  • This whole album is greatness.. and now every Christmas I think of this song.

  • Thank God It´s Christmas! And we love SPARKS! /Annsofie & Christoffer

  • SAW THEMAT THE KABUKI IN S.F IN ABOUT 79...OUTSTANDING..SYNTHESIZER AND VOCALS...SO CREATIVE A TRULY GREAT SHOW AND ALBUMS NEXT BEST THING TO LIVE!!

  • Sheer class.

  • Under the radar, beating the lamestream. For decades!!!

  • My favourite ever Sparks song. I bought the album in '74 for 'This Town...' and when I got to this track I wondered why this wasn't the single.

  • When did Adrian pass on?

  • Guitar - Adrian Fisher (RiP)

  • I love this song.

  • I like how he pronounces Christmas ka-rees-mas

  • The more I listen to this song the more I think it's one of their best ever. It sticks with me and parts of it pop into my head throughout the day as I'm doing other things.

  • I want to ask those douchbacks @ pitchfork - where is "Kimono my house" in their elite 70's list !

  • Lol, Reverend. I knew about the Leo Sayer one, but hadn't heard this bridge similarity yet. PS: caught these guys in H-wood in 72...definitely contrary to the prevailing folk/country/rock of the time.

  • What a screamer of a song! The opening 35 seconds are pure rock. Maels at thier best!

  • For years, I've been looking for a song from which The Police could have stolen the bridge of 'Every Breath You Take', and now I've found it! You can do a medley of 'Stand By Me', 'More Than I Can Say', and 'Thank God It's Not Christmas' in the style of 'EBYT', never pay Sting a dime, and still sound like you're playing the 1983 massive hit single from the 'Synchronicity' LP.

  • @reverendflash I never made the connection between the Police and Sparks, but it's definitely there. Great catch, man. Sparks > The Police.

  • @reverendflash Definitely !

  • phrasing recalls madeline kahn's dietrich, with more balls

  • spent many a christmas in the late 90's early 2000's stoned on homegrown listening to this great song and album.

  • Trés bons souvenirs de cette époque !

  • I purchased this album @ a "Playback" in Merrillville, Indiana when it was first released. Fantastic memories!!!!!

  • My vinyl may be scratched after so many plays, but thank God we have You Tube too relive and enjoy one of Sparks greatest opera's

  • A classic song from a truly great band

  • i need some hasta manana after this.

  • @shaftsbury94 lol!.. u mixed Abba and the Sparks too??

  • ...If this were Seine

    We'd B very suave....

Gosh, Sparks' lyrics R always so "francophile" weird!...

  • You know when you sing something in the car and make believe you are replacing the lead singer .... and you have lived with the song for seemingly ever throughout your life ... well this is my song .... if you want a night off Russell, I'll do this one for you and then catch up with you later at bedtime xx

  • Parenthetical Girls did a great cover of this song, really made it their own. Not sure which one I like more.

  • Loooooooooooooooooooooove.

  • I would honestly say that Sparks are the greatest American band of all time.. and I'm a huge Flaming Lips/Interpol/Doors/Eels/My Morning Jacket etc etc fan

  • this is the same band from the fright night soundtrack?? wtf?

  • One of the best songs ever conceived, though I never considered it a seasonal/holiday song.........

  • if i had to choose only 5 albums to listen to this would be one of them

  • "If this were the Seine we'd be very suave, but it's just the rain washing down the boulevard"

    love that line

  • Is Ron still writing new material?

  • Ron never stops writing new material. I suspect you have a lot of catching up to do!

  • This album is a rare jewel I thank the gods I was lucky enough to find it.

  • THIS IS GREAT SONGS. I HAVE IT IN MY MOBIL PHONE!! Best wishes from Russia. Yuriy

  • Compare this to what you get today and you'll probably say: Ioved it but did not realize ???

    Too late too little!

  • I was eleven when I bought this album all the hippies in the record store were looking down at me and I was a bit scared. I've spent so many Xmas with that song since then (althrough my punk years, my rap years, my house years, my old years hahaha)

  • @Pythr

Hahaha!! LOL It was too geekie in the 70 ties sneaking out with a Sparks album. So recognisable :D

  • @Pythr i was 11 too!! and it was in Sweden..living in a small town north or Gothenburg..and i was saving up my week allowance for 2 months to be able to buy it..in the meanwhile running accross the street to the local shoppingmall record shop window and looking at the LP cover in the window EVERY SINGLE DAY..sometimes 3 times a day..going to school, coming home from school..and in the evening after having done my home work. This LP occupied my mind 24/7.

  • @reallyfullofmyself Do it! All good things are worth waiting for. What a treat of an album. Love these guys!
