  • I remember when the movie came out and my father took me to the premier. Seen all the stars from the movie. Never get tired of looking at the DVD. All the Super-Stars from the movie are slowly leaving us and for that reason we ALL must cherish the the ones still here. R.I.P. Lena Horne, Nipsy Russell, Micheal Jackson, Ted Ross, Melba King. Love all you then and are still in my heart. Thank-you for the memories you left me with.

  • Never get tired of this movie or song

  • Pretty Lights - If I Could Feel Again <3

  • PLZ TELL ME WHERE I COULD FIND THIS SONG

  • lmao i was expecting the beat to drop and nas to start rappin

  • NAS picked a fantastic tune to sample from. I usually don't go hunting for a sample, unless it moves me.

  • One of my favz!

  • I loooooove this song

  • One person didnt know to do..

  • But that's the whole tragic point, my friends...Simply Beautiful song!!!

  • If it wasn't for "The Wiz" I would have thought this was some song from 1920's minstrels it really has that Southern minstrel feel or one of those songs you hear from the Harlem Cotton clubs

  • This is a damn good song and it makes for an incredible sample as well

  • thumbs up if pretty lights brought you here

  • my school is doing The Wiz for production and I would love to the The Tin Man :)

  • if only that one dis like could feeeeeel!!!!

  • I'm 32 going on 33 next month and i literally grew up with this movie because my parents ALWAYS watched this movie and I'd watch it with them of course. Even at the age of maybe 3 or 4, this song has always stood out to me, the way he sings this song really gets to me, and even more so now as an adult. I can honestly say that this song does bring tears to my eyes because the depth of the song is so deep that you cant help but show some emotion, and how much i miss real music.

  • This song gives me chills..........

  • This is the best song ever, On me!!!

  • I feel this song in my heart...I'm so glad I can feel.

  • Gonna sample the shit out of this song

  • Deep & Many Thanks For The Post !!!

  • The whole tragic point my friends is NAS took this song and destroyed in the name of RAP.... vomit...

  • @stromboldt You know that Nas is the greatest rapper of all time, right? And rap isn't what you hear on the radio. That's mainstream. Nas wasn't on the radio much. His best songs weren't. He provided depth in his lyricism, and he rapped for a purpose. C'mon man.

  • @OfficialStephenNiday Nas is the greatest rapper of all time??? Based upon what? Your obsession with the guy?

  • @stromboldt Based on everything he did for music. He's not my favorite rapper, and I don't have an obsession for him. If you actually hear his music, and listen with an unbiased ear, you might learn something.

  • @stromboldt Hip is to know, Hop is a movement, Hip Hop is intelligent movement. NaS is not rap but Hip Hop.

  • @BRAZEN08 I hope you're not referring to the crap that plays in the top 40 every week...

  • @stromboldt that's the point

  • @stromboldt oh bawww. Another person that dislikes rap for absolutely no logical reason whatsoever.

  • @SymbiSpidey Because for some reason taking a vocal sample or live instrumentation sample and using it as a template and making something completely new with it is completely uncreative.Covers are ten times better, you don't have to write the song or music, just sing words someone else wrote and performed before you and people will love it.That's the only way to go because if you're going to use something you didn't create, don't put your spin on it because being a follower is what makes legends.

  • @bandicoot2ps1 Well said.

Seriously, people support covers of all sorts of songs where all the artists do is replay the same exact notes from the previous song on whatever instrument, and then copy the lyrics word for word? But twisting and re-structuring the melody altogether is bad?

Honestly, I think people just look for reasons to hate and look down on rap music. Not to mention that there are many producers out there who are capable of both sampling AND making their own original sounds too.

  • @stromboldt I guess you understand now whats the difference between Hip-Hop & Rap LOL now wipe that vomit off the floor because if it wasn't for NAS the younger generation wouldn't even know about this song!!!! It would be like few hundred views for this amazing song

  • @stromboldt Nasir Olu Dara Jones is one of the few true geniuses of today in the music industry. He didn't destroy this song, sampling a song is a rapper's ultimate way of paying tribute to the greatest artists of the past. You need to quit thinking so narrowmindedly an accept the fact that hip hop isn't all about the stupid bullshit that you hear on the radio, and that there's real artists out there like Nas that actually put at least as much soul into there music as artists like Nipsey Russel.

  • @stromboldt have you ever even actually listened to what he's saying in surviving the times? that's some real shit.

  • this music is for listening to the soul and not with your ears

  • WHO WAS IT THAT DISLIKED THIS SONG!!!!! YOU HAD TO NOT HEAR THIS SONG

  • You guys should listen to clyde carsons song what would i do. He sampled it and its perfect.

  • I cry EVERYTIME...

  • Thumbs up for Pretty Lights.

  • Check Nas's "surviving the times".

He sampled this song and made a great song explaining how he came up as a rapper.

  • I LoooooVvvvvvEEeee This Song It Alway's Bring Me To Tear's...

  • Man I'm 21 y/o and this was my mothers favorite movie and when I was younger she bought it for me after looking everywhere for it! I was watching this part cause it's my favorite song in the whole movie and I'll never forget my mom going on about how it was her favorite when she was a kid too. Great song!

  • THE MOST SOULFUL SONG HANDS DOWN

  • great song

  • I remember when my brother played the Tinman in this...I had never heard this song and my brother sang it so beautifully I just started crying...I was fourteen...jeez...

  • Surviving the times

  • this always makes me cry

  • Put it into your own perspective, or leave it as it is... Song is deep.

  • nas is like, surviving the times.

  • Nipsey <3

  • Everyone should listen to the Pretty Lights version of this song.

  • im listening to this cause i have the dvd of this movie but it keeps skipping.....

:'( i loooove this movie soo much! this is the part where the thing skips....

    wish a miracle would happen.....

  • @fluffypillow916 LOL, just buy a new copy then, no miracle needed for that to happen.

  • this song is fucking huggeeee!

  • Damn,...this feels good. Thumbs up if you feel the same!

  • One of my favorite throwbacks

  • I really like this song!

  • can somebody post the song from the wiz when the old lady with numbers in her hair is singing about the numbers

  • @tynderskin34 Do you mean the song when MISS ONE sings HE'S THE WIZ????????????

  • I love dis shit..I feel it in ma heart...Dis is soul music

  • @MrCparks92 If you really loved it you would not be using lousy lingo like shit to call this lovely piece of work.

  • NAS!

  • Music ID fail.

If you're going to have an auto-labeling system have one that recognizes the remix vs the sampled song.

  • @Karlfalcon this is the original

  • @MrGreenSting

    Yes, that's my point.

  • @MrGreenSting You mean the original as in to the movie, right?

  • @jojo34209 yes

  • aww he's in a bteer place now

  • 1 person doesn't have a heart and cant feel

  • The crazy part about this is that Nipsey Russell was a comedian with a voice this soulful.

  • so much soul.

  • RIP Nipsey....you gave this Tin Man a heart....and a soul!

  • to me, the wiz is just as good as the wizard of oz. . it did not do well at the box office becuz i think people were afraid of it like willy wonka in the 70s. very good music (quincy jones) and great acting (ross, jackonson, etc)

  • I love this movie!!!

  • This song and Lena Horne singin "If You Believe" are the 2 songs I absolutely love from this movie. As a matter of fact, the only reason I bought the DVD was to see Lena Horne (R.I.P)! Lol! After watching a few times, I fell in love with "What Would I Do."

  • <3 the wiz with all my heart and this song is so wonderful. On a sidenote: If Tim Burton even TOUCHES the Wiz, i will have flying monkeys set upon him to eat his flesh.

  • @pepperannziggi I agree finding stars that could carry songs would be an issue, but imagine Jamie Foxx could perform What Would I Do. Stephanie Mills singing ability during that time was much better than Diana Ross. Not slamming Ms. Ross, but the role should have gone to Stephanie, however Ms. Ross got it on star power and the backing of Motown.

  • I hated the wiz, one of the scariest movies I've ever seen as a child, especially those "monsters" working in that sweatshop....SCREW YA'LL MAN!!

  • so much emotion in nipseys voice and indeed in this song. love the wiz so much xxx

  • @princessalikababy123

Jamie Fox could sing What Would I Do. I agree that finding stars that could carry the singing would be issue. Stephanie Mills version of home is much superior to Diana Ross' version. Not slamming Ms. Ross, but Stephanie Mills should have played Dorothy in the film version, but Motown turned the musical into a movie and Diana was given the role.

  • @ KhooksMixer

Yeah, I guess the role of the Wiz should be given to Dave Chapelle

  • @KhooksMixer - Samuel Jackson would have to be the Wiz! If not Samuel, then it would have to be Chris Rock or Jamie Fox. We need to start a facebook page on remaking the Wiz. Just as one was created for Betty White to host SNL.

  • 1:51 is ma favorite part

  • I love this song so much!!

  • This song evokes powerful emotions in me.

  • I Was Young I Was Surviving The Time...

  • @DJDonrickyTV Waiting for my moment, I was destined to shine

  • @DJDonrickyTV NAS my man:)

  • @SzakalBWA Yessir!!! :)

  • RIP Nipsy! You can tell that he wasn't just singing he was putting his heart in it.

  • best song of the movie i think

  • i looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiittttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt my fave what would i do if i could feel

  • @miss09laurenyeah the part was funny lol

  • This was on 24/7 Mayweather-Mosley.

  • @bigmalc89 the nas version was on 24/7.

  • @jerrylanderos Ooo yeah with money mayweather

  • mafas aint knowin

  • Damn! tickle them ivorys.

  • if you like this song listen to Lowkey - Just Shine .. its a nice sample from this song -- peace

  • Great song beautiful melody and the piano riffs and horns blend perfectly. So poetic and smooth all those old timers were pretty smooth like teddy barry white and ofcourse the multi talented nipsey.

  • I LOVE this movie + the song. GIT IT NIPSEY!!! :)

  • For whatever reason I can't find the actual scene of the movie where he sings this on Youtube. Shame... But it's an epic song anyway.

  • i love when the statues started singing and scarecrow was like wtf was that? XD

  • I just found the original Broadway cast recording (I'm assuming it was on Broadway, but I have no idea) and I have to flip that version of this song. The main chords are slightly different so I think I'm gonna call it Surviving the Wiz or something along those lines. Shit sounds too dope.

  • I love this song!! But does anyone else remember him singing it all serious and the back-up singing flowers behind him scared the Scarecrow and the Lion when they just started singing out of the blue. LOL

  • @StushySCSU i remem that LOL

  • my faVORITE song of the whole movie...

  • I'm actually gonna use the bass line for my own song titled "What You Need"

  • @Lionel4482 Good choice!! You can find something to sample and use from this entire soundtrack.

  • download this at tubemusicdownload com - thank me later!

  • survivning tha times

  • the play one is more dramatic at least the one I heard. This one is really smooth though I like it.

  • Thats funny THINKLG. But I could see how it scare a child. Glad you got to watch and enjoy it in later life. I hadn't seen it in years myself and came across the video at the store the other day. It was good to watch this old classic again. To see my boy Richard (as the Wiz) and to marvel and appreciate the job Quincy Jones did. Love the musical score. My favorite back in the day was POPPY!

  • I love this

  • surviving the times-Nas

  • the music in this goes hard i just wish it was a longer song.

  • don't have anything nice to say don't say it all how rude.

  • The song was so touching

  • LOVE this song....even better on the movie when the women "statues" (they were either the three degrees or the emotions) suddenly open their eyes and start singing! the wiz was a CLASSIC that many ppl STILL enjoy!!! :)

  • I love that part where they open their eyes for the first time and the scarecrow whips around like, "WTF WAS THAT?!"

    classic movie.

  • I love that part too. lol, he did turn around like "WTF"

  • Yeah thats real funny

  • That's my favorite part! When they are like, Ooooh! Ooooh! Oooooh!

  • @chynasmom the emotions,,, lol

  • Sometimes asks myself that same questions...I've been hurt so many times I want to feel again...

  • that's hilarious!

  • You know what? That's valid.

  • do anyone know where is the real movie clip of this on You tube? cant find it know where. This or The graffiti kids part with the Numbers witch!

  • Check out my video... but it contain only the soundtrack of The Munckins

  • odrama09, i thought it was just me but that part is a little scary on the real. i cover my eyes when that part is on if i watch the movie now. LOL

  • I feel so glad that I'm not the only one. When I was a kid and this being my mom's favorite movie the subway scene would scare the crap out of me to the point I'd leave the room. And that's not good when you live in NY. For years if a column or wall was tiled the same way I wouldn't go need it.

  • when I was little this movie used to scare the hell outta me!!!lol the moving columns, and the dudes on the motorcycles.lol! it wasn't till i watched it when i was a teenager that i came to appreciate and love it!

  • Me too. i though i was the only one! 31 years later it still gives me shivers.

  • i was afraid of the pink things in the subway and the girls singing when this song was played i was 16 when i first saw this movie now a year later n im still afraid of it lolz

  • i love this song

  • if hated it then y did u look it up? noone wants ur smart ass comments

  • my dad told me he went to the movies to see this but whats funny is that he was scared at the part when they were in the subway and that crackhead looking guy made those big pink things he got so scared they had to leave the movies lol

  • smooooth jazz

  • Right!

  • THE ONLY MUSICAL I LOVE

  • Parts of this movie are completely insane, but I like this song. I like a lot of the songs, actually.

  • This is a bad, BAD song. Man...what a hell of an arrangement, and all that passion and feeling in Nipsey's delivery. Not to even mention the whole second level it works on as an anthem for a race quietly crying out to be acknowledged as equal...oh my goodness. An INCREDIBLY powerful song.

  • My god, that was so beautiful.

  • :c)

  • this is an excellent piece by npsey......i'm 15...my mom found the DVD at walmart like a year ago and she gets mad because i watch it over and over again but i love the movie and i love this song

  • I Don't Blame You. I'm 14. lol

I First Saw This Movie When I Was About 4 Y.O. At My Dance Studio, And We Did A Show Based On This.....*Sigh*. I Miss The Good Ol Days. Lol

  • THiS ONE OF MY FAVE SONGS FROM THE MUSICAL MOViE ....I'M 19 AND LiKE i KNOW EVERY SONG FROM iT...THiS iS A CLASSiC NADA LiKE iT....I HOPE THEY DON'T TRY TO REMAKE iT

  • @datrustarr I think it would be fun to have a futuristic version of The Wiz present day...Queen Latifah as Evil Witch.....Patti Labelle as Miss one.....Jamie Fox as the Tin Man? Maybe, Eddie Murphy. Chris Brown as the Scare Crow...or Neo? Beyonce or Janet as the Good Witch Glenda. I would have to give it to Janet in honor of Michael.

  • @Freedomx22 Maybe Chris Rock or Dave Chapelle should play The Wiz in Richard Pryors honor. But if they where to do remake it the would have to do major adjust to the Emerald City Scene because that was film at the WTC which sadly is gone. But Nevertheless it would be cool having a remake.Maybe J.Hudson(j/k), or Ashanti ,maybe Tajari Henson could play dorthy.

  • @datrustarr so good for samples

  • @datrustarr same here...my mom got me and my sister this movie; we were about 11 and 7. Now we're way older and know EVERY word and song lol

  • @datrustarr I AGREE!!

  • @datrustarr why not man i think if they had people put some real good music in it other than those songs at the top of the charts, it would be good. like they did R&b in here right. so imagine a neo soul wiz. that would be freakin amazing

  • I just rediscovered this film about 4 days ago. Used to be one of my favorites when I was a kid. Incredible performance by Nipsey Russell.
