Lillian Roth is spoofing Mae West, who recorded her own version of the song several years later. Ethel Waters also recorded a version for Decca, complete with Mae West impersonation.
One of the last things Roth did was a Broadway production for David Merrick of Harold Rome's I CAN GET IT FOR YOU WHOLEWASLE. She played Eliot Gould's mother (he was an anti-hero, a heel). This was the musical that made a star out of Barbra Streisand, who had the 11 o'clock number "Miss Marmelstein". It was a very good show that didn't make it. Sheree North and Harold Lang and Marilyn Cooper were also in it.
Skippyd89-I found the recording of -Wholesale - years ago at the public library.I really had only wanted to hear the very young Barbra, but I was impressed by all of it. Sorry that the show never really clocked .
Thanks for posting. Always love seeing anything with Lillian Roth and wish there were more stuff out there. What a lovely, talented woman. She had a life with a lot of sadness but evidently some happy times, too. Her tombstone reads, "As bad as it was, it was good." Great philosophy. She never gave up, and wanted to be active in her career up till the very end.
Cinema is amazing... we are living in the 21st century now... and most of these people in the video are probably dead.. i was born in 1985.. i like sum of the old films though especially Hitchcock
Use to be. If you got a girl up to your room and removed some clothers. You had acomplished something. Now they come that way. No mistary. (Except Aids or something) Not the same.
the young girls could definitely learn from this. how be seductive without being SLUTTY. thanks for posting. really enjoyed a realy enjoyed seeing a real woman for a change.
Wish we still had the costume to view. I really like this. I don't know much about Lillian Roth. I thought this was Mae' s song but this is great Thanks.
Must have been produced before the Hayes code was imposed.

Does anyone know if there is an uncut version of this out there? I did not think she ever showed boobs but she may have. Very hot for those days.

Lillian had it all. Great voice, shape(thin for that era), too bad she was an alcoholic,

I'm willing to bet that in 1933 that would have been considere slutty.
