They did a cover of Zappa's "Take your clothes off when you dance" on their first album. It fitted perfectly with the rest of the album. I always thought they had a kind of zappa-humour like sensitivity in their music with musical quotes, funny twists and very clever arrangments. Top Band !
Yeh, I bought "10 Mistakes" on the strength of seeing this back in the day. A much loved slice of vinyl, I don't think these songs have aged at all. Thx for posting.
Remember watching this at the time and wanting to go and see them at The Nashville Rooms and/or Marquee but had to miss them both - gutted. Must pop over to The Netherlands and catch a gig soon.....
back in 1979 I was playing this in my dorm room. A guy came running into my room. His father was the priminister of Holland! He left school after freshman year because he couldn't speak english well enough. My guess is that he became a doctor. I remember this band for making me my first friend in college.
I think it was Tony Parsons who said something to the effect that someone would have to take a hammer to his funny bone to make laugh at these twats. Dutch humour no doubt.
Gruppo were not so much the European B-52's as the Dutch Deaf School, a great bunch of loonies from Liverpool with the same offbeat humour and cabaret stance. Their co-lead singer Bette Bright even sang on one of Gruppo's albums!
don't think so jan141253, 'cause hans is wearing sunglasses, a tie and plastic pants, so gruppo is obviously playing somewhere on a beach during a funeral while promoting the use of a condom!
Ja, ja. De "tijd" gaat wel erg snel voorbij he. Maar ja, na een nacht niet slapen ontgaan je wel eens wat dingen. "Remember: BLUES is BLACK". Nog zo'n kreet. Wel leuk hoor !
I saw this band a couple of times live in Bristol during the late 70's. I think the second time was at the student union ball in 1978. Does that ring any bells with anyone else?
Nice footage!

@DERYNTHEMAN: Remember this is almost 35 years ago. Today Gruppo Sportivo consists of hearing aids with instruments. And they're still pretty good!

Since 1979 I've always wondered if Clapton, or Mayall for that matter, ever heard this song.
Great they were.

Man, you're German. Don't tell me what is funny and what isn't. That's simply beyond your grasp.

@Guedingen: So either Tony Parsons funny bone is broken, or he is a British music journalist. Could be both, of course.
