Saw them live several times in the 70`s including the Reading festivals 1974 & 1975 and at the Civic hall St Albans in `75. I have just started to buy the lost albums although I do have the first two. Gary Holton - top front man and excellent band. Sorely missed.

I had heard of these guys thanks to reading Melody Maker back in the 1970's, but I can't remember any of their records every getting released here in the states, so I hadn't been able to listen to them until now. This is a cool song. It's kinda right in the middle between Slade and Mott the Hoople. Plus the guitarist with the black Les Paul reminds me of the guitarist in Boomtown Rats.

Let's face it, the 1970's were the best.

I saw HMK five times in 70s....everyone a classic. Saw the (new) HMK at Skegness last week (Jan 2011) they rock.....recommend you check them out. God bless the Kids

@denisedye1 Yep, was lucky enough to see them a few times, he was indeed an amazing showman :) There was also a Norfolk band around at the same time called Zorro who did a few HMK covers, and saw them at Camden Music Machine way back in the day, and Gary came on and did a couple of songs with them~their frontman was called Dave Smith, he was like a blonde version of Gary! (2 of Zorro later went on to join Splodgenessabounds). Ah the 70's ... :)

I am a year 67 and have missed no result from "Disco" with the presenter Ilya Richter in the German television broadcasting station ZDF. Just yesterday afternoon from 16:35 till 17:20 there ran in the German digital television broadcasting station "ZDF-theatrical canal" a repetition this "Disco" result with "Delirious" from the Heavy Metal kids, into the bargain Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Graham Bonnet and Uriah Heep. This was still a music!!!! Keep on rockin' from Germany!!!

I would say they're between heavy metal and glam rock if that makes sense.

They weren't considered a punk band at all, they had been around since at least 72 well before punk. They were considered a heavy rock band. Interestingly, when they started, the term 'heavy metal' term wasn't widely used ie. before Maiden etc..all bands like this were called heavy rock. They do look more punk in this video...probably influenced by the punk look around in 77. Kind of an English Ndw York Dolls really.

But when you get into it with hardcore Sabbath fans....sheesh. Since this vid is from when? 1977? 78? They were probably influenced by the new punk scene.

Gary had had a heart attack previously and a few years later died of drugs & alchohol abuse.

I loved Gary Holten. Used to watch them at the Music Machine in London in the 70's. Those were the days!!! Brilliant!

His experience of this was added to his character "Wayne" in Auf Weirdesehen Pet when he was in Germany, saying, "I' signed a few autographs for a few birds the other day, didn't jump em though, I wouldn't want to take advantage of Ronny's good name!"

"Delirious" is one of the best punk rock songs ever written, without question.

Gary Holton was one of the best (if not the best) British rock band frontmen ever...WAY ahead of his time & a brilliant actor.

The Sex Pistols admit to ripping this band off wholesale.

Three facts...yet who has heard of this seminal band? Not many. A lesson learned. Popularity means NOTHING. This band destroyed like no other. RIP Gary Holton.

The singer is Gary Holton, undoubtedly the best frontman in Britain at the time & also one of Britain's best loved actors for his appearance in a tv series called "Auf Wiedersehen Pet". John Lydon of the Sex Pistols is said to have told Holton "How does it feel to have been ripped off?", which is a tacit admission that Lydon basically ripped off Holton. In other words, the Heavy Metal Kids were playing punk BEFORE the Sex Pistols. Holton was a one off.
