try listening to the Hot House Flowers version of this it is on the Bringing it all back home compilation It is exceptional it is also rare it has never been uploaded to you tube
Great rendition of an old Irish ballad - some say the Scottish version is "Jock o' Hazeldene". Allegedly, about an Irish immigrant, who ran of with a Creole Indian woman.
What's your problem buddy? Being American you are perfectly entitled to have a king sized chip on your shoulder, So consider this..... There are two types of people in the world 1) Those who are Irish, and 2) Those who really wish they were Irish!! White niggers? Possibly because they were forced to build your country into what it is. Get a grip!!
@MultiGeraghty I have no problem its just that to describe (If it wasn't for the alligators, I'd sleep out in the wood!! ) as the best pick up line ever shows he does not know how the Irish were treated in the south by the wasps by the way im irish but i know our history in the confed which is more than u do
FANTASTIC! AMAZING SUBLIME - READING THE OTHER POSTS ... MANY OF US HAVE ACTED LIKE JERKS BEFORE - I DONT KNOW TO WHAT THIS POST IS REFERING BUT THE TALENT OF THE MAN IS UNQUESTIONABLE - HE IS A FOLK LEGEND
Have to disagree about the perfection of the whistles - Davy Spillane on uillean pipes would've done it for me. Whistles not bad, pipes better (best), IMHO. Still, I've loved Paul's music from the first time I heard him in the 70s and it's fantastic to hear an updated version of this beautiful song.
you idiot did you not know that the irish were known at the time this song was written as the white niggers it was written before the war of independence in america listen to it properly you fool
Sublime's the word.

Never gets old. His voice has gotten even more timeless (which doesn't even seem possible listening to earlier recordings)

traditional Creole love song, which is commonly mistaken as being of Irish origin
kajunmoon 1 year ago
You must hear John Cowan's recording of it in which Maura O'Connell sings the woman's portions of the dialogue. It is beautiful.
