  • WISCONSIN REFERENCE!!! Center of the universe everybody :)

  • Why does everyone freak out when he says "y'all"? He's southern. Everybody says it in the south. Chill, y'all.

  • Hah. Holy crap. Winter Park high school is like 3 blocks from the college I went to.

  • I greatly appreciate the slow descent of John's eyebrows as he begins to recite the poetry.

  • So John started Brotherhood2.0? I always thought it was Hank?

  • i really like the oddly slow lowering of john's eyebrows as he begins the poem.

  • "Maybe they think that Wisconsin is a foreign country"

    Certainly. That's most definitely it.

  • Comment removed

  • y'all :3

  • He said ya'll again 0.0

  • I’ve read Paper Towns twice and rewatching all of these videos make me feel special, like he sent me a copy before he sent one to Hank and Katherine... is that so weird? Nahh...

  • I have walked around the school they learned on, I actually attended it for one year, I feel so incredibly close to them is not even funny. aaaaagh =D

  • I've just finished reading Paper Towns :)

  • They recently redid WPH. I might start going there soon, and I was sad when I heard. :C

  • ya'll again?

  • The day before this was made was my 11th birthday I'm just realizing just how old these videos are.

  • HE SAID WISCONSIN! I LIVE IN WISCONSIN MY LIFE = COMPLETE

  • @jenlaawesome ME TOO! We're our own nation now!

  • Y'all...

    I say it too :D

  • Okay, so...I really need to read that poem now.

  • It's actually called an international airport because you can check in your bags to the international destination of your choice and then pick them up when you arrive.

  • The Walt Whitman reference in Paper Towns!

  • HOW did your eyebrows do that o-O

  • YAY WISCONSIN!

  • I'm allergic to Florida... to the point where even being drugged on nyquil wont stop the misery.

  • Pshhh. I just finished Paper Towns about ten hours ago. Walt Whitman. Oh man. If only I had been here to hear all the references he dropped before the book came out. He even mentioned RHAPAW a few months ago!

  • You have totally become a Indianapolis-ist (?) You've said "y'all" in the past couple videos! Now I notice this because I live in a small town right outside of Louisville, KY... and it's a weird day if you DON'T hear "Y'all" from everyone you talk to!

  • Wisconsin IS a forign county.

  • @anna33166 Be nice to the dairy state

  • @lemonice2700 I've lived in Wisconsin my whole life. One is entitiled to poke fun at one's own state occasionally. :)

  • John saying y'all is slightly incongruous but also really fitting.

  • Also: John, your "general aura of creepiness" (@o0Theresa0o) just gave me new respect for Walt Whitman. American lit kind of killed Leaves of Grass for me...

  • I'm currently staying in Glasgow (I'm Canadian) and they say "Yous" as you-plural, which I personally prefer... Having said that, "yous" here probably has about the same connotation as "y'all" does in North America. Isn't dialect fascinating? (Answer: yes).

  • Well, I'm Canadian, and therefore say "you" as both singular and plural, and, still, putting personal feelings aside, I think that John can say whatever he bloody wants, so back off.

  • Is it just me, or does no one else ever see video games in airports? Maybe I'm crazy. Or maybe I just don't go to the right airports.

  • I thought you were going to say that he reached the kill screen, not make a lame Pac-Man marital joke.

  • @theshootingcupcake

I never thought about it before, but yeah. It's in that excited reading voice (if anyone has a clue what I'm talking about). Glad to know I'm not alone :]

  • You reading Whitman is so much more fitting than I would've realized 3 years ago...

  • @theshootingcupcake Haha! Me to! I always thought I was the only one! Nerdfighters!!

  • when other people read Paper Towns, did like, John's voice read it in your head? or is that just me...?

  • Since when is the word "y'all" grammatically incorrect? I'm quite a fan of the word, I use it every day. And thanks to you, John, for the Whitman poetry. I haven't read many more of his poems than "O Captain, My Captain", but now I will for sure.

  • John, KIND (Indianapolis Int'l Airport) is "International" because of two airlines: FedEx and Air Canada Jazz.

  • thumbs up for mrs pacman jokes.

  • It would be awesome to travel around on the pretext or researching for your book. I hope to be able to do that some day.

  • Ms. Pac-Man jokes are not too old for your audience.

  • Wisconsin ftw!!!!!!

  • You do realize that you actually gave us 3 hints? Three words: Grey. Speckled. Walls

  • These videos have made me respect writers (and the writing process) a lot more. Not that I didn't before, but...

  • Hehe, he said y'all

  • Really not too old for the audience. Not if they're even slightly awesome.

  • i heard the immortal of evanessance

  • Paper Towns made me curious enough to start reading Whitman. It's slow going, and a little... mature for me, but still beautiful stuff. Thanks, John! DFTBA

  • Did anyone read the fake walt whitman essay that was a really false but very funny thing?

  • I find it funny that ass you said "nothing collapses", the pile of grapefruit skins beside me collapsed.

  • Ahh, Whitman. I sound my barbaric YAWP!

  • I kind of just hugged my laptop when you started reading Song of Myself.

And I totally got the Ms. Pacman joke.

  • Dude wicked job reading that poem!

Wow..I think it made my pocket watch go silent o_o..amazing.

  • I never bothered reading poems...are they good?

And if they are , what ones?

  • I had a buddy, my buddy's a toad

He's kinda muddy, he's flat on the road

but he's my buddy, my buddy to stay

until he's peeled up, and thrown away.

  • Whats the title of that poem he reads?

  • I don't understand why the Indy airport is called "international". When I went to Paris, we had to detour to Chicago AND DC.

    Don't get it.

  • That is one of my favorite poems. I fixing to start reading Paper Towns.

  • This made me REALLY want a pretzel XD John I envy you.

  • I resent that people in Indianapolis might think that Wisconsin is a foreign country.

  • I got the Ms. Pacman Joke!

  • thats cool you went to Winter Park high school. My cousins go there.

  • anybody miss pac man jokes .. FTW !!

  • real really really good at miss pacman! haha

  • Isn't Whitman what Margo reads?

  • I heard Indianapolis but then you said something about Wisconsin? Connection?

  • Comment 176:

I have noticed that you're using the word "Y'all" a fair bit lately.

  • paper towns is amazing!

    <3

  • I love the word "ya'll." I use it daily (I'm from Arkansas), but it's always nice to hear it from others as well.

  • More Airports John lol. Ms Pacman rules. I love the pacman jokes John. I love video games.

  • John quotes "Song of Myself" in another video, but I can't find it. Can someone point me in the right direction?

  • living in indiana is making him say YALL!!

  • i don't say YA'LL and i have lived in indiana my whole life....

  • He grew up in Birmingham, but was born in Indianapolis... so y'all is a valid quirk to have.

It's a mash up of "you" & "all" so it's "y'all" rather than "ya'll." We have a phrase down here for such things:

If you can't spell it, don't say it. ^^

  • =( You misunderstood my tone (as often happens over the internet). I wasn't really meaning to be bitter... just explaing?

I dunno... Sorry if I offended you, though. I truly didn't mean to.

  • I live in Arkansas and Ive never said it eauther!

sorry if I offende u though!

  • My birthday!!!!!

  • Walt Whitman...

    ...is so gay. (whispers)

Not his writing; I love his work.

    He really was gay.

  • Hey...I just did an entire research project on that very subject!

  • JOHN STOP SAYING "Ya'll" U JUST CAME FROM NEW YORK! BE A YANKEE! Lol

  • I hate airport seats

and the rest of airports in general

    except maybe the video games

  • i love the obscure jokes you make :)

  • hahaha

  • i played pac-man when i was like five.

  • I appreciate his use of the word YALL. Seeing as I am southern, it makes me feel less left out.

  • walt whitman=amazing

  • agreed !

  • you started daying yall. haha.

  • Yay, Mrs. Pacman jokes! She's just so...jokes!

  • that was a very unenthusiastic reading of whitman

  • OMG i know like 30 people who go to Winter Park High!

    YEA!

now i realy realy want Paper Towns!

  • Yall? again...

  • hey.....he was born in Alabama.

.......But then he moved 3 weeks later! :D

  • walt whitman a classic.

  • Aww... John posted this on my birthday. I feel special.

    DFTBA♥

  • No. I've never beaten PacMan. The farthest I've gotten is the first septer looking object. You know - (cherry, strawberry, peach, 2nd peach, apple, 2nd apple, kiwi-thing [or maybe it's a grenade. i've never been able to decide which it is], 2nd kiwi/grenade, SEPTER.)

That's as far as I've gotten. My dad has gotten at least five levels higher (2nd septer, key, 2nd key, 3rd key, 4th key). How far does it go before you win?

  • ur glasses are different

  • i've never been a big walt whitman fan...

  • I LOVE PACMAN!

But, no, never had the patience to actually finish it.

  • okay... here's a question... has any Nerdfighter ever beat Pac-Man or Ms. Pac-Man?

  • Okay, I just want to ask one question. Considering that Paper Towns is set in Orlando, will you be having a book signing here when you go on tour/it is released? Because that would be AWESOME.

  • Stupid Youtube...

Watch at 1:51... eyebrows lowering. Creeeeeepy!!

    Haha!

  • As soon as you started reading the poetry, your demeanor changed, your eyebrows lowered, and you got this general aura of creepiness. Freaked me out a little actually.

    Watch at

  • I will never cease to feed on the spectre of ghosts. They taste like dreams and starlight. They are the pellets to my Pac-Man.

  • tehehe...he said "ya'll"

  • Pacman jokes are always good by me. Anyone know if their is a scene after the stork? cause I've never seen one after that. I figure it would be something like.

Pacman: Popping power pill Jr?! Why have you started take those?!

Jr: Dad....I learned it from watching you!

    Ms. Pacman: !!

  • It means some of the planes flight paths connect to foreign destinations.

  • i got a question

why does the video always start off gray then turn white

maybe its one of those humans will never understand questions..

  • ha, you said yall!

Gotta love whitman...he was the first poet i studied in freshman year at university,....reminisces...leaves??? wtf! its blades of grass! fine then...leaves...thats just plain cuckoo!

    LOL

that really did happen. I love university!

  • I've noticed you don't blink a lot.

  • lol "she cried delicious little dots"

  • Wow you look so serious when you say poems. LOl XD

  • y'all?? Y'all?!? Honestly!! I thought better of you. I demand an apology for your violent assault on my mental capacity.

  • Y'all is the most efficient way of expressing you plural. There's no technically grammatically correct way of doing this (I suppose that "you two" would have been acceptable, but it doesn't sound conversational to me). Anyway, I'm from the South and not embarrassed to be from the South, and I don't think that y'all is any worse than, for instance, "you guys," which you hear a lot in Indiana. -John

  • @vlogbrothers Well said, sir. I'm from Texas and hearing "y'all" is an everyday experience. I say it frequently. Learn to broaden your minds, dialects of the US are lovely and unique. Try to learn them.

  • @vlogbrothers 'y'all smoke to enjoy yourself, I smoke to die' Y'all doesn't make this quote from Looking For Alaska any less profound - y'all is just an amazingly awesome thing that only americans can get away with. damn y'all ;)

  • @vlogbrothers what about youse?

  • @vlogbrothers I've heard that "thou" is actually the singular form, while "you" is technically the plural form, but "thou" has since fallen out of usage, so "you" kind of took over both roles. Is that accurate in any way?

(Do like "y'all", btw, just wondering.)

  • @vlogbrothers You should use the term "Yuns" (meaning you), or "Yunses" (the same as Y'all)

im from around Pittsburgh and that would make my soul smile if you said that =)

  • @mach7mach10 Ya'll is a contraction I find far superior to "yousguys," as it is said in New York. In fact, "yousguys" isn't even really a contraction, it's just a slur of words. I am an English teacher, and I fully support every word of this video. Thank you, John, for using creative, colloquial language! DFTBA

  • @lilypad145 lmao an English teacher is supporting "y'all"?? Yes, "yousguys" is also a horrible word and should not be used either. There was alternatives to "y'all" and "yousguys". In my mind, both of those are equally horrible.

  • @mach7mach10 Y'all is a proper contraction, and it is used in the dictionary. Look it up honey.

To quote the Simposons: "It's idiomatic beyotch"

  • ah, poetry, my first love...let me not to the marriage of true minds...

  • Lol, I love pacman! (But I'm not very good) That pilot must be AMAZING!

    (Go pretzels)

  • Hahahha... airports... BH 2.0 wouldn't be the same without airports =)... jokes =)

  • Having flown out of Indy twice, I completely get this. That place is... woooo. It's fun driving in circles trying to figure out where the heck you're supposed to go.

  • i thought that the miss pacman thing was funny!!!

  • Does anyone know of a good, easy to use camcorder? I want to, y'know, respond with more than text but haven't done it before. So if you guys had any suggestions for a noob, I'd appreciate it.

  • Canon Elura 100. Cheap (as camcorders go), and not great quality, but that's what we use, and we've found it pretty durable. -John

  • You, darlin, should stop by and say hello. I live in orlando (joy...) and I have gotten a few of my co-workers to watch your youtube videos. We could add you to our list of celebrities... last one of note was Christopher Walken.

  • Six more months of work on Paper Towns! Thanks for the update. Sadly, I remember when Pacman was jokes to play so I got the Ms. Pacman joke. Enjoy Orlando

  • John, exerpts of Paper Towns is the best idea EVER.

  • Reading parts of your new book would be SO JOKES!

  • All they need is ONE flight to another country and then they can call their airport international. That's what Albany Ny does. Meanwhile i had pac man for my Atari

    2600

  • You look tired John.

I loved the Ms. Pacman joke though! ...it's not too old for the audience. :D

  • This was my birthday video.

    Because yesterday was my birthday.

And I like the reading-of-excerpts idea.

    A lotttttttt.

  • speaking of your novels, I just finished Looking For Alaska. I don't usually capatalize the names of books, but your book was worth it. I loved it so much and it was so goodI read all 221 pages in about 4 hours. it was honestly one of the best books I think has ever been written, so congratulations on turning in what could be a big revision on your new novel, and congrats on making an awesome first one. good luck.

  • When I'm bored I make up Haikus. :) Yay for poems!

  • YEAH! PAPER TOWNS! I can't wait to hear me some Paper Towns by John Green! I just know it will be jam packed with AWESOME!

  • where in orlando r u gonna be cuz i live by winter park and it would be cool to meet u!

  • You almost never blinked...lol.

  • lol. now that u mention it yeah LOL

  • oh wow i didn't notice that..

they do play my immortal at 1:20!!

  • i think they play evanescence at 1:20

  • I noticed that your eyebrows slowly went down as you were about to recite the poem.

  • Hey I lived there and you were just there yesterday! Holy Balls that's great. I am very much looking forward to the new book.

  • that's crazy i was leaving orlando and then you were heading to orlando. and i really can not want to hear some of Paper Town's excerpts.

  • you know what is the worst part about the indy airport... trying to get in to the Airport. round about of doom anyone. I hope you have a good a productive trip.

  • :] Best of luck on the plane trip.

It would be lovely to hear anything from Paper Towns, because if it is as good as Alaska was, it will defenitely be on my mini-library in my room.

I made the librarian order Katherines because she didn't have it and I wanted to read it D:<

    ^-^ see you...whenever you post. :P

  • LOL.

    little delicious dots.

goshh, you amaze me more and more with each video haha.

  • that was pretty intense

good work at talking to your camera at an airport because that's pretty hard, we all know it

  • hehehehehe

  • Orlando... amazing thats less than 2 hours away from me! Hooray being relatively close to someone famous on the internet.

  • That was an awesome ms. pacman joke. Can't wait to hear some excerpts from Paper Towns, if you decide to share them.

  • I know THE BEST Brothers song for Brotherhodd 2.0 and the Nerdfighters EVER! Seriously. From a production by none other than Jim Henson. The song is called 'Brothers' (from Emmett and Otter's Jug Band Christmas) and evidently i can't post a link to the lyrics :( . I can send a crappy audio file if you'd like though i'd prefer the whole movie be watched...Either way, the song is perfect.

  • I'm OLD! I remember when a 'controller' was called a 'joystick' and had just one button!

  • Hope you don't go too stir crazy working on your book. Can't wait to hear the revised excerpts! :) Love the Mrs. Pac Man jokes. I was smiling the entire time right up until you said "too old for the audience"... then I just felt very sad.

  • Hope everything goes well in Florida for you. Is it just me...or do you look tired John? You look like you have dark circles under your eyes..unless it's just the lighting. Anyways, can't wait to hear about Paper Towns!

  • lol.. delicious little dots.. nice.

  • unfortunantly i could not get a video up!

anyways, what i was going to say was that i am pretty sure i've been inside that same airport. i think i was coming home from new york. i could be wrong.

and i finished Katherines. Great Book.

i'll ask my question tomorrow because...well...it'll be cooler on video.

  • hahahaha, noice.

I love the pac man jokes!

    YAY!

    ♥Nikki

  • AHHHHHHHHHHAAAAA.....*tear*oh...funeral...delicious little dots....ah....*wipes away tears*

  • Ms. Pacman I love that game. Oh is my age showing again. I'm 21 really I'm. Looking forward to hearing the book.

  • I played pac man on the atari 2600...if only I still had that system...

  • All goes onward, John. All goes onward, indeed.

  • I always stunk really bad at Pac Man, like A LOT!

But more importantly I cant wait to hear some of Paper Towns! I'm now looking forward to Wednesday!
