I am sure this footage is real. However I feel confident that they shot footage of 10-20 other people where the technique failed, and you won't see that.

As much as I would really like to believe alot of Derren's performances are not staged, it can be seen from many of the actors ( the bad ones ) that it is indeed an act, for their behaviour, including the things they say in their post-event interviews are incredibly fake.
it's the same thing with the "hypnotic handshake". The mind, while in state of shock, tries to think of something to do, not to fall. while the mind thinks of something (in a matter of half a second, or so), the hypnotizer suggests something, and the mind obeys it. in this case, being stuck. in others cases, sleep, etc...
that's my explanation for it, don't know for sure...
I'm sorry but my feet are no going to be stuck in the middle of street just because someone surprises me and says "look are me" and then says "STUCK'. That just would not happen to me.

#1 - Look at the silver/grey car. It starts pulling away while they're still on the crossing the angle changes and the car doesn't move until he's gone.
#2 - He would never risk it on a pedestrian crossing - it's too dangerous.
@emmaemme I think it rolls forward a few feet and then stops again. Just before the angle changes, it looks like the car starts slowing down, to me anyways. It is very possible that this was somehow staged, either with the drivers or the women, but not for that reason.
I don't think it's a scam. But rather that they try it on several people on several locations and only show the ones that do work.
I've seen him fail on some things though. Like when he tries to pay different salesmen with blank pieces of paper. Works when he buys jewelry, but i doesn't when he tryes to buy a hotdog.

Have you ever walked up to a "Push" door and tried to pull it? For a split second youre conscious mind asks your unconscious: "What the Hell is going on". In this state your brain is searching for a suggestion. In this case the womans walking pattern was interrupted by Derren walking into her and he was faster to give her a suggestion than her unconscious so she got stuck. Hope that helps

As much as I would really like to believe alot of Derren's performances are not staged, it can be seen from many of the actors ( the bad ones ) that it is indeed an act, for their behaviour, including the things they say in their post-event interviews are incredibly fake.

it's the same thing with the "hypnotic handshake". The mind, while in state of shock, tries to think of something to do, not to fall. while the mind thinks of something (in a matter of half a second, or so), the hypnotizer suggests something, and the mind obeys it. in this case, being stuck. in others cases, sleep, etc...
that's my explanation for it, don't know for sure...

#1 - Look at the silver/grey car. It starts pulling away while they're still on the crossing the angle changes and the car doesn't move until he's gone.
#2 - He would never risk it on a pedestrian crossing - it's too dangerous.

@emmaemme I think it rolls forward a few feet and then stops again. Just before the angle changes, it looks like the car starts slowing down, to me anyways. It is very possible that this was somehow staged, either with the drivers or the women, but not for that reason.

I don't think it's a scam. But rather that they try it on several people on several locations and only show the ones that do work.
I've seen him fail on some things though. Like when he tries to pay different salesmen with blank pieces of paper. Works when he buys jewelry, but i doesn't when he tryes to buy a hotdog.

It's not that I can't believe in things like that but the way it is working so flawless and easy in many of his videos just smells a bit like a scam to me with lots of actors. Just too much in my book. I guess his success is a good mixture of real stuff and scams to flesh it out.

@DocHackenbush You should see his liveshow Enigma. If that is a scam as well he had to have the whole audience in on it since he doesn't really choose certain people to join him on stage. He just throws out frisbies randomly. Check it out, it's an awesome show!

@seleonikios Hahah yeah that would be an easy explanation, but what this really is is a pattern interrupt.
Have you ever walked up to a "Push" door and tried to pull it? For a split second youre conscious mind asks your unconscious: "What the Hell is going on". In this state your brain is searching for a suggestion. In this case the womans walking pattern was interrupted by Derren walking into her and he was faster to give her a suggestion than her unconscious so she got stuck. Hope that helps

@ThaiQry Nice explanation :) by the way I knew this theory, it's the most convenient explanation for the just 2-3 confused seconds when you try to pull a "push" door..! But for an adult human being who has stuck in the midlle of a road for about 1' and asks for help just to keep walking and looking the cars passing near and all these just becaus suddenly someone told her to stuck, I think it's not the right explanation..!
