  • The killers did good, I mean its not like this of course, because its a COVER not suposed to sound exactly like the original its supposed to be their version, and it is good, this is better but dont say The killers suck, because they dont, dont be so small minded.

  • WHO THE FUCK IS THE KILLERS?????????? Joy Division is a band completely of their own and way ahead of their time having their own world so to speak....... a cover is just a cover and when it comes to other bands covering Joy Division song, I just don't fucking care!!! fuck the covers coz every Joy Division song is way way more potent so just stick to the original and throw away the crappy cover versions!!! cheers!!! Long Live Joy Division!!!!

  • Don't compare The Killers version with this. Its just a tribute of them. They didnt try to be as good as the original version because its just impossible for anybody to do it.

  • Great song. Painful.

  • I love the original version but I don't think The Killers did a bad job at all.

I am dying to know what this song is about. Love the second verse. Visual imagery overload

  • what your name of the song of comercial??

  • ouu yeah!

  • I reccomend anyone who likes this band should watch Control

  • @MetalDrummer776 No watch the JOY DIVISION Documentary.

  • god damn these ads.

  • I just found myself randomly dancing in my underwear. God bless you Joy Division.

  • fuck jimi hendrix, peter hook is a GOD

  • @m1ssychelsy hell yeah!!!

  • @m1ssychelsy Really dude, I wasnt aware hating hendrix was cool now.

  • The Killers version is flat. There's nothing interesting to it. The original makes you sit up and take notice. The Killers don't.

  • "Welcome, my friend, to the show that never ends." Ladies and gentlemen, Joy Division.

  • So now nobody can touch this song ? It's not holy grail, chill , everybody can do a cover of it and it's their personal problem how bad it will become. No need to shit on anybody. But shure it's a better version, just because it's the original one, and nothing can beat that.

  • the killers ARE NOT shit, but joy division are better,of course.

  • Killers version is like a sex with condom. You may enjoy it but you know there is something far better.

  • for exeterkered, he said what he said because fans of older music who typically dont like the polished, unemotive bullshit put out on a daily basis in america are sick of typing shadowplay and seeing the killers, sick of hearing people mention them when referencing this song, its bullshit, theyre a mediocre alt-rock band who are thrown in with legends,he/she may be elitest but he/she also has fucking pride in beautiful, historic music, i like the killers but fuck them for shadowplay straight up.

  • Jesus lost his virginity to this song.

  • just class!!..pure class!..

  • I wonder if anyone else in the wolrd hung themself at age 23 in the 80s, R.I.P. Ian Curtis

  • second best song of the album

  • i found out when going on vacation, this song is perfect when travelling on the high-way *----*

    true story

  • I hate it when I type in Shadowplay the first listing comes up as The Killers. :(

  • Who the fuck are The Killers and why is everyone talking about them?

    This song is fucking awesome.

    Shut up and enjoy it.

  • I miss the words to describe how much i love this song...

  • cant we just say both versions are good?

  • grat song!

  • i think the killers version and joy division posses the song very interestingly in their own distinctive way

  • was this not called new wave, or dark wave? Well maybe it's time for new dark wave.....; )

  • @Haxe1968 I just call it Joy Division... ;)

  • @slimboyfathead yes that's it....and just keep listening to them......

  • @slimboyfathead you're right

  • Joy Division are post-punk and The Killers are guitar pop, therefore you can't compare them. That's like saying the conservative party is better or worse than foreplay.

  • @exeterkered Yes, I am a teenager, and yes I think the first one iI heard is "better."

This is the first one I heard.

  • god, i love his voice...

  • That riff at 0:33 would make me moist if I had a vagina, anymore.

  • HEY! The Killers version is good!

  • Thirty one years and this music still lives. R.I.P. Ian.

  • this is music

  • whoa! why so mean!?

Joy Division and The Killers are both very good bands. Yes, most people would choose Joy Division over The Killers, as would I but both versions of Shadowplay are amazing because both have different styles so yeah there is no need to be rude!

  • The best moments. We know Joy Division. And you are so right pearlbastards don't mess with this.

  • @MrTCreeps ...well their name is the killers, so would make sense they MURDERED it hahahahaha!...lame joke i know...xD

  • @xDeadMisfitsx Yeah finally someone made this joke.

  • i CAN'T STAND the killers cover of this song and the worst is arcade fire's cover of new order's age of consent. i understand that these newer bands want to pay homage or tribute to JD n NO but U CAN'T MESS WITH "SHADOWPLAY!!!" it is one of if not THE JD's MASTERPIECE!!!

  • @pearlbastards 1. dont listen to it then 2. just be glad the bands have good taste in music

  • @pearlbastards I enjoy The Killers and I enjoy that remake...I haven't heard Arcade Fire's version but considering they're probably the most brilliant band of the 2000s I have high hopes for that cover.

  • The Killers version was alright, OK.

But the original is a madman bent on destruction.

  • love joy division

  • JOY DIVISION KILL THE KILLERS.. NO COMPARISON..... (who are the killers anyway) lol

  • I absolutely adore this album. I was lucky enough to find the CD the other day :)

  • I fail to see how the killers are "shit" unless you mean "The shit"

  • @dynastyxl Let's weigh "Are we human or are we dancer" whined by a camp Mor(m)on in a stupid jacket up with the real menace Ian Curtis gives the line "I let them use you for their own ends". The Killers started out wanting to be a blander version of Interpol with more glitz, then decided to be a camp Springsteen tribute then just morphed into amorphous plastic pop slime oozing from a radio near you. Ian wouldn't just be spinning in his grave, he'd be flailing and staring.

  • @Jaaaaam Still waiting for you to weigh "Human"... what's that? You're busy making untrue assumptions about a genuinely good band because they covered a song you like? What was I expecting...

  • @Jaaaaam I know this is an old comment, but seriously, wtf? While that was a very well written comment, there's not much truth to it. The only Killers song I ever hear on the radio is 'When You Were Young'. They're not "mainstream," and they've not gotten nearly as much recognition as people would like to think. They've got an independent sound, some of it is very 80's, some of it is pop, some rock, even country in some songs. You can't just stick them in one genre because you heard one cover.

  • @overcastx3 I don't care if they're mainstream or not. New Order sold at least six million of Substance. Mainstream doesn't equal bad. Great pop is a thing to be cherished. The problem isn't that they're mainstream it's that they're not independent but "indie" in the same way as Snow Patrol. Slick, overproduced and devoid of soul. I checked them out before slagging them off and any band who can say "I've got soul but I'm not a soldier" with a straight face deserve zero respect.

  • @Jaaaaam I think it's funny that you pick out one line from a song and say they don't deserve your respect. "I took a shuttle on a shock-wave ride, where people on the pen pull the trigger for accolade I took a bullet, and I looked inside and running through my veins an American masquerade". Those are some of the lyrics to the song Sam's Town. That's devoid of soul? That's overproduced? Give me a break you moron.

  • a year has passed since i wrote it and and there are stil people sending me comments about my musical preferences..... :p it's kind of funny.....:D

  • I don't give a shit , I prefer the Kilers version. I'm not gonna lie just to appear more"musically purist" or whatever and suck up to Joy Divison. Yeah the Joy Division is cool , but in my opinion the Killers version tops it. My opinion , you don't like it , suck it :)

    peace

  • @spielme the killers did absolutely nothing to change the version, they just copied it,every single bit of it.

so what's so f*cking cool about it? It's a Joy Division song. Not their music, not their lyrics,NOT their talent.

  • @kowalskiToTheRescue if you actually do believe the killers didn't change the song at all, then you're obviously listening to a different one than I am. They changed it a lot, for the better in my opinion. Your inability to even consider this betrays your own close-mindedness

  • @kowalskiToTheRescue

Uhhh, no, their version was totally different. Sure, they kept the general motifs and hooks, but it had a very different feel. Can any version top the original? No, unless Johnny Cash rose from the grave and gave it the Hurt treatment, then maybe, but the Killers version brought a lot of new fans to JD that would have never have heard of them otherwise, and their version is not as terrible as some make it out to be. It is actually decent. JMHO

  • @chukmaty Good statement, but I honestly despise Cash's version of Hurt.

  • great anthem... one of my favourites from them

  • No need to insult people for thinking differently to yourself.

I admit, I /like/ the killers cover. I prefer this one but I won't lie, if I hadn't heard the cover I wouldn't have thought to seek out the original. So I'm glad they covered it.

  • Why are you guys insulting others intelligence for having an opinion different from your own? I like both Joy Division's and The Killers' version. The Killers were only doing a tribute to JV. The Killers didn't just decide to cover it either, they were asked by the directer of the movie for Ian. All The Killers try to do when covering a song is a tribute to the band/singer and to introduce older music like JV and New Order to the new generation who otherwise might not hear it.

  • I have to admit that I like the killers version too but it's nowhere near as awesome as this one is

  • intelligent defiance, unsurpassed and crucial.

  • is it about heroin, literally or in an offhand way...

    i fuckin love it

  • waiting for you

  • yeah meeeeeen!!

  • ¬¬

    you´re saying that

    the killers version sucks!!

  • You are clearly a non-thinking teenage idiot who thinks that every version you hear first is somehow "better". Joy Division's original is far more moving, evocative, and brilliant in its somberness. The Killers are complete morons who, through their lack of imagination and originality, totally raped and ruined a classic.

  • you are a bit excessive.. i only told you that in my opinion the killers' version is better and that doesn't make me idiot or non-thinking.... joy division is a great group and i never told that they aren't evocative or brilliant! you should calm down..!

  • @mary1370 the killers are shit

  • @LeonMan2 I agree to an extent. But I feel they did an homage and should get respected for that much.

  • @exeterkered

That was rather harsh towards The Killers lol, but yes I agree that the original version is ALWAYS the best.

  • @exeterkered very well stated

  • @exeterkered

I have to disagree, that is, I am an absolute Joy division/warsaw fanatic and yet can appreciate the Killers rendition of shadowplay. In fact, I was quite moved by it.

  • @exeterkered Good job. Spoken like a true teenager.

  • @exeterkered The Killers' version's a fine interpretation. Nothing compared to the original, but an interesting tribute in my opinion.

  • @exeterkered perhaps they should rename themselves, "The Song Killers".

  • @exeterkered and you clearly are an internet asshole who thinks that someone is close-minded because they like a cover. Music is subjective, stop being an elitist prick.

  • @exeterkered Everybody is entitled to their opinion.

  • @exeterkered Totally,agree.

  • @exeterkered You're a fucking prick, he can like whatever he wants to. You're the non thinking teenage scumfuck elitist.

  • jajaja a lot people hate you... but dont care....he is already dead!

  • Like bollocks it is, pedestrian at best.

  • @mary1370 Ha. ok.

  • @mary1370 Fail.

  • @mary1370 LOLOLOLOLOL

You have no buisness listening to music, ever.

  • @clancy2k calm down dude.... who do you think u are?:D are you saying that people who don't like the same music that you do shouldn't listen to music at all? or the ones that don't listen to joy division?

  • great and deep song
