In addition to my first comment, Silent Hill is about a cursed town that brings out the darkness in your hearts but in monster form. Resident Evil is zombielike viruses and dead space is a bunch of hellish demon aliens that are actual things. The thought that a monster could be anywhere is why I say Silent Hill. btw which Silent Hill did u play anyways?

These are three very different games. Dead space and silent hill is for the story, but dead space has less puzzles. Resident evil 5 is an A-C-T-I-O-N game. Not survival horror. The first 3 resident evils were. Not 5 or 4.

Dead space stands out from every other horror franchise, boldly and strongly, with only 1 major game, a short wii railshooter, animated comic, and a hour long anime movie. Things that are already in production are Dead Space 2, a new wii game (not anything conclusive), and a full feature length movie i.e. real people in it. Its new in the game, but it will very easily take controll if RE and Silent hill dont get theyre shit together (but im not complaining)

I am a preety big fan of resident evil. Have all the parts except the gay chronicles fillers. Silent hill never played before. But Dead Space blowed my dick off and poped my balls from in between my legs. That game is just pure sick and I mean that in the most litterally and slangest way as I can.

The survival horror genre imo is split up into 3 diffrent types of games

tension-Silent hill,where the game makes exploring the enviroment the scary part through sound design and lighting

shock-Resident evil,where things popping out shouting "boo!"is the scariest part and stops being scary very fast

Paranoia-Dead space,a mixture of shock and tension where you know there are no safe spots,the game know's what your thinking,the tension is always there but the shocks don't grow old

Dead Space is by far the better of the games. Siren Blood Curse is probably my other most favorite horror game of this generation, lots better than RE5 or Silent Hill Homecoming. I'd of also like to have tried Fatal Frame 4, but Nintendo won't publish it outside of Japan. Still though, RE5 was okay but not really a horror game at all. Homecoming was a lot scarier but not as well built of a game as RE5. Anyhow, looking forward to Silent Hill 8, that looks pretty good.

Horror games just aren't scary without being in the dark. RE5 wasn't scary until the gold edition with the hallways came out and things popped out. Doom 3, possibly the scariest game ever made, was set in the dark. It had a bit where you couldn't use the flashlight at the same time as your gun. You couldn't see what you were shooting at. Silent Hill. Limited view with things coming out of places. Resident Evil remake. Small hallways. More than just zombies; spiders, sharks, bats, etc.

Silent Hill's atmosphere and characters are what spook me. The controls can be difficult but that just adds to the drama. I also like Fatal Frame. Another spooky game.
