There are a couple reasons the 80's rocked, you had to pay for your music, Reagan's evil crap inspired a lot of good music, and Michael Jackson inspired a lot of talented people to work hard and create a lot of great stuff!
@OtomoTenzi Totally agree. A great diversity of sound, but the majority of it actually enjoyable. Post-punk, new wave, synthpop. It was a decade of great music. The 00's are just full of lyrically challenged teen rockers and rappers who don't know their own shoe size.
The music producers today all have their heads stuck somehere up their asses, because they seem to have completely lost sight of what STYLE and ORIGINALITY was all about.
The musicians back in the 80's not only looked great, but the lyrics in their songs actually carried some meaning in them.
In other words, 80's music had way more MASS APPEAL.
If the music of today had that same kind of profound effect on us, then we wouldn't be reaching back for our 80's collections all the time!
@OtomoTenzi Jesus chill out. The majority of stuff nowadays is crap but it's like that every decade. In 20-30 years from now people will only remember the good songs from this decade. The same way we only remember the good songs from 80s 70s etc.
i love new wave very much, the european music from 80s and early 90s is best music in world. Modern commercial music is too repetitive and lost, very lost, the best inspiring music is from 80s as all tunes are original and different.
@mrsiborg No, just some of them weren't well known. Fiat Lux never had a major hit. Dear Enemy were a one-hit wonder in Australia, Seona Dancing (with Ricky Gervais as lead singer) only became a hit in the Phillipines, B-Movie were never huge, A Method Of Danse were extremely obscure, Cetu Javu and Exotic birds broke out on the synthpop scene way too late to make massive impact, Silent Running were rejected for copying Simple Minds and both The Big Supreme and Common Bond were short-lived bands

Thanks for the montage, I love 80's music. Haven't heard of some of those bands though, I must have slept through that part of the 80's :P
