  • Sublime's the word.

  • this is such a beautiful song and he is a lethal singer

  • Who doesn't get a chill when the whistles come in around 2:30? Just lovely.

  • Never gets old. His voice has gotten even more timeless (which doesn't even seem possible listening to earlier recordings)

  • goosebumps,wow

  • Christy Moore sings a shortened version of it.

  • one of the loveliest sounds I know of is Paul Brady's voice.

  • Is it just me, or has this man got better with age. Amazing!

  • traditional Creole love song, which is commonly mistaken as being of Irish origin

  • You must hear John Cowan's recording of it in which Maura O'Connell sings the woman's portions of the dialogue. It is beautiful.

  • the coronas did a version of this song on today fm today...it is an absolutely stunning version.

  • best sang by a limerick girl siobhan o brien

  • @eimearmurnane - Naw, Sorry I think "The Lakes" is better sang by males... Women sing The green fields of Canada better

  • @compaverick Not necessary. Have you ever listened to Labgraal's version? I don't know if it's on youtube... if not, I will upload it soon...

  • best sang by a limerick woman siobhain o brien

  • love you paul brady... hope we can work together again sometime... brilliant song... gorgeous...

  • thanks for the clarification-being french/irish i really like this song!

  • like the flutes!-enjoyed it-thanks for posting!

  • @rainharper62 Those flutes are whistles actually. Not trying to be a smart-arse, honest. Just listen again. What a song and what a singer...!

  • truly amazing nothing else to say

  • this is actually one of the few songs i would ever consider singing in front of a crowd

  • @tvap1122

    Its like song for ireland

  • @tvap1122

Its like song for ireland by Mary Black or Galway by Deloris Keane

  • try listening to the Hot House Flowers version of this it is on the Bringing it all back home compilation It is exceptional it is also rare it has never been uploaded to you tube

  • @petebinalabam - Just uploaded it to my channel there Lad.. Enjoy Folks. And Favorite Me. Slan

  • @petebinalabam Watch his version in the 70s live it is how it should be sung cheers

  • @quintybuddy Yes .. I think 70s version is better and more melodiously subtle..remember hearing him in 60s!

  • @petebinalabam

why would you want to upload ? its rubbish

  • Great song and story. Does anyone know where it came from?

  • @liosalan

Great rendition of an old Irish ballad - some say the Scottish version is "Jock o' Hazeldene". Allegedly, about an Irish immigrant, who ran of with a Creole Indian woman.

  • What's your problem buddy? Being American you are perfectly entitled to have a king sized chip on your shoulder, So consider this..... There are two types of people in the world 1) Those who are Irish, and 2) Those who really wish they were Irish!! White niggers? Possibly because they were forced to build your country into what it is. Get a grip!!

  • not very nice man in person

  • @nappypant whys that... whats important is his art, and at that hes a national treasure.... for me

  • @mcoli2720 . i know, i really like his music, but u cant deny that it isnt great wen someone u really admire turns out to be a total jerk

  • @nappypant So come onnappypants spill the beans, what could have this man done on you for you to see him as a jerk....

  • Oggy Stoop

FANTASTIC! AMAZING SUBLIME - READING THE OTHER POSTS ... MANY OF US HAVE ACTED LIKE JERKS BEFORE - I DONT KNOW TO WHAT THIS POST IS REFERING BUT THE TALENT OF THE MAN IS UNQUESTIONABLE - HE IS A FOLK LEGEND

  • amazing ...

  • One of the most beautiful songs ever written...one of my favorites.

  • love the whistles...

  • whistles make this version ..just brilliant!

  • Have to disagree about the perfection of the whistles - Davy Spillane on uillean pipes would've done it for me. Whistles not bad, pipes better (best), IMHO. Still, I've loved Paul's music from the first time I heard him in the 70s and it's fantastic to hear an updated version of this beautiful song.

  • Paul, you are sounding better than ever. The whistles are the final perfecting touch ! Nice arrangement. Love your music !

  • one of my favourite songs, your in fine voice, wecome back

  • Great! This song contains what must rate amongst the greatest "pick-up "lines ever---- If it wasn't for the alligators, I'd sleep out in the wood!!

  • @KyranGeraghty

you idiot did you not know that the irish were known at the time this song was written as the white niggers it was written before the war of independence in america listen to it properly you fool

  • Great song

  • Sublime. What an artist!
