  • I don't see the issue with their fares. They are a for profit company, and can charge as much as they want. If people have an issue with it, they shouldn't ride. No riders means they will either quit running or lower prices. As long as they have enough people paying what they charge, they can keep charging it. It is called supply and demand. I don't see how that is discriminatory. If there is a need for better busing near you, start your own company and make some money at it.

  • @v12tommy HJ does well because although their fares are high, their market is an elite Manhattan clientele. Bottom line is the company wants to keep poorer ppl off the buses with their fares and policies forbidding travel within the island. I'd love to start my own company. Long Island is quite underserved by longer distance coach bus services when compared to New Jersey and the Hudson Valley.

  • @PinePowerLI as a for profit company, if they want to market to an elite clientele, there is no reason they can't. I don't see how that would be in an effort to keep poorer people off their buses. There is nothing that would keep a poorer person from riding their buses from Manhattan to the hamptons as long as they pay the fare. Plus at $30, I would hardly consider it "elite".

    the fact that every service has a price - the more complex and resource-taking the service, the higher price!

  • When you're buying a ticket for the Jitney you're buying a safe, comfortable trip,

    good service and the ability to know in advance (if you made a reservation a week or two prior the trip)

    that you are certainly taking a particular bus and YOU are arriving in a PARTICULAR TIME in the city at the

    nearest point to the location you need to be!

  • Have you ever been on the Jitney? Have you notices that they provide service that few other companies do provide? They have attendants on board who are serving refreshments. Reservations is also a very good thing. As you said yourself - you would not like to ride a jam packed train(or a bus - it is absolutely the same).

  • Hmmm, there is something called a train, there is also suffolk transit, that services all of suffolk county, is owned and operated by hampton jitney, and is much cheaper. Hampton Jitney has always run to and from the city since it was first created way way back, it hasn't changed in 35 years, the word 'Hampton' being the key word, it isn't the nassau jitney. It's a free market, start your own bus company.

  • How come Short Line can charge a lower fare for a greater distance for Woodbury Common?

    It's 42 dollars round trip, cheaper than HJ (53USD) between NYC and the South Fork. Or the 26 dollars round trip that Coach USA charges between NYC and Bear Mountain State Park?

    Bottom line is HJ is one of the most expensive motorcoach operations in our area. If Coach USA was running things fares would be lower. HJ doesn't even start at PABT!

  • i'm a driver at hampton jitney and everything you said is bs all types of people ride the jitney not jus rich people maybe you can't afford the fare no direspect but don't down us. and just like every other company our fares went up cause of fuel prices but like i said we for everybody weather you on welfare or your rich and i'm not saying that cause i work there.

  • Their fares are priced to keep lower income people off the buses. Fuel prices are high, but other companies like Coach USA arent charging as much per mile as you guys are.

    And again why not allow folks to travel between Ronkonkoma and the East End for a lower fare? If Coach USA ran things fares would be zone based, a much fairer system.

    Carefree Bus Tours has historical moment because they offer cheap than Academy Bus in New Jersey's Bloomfield, Arlington and Lyndhurst to NYC.

  • I hate to say it man but if we do that these areas would be ruined by people going there.The Hamptons have and always been a summer destination for New Yorkers. Most people from LI tend to stay in West Hampton and Hampton Bays.Leave the jitney alone dude its a company thats doing well.

  • reservation for a seat on the regular bus non ambassodor ther is no charge if you dnt show

    during summer and weekends make a resavation so you have a seat prehaps.yeah but the train is unreliable and as for a cab probley looking at a 100 dollers so 30 bucks is high but it's not that bad.take a cab would be more from montauk to easthampton 50-60 bucks

    now thats a robbery.

  • The train isn't subject to the terrible traffic conditions. HJ buses have to sit on CR39 and Montauk highway like all the other traffic. If the LIRR got more reliable equipment and improved schedules they'd put HJ out of business. Suffolk County is in the process of getting more services from the MTA, and hopefully that will also mean more LIRR service on the east end. The LIRR is a bargain compared to HJ, thats why the Montauk trains are jam packed on weekends.

    and see what is relay going on.One they no it's busy and More are larger busses.Perhaps

    they are keeping the money they are a greedy

    sneaky company.
