannot really prove to the extent that would give one enough faith to just leave it alone.

It is Fundamentalism that is incompatible with reality, not Religion in general. As even Dawkins said, some scientists do believe in some sort of higher power, or general meaning of life. As a believer, I find it embarrassing when Fundamentalists claim Religious belief is based on the same sort of physical evidence as Science, it isn't, that's why it is Religion, not Science.

You should believe in Santa Claus too then, because like "God", theirs nothing that proves or disproves him. You should also know that as a believer, you have to believe in all the bad things about your religion to. You can't just ignore them. So you believe in Jesus coming down, and killing everybody, and ending the world, and you belive in slavery.

I don't take everything in the Bible literally, it's full of allegory, poetry, and morality plays, a history of people struggling with issues of morality. I choose to view the entire Bible through the lens of the four Gospels, and apply the phrase from the book of Matthew, "Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so." to verses that seem at odds with a compassionate and ethical deity.

Science is the best tool mankind has for properly understanding the physical world, but I don't need everything in my life to be proven by science and logic. Gut instinct, philosophy, art and religion have their place informing my worldview, too. It isn't logical at all, but I'm OK with that. As for your own assertion, It's also very reasonable to refuse to believe in things that don't make logical sense.

Faith is a complete trust in something based on perception rather than physical evidence. The scientific method states that if old ideas aren't compatible with new evidence then the old ideas should be thrown out with new ideas put in their place. Atheists aren't "faithful" to ideas or theories. If sufficient evidence arises, there is absolutely NO reason to keep an old idea if it cannot be modified. Atheists never stick to a disproven idea, that is most certainly not the definition of faith.

It's really easy... faith is devined as belief without proof. Atheism refuses that tenate and demands that all claims be supported by proof, subject to inquiry and sketically examined at all levels. This is why atheists don't believe in God, because there is NO evidence to support the claim that he exists, therefore an atheist is led to conclude that he doesn't. It's a very scientific attitude, no great shock then that Dawkins is a scientist himself.
