  • for me this song turned the film from a very good movie into an outstanding one... fits perfectly

  • i almost play this song whenever it starts raining. suites it so much. :)

  • @ TheLchcfan

well thats really the point... but its not a bad one it only shows that genuis mind can change the world even if they have problem doing normal things like talking to other people

  • This music plays in my head when it rains outside...

  • people that say that this is stupid and uninspired and that it doesn't deserve and oscar really need to suck it up. How many orchestral soundtracks there are out there? And what's the sole goal of a soundtrack? It's to work with the movie, and this works perfectly. When people try to do something different everybody needs to criticize, I'm glad this won the oscar, it's a refreshment

  • The irony of this movie is that the creator of the world's largest social network had an antisocial behaviour.

  • this is one of the laziest and least inspired soundtracks to have won an academy award. I'm not saying it doesn't work in the movie, it does... but in the company of other soundtracks to have gotten the oscar, this is simply forgettable. Good to see this year's nominees are back with symphonic orchestrations.

  • Safe to say that Trent Reznor needs to quit NIN and do music for all David Fincher movies.

  • @JulianKodak Good music has nothing to do with complexity. Some of the best songs ever written are simple folk tunes. Plus, score has to do with how music is used in a film context, not how good it sounds on your ipod.

  • @Jonmad17 exactly, this song always reminds of the movie and a particular scene

  • I don't know why people keep debating whether this or Inception's soundtrack was better. They both pale in comparison to How to Train Your Dragon's soundtrack.

  • This won an oscar seriously???

  • @shabz4eva79 this is only one song, there are many others. and why not ?

  • @kraskata2012 come on the violin sounds stupid the piano is quite good but the inception soundtrack is way better

  • @shabz4eva79 to compare the two only shows your adolescence

  • @JulianKodak You realize that the score was made up of more than just this song, right?

  • The music from inception is better music on face value. But this simple piece enhanced the film and captured the emotions of the film better than inception thats why it won the oscar

  • This part of the movie makes Eduardo look like such a villain.

  • Its something about this beat that burns you. Its like your being scrutinized or something. Interrogated.

  • how he fuck did this win oscar and inception not, dont get me wrong this is beautiful but still :/

  • @zaiivonhest zimmer makes the same music for each and every movie. Totally boring.

  • @kraskata2012 oh does he really?? u dont have much of a musical ear do you? watched this /watch?v=gL5en8Y10OU?

  • @zaiivonhest well, i have my ears, whether they are musicial or not is entirely subjective. zimmer is good at manufacturing boring soundtracks.

  • It's actually one of the best film soundtracks I've ever heard, right up there with the stuff Prokofiev and Shostakovitch did for Eisenstein and Kozintsev respectively. If good music is just about "good themes" to you, then yeah, no surprise you'll prefer something like How to Train Your Dragon or Inception. But there's nothing remotely original about either of those soundtracks.

  • @ebertfan92 I'm not holding it against them, they're both good and work for the films they score, I'm just saying they don't do anything that hasn't been done a hundred times before. The TSN score is avant-garde and experimental. You may have listened to it, but I doubt you actually LISTENED to it.

  • Drive brought me here after the social network

  • My Prada's at the cleaners! Along with my hoodie and my 'fuck you' flip-flops

  • I <3 this song its soooo... wow

  • for me, this song is Creepy.......whatch it in the middle of a forest in a dark night, and youll see what im talking about LOL

  • I think the reason this won the oscar is because the essence of the movie perfectly, and there's a sense of haunting loneliness that (I think) is more difficult to capture. Though I still agree that HTTYD's score was amazing, I think that you have to give credit to how Reznor and Ross made this one so subtle and yet it still conveyed everything it needed to.

  • @NeebsLucas11 What about inceptions? one of the greatest soundtracks ever

  • i got chills and then went from 6 to 12

  • Inception or How to Train Your Dragon got robbed for the Oscar...

  • @chulo1996 Totally agreed

  • @chulo1996 If I had to pick, it'd definitely be "How to Train Your Dragon".

  • everybody go look at the song The Social Network by Luke Christopher who is a very talented rapper who used this theme song and rapped over it masterfully

  • DJ Billy made a sick remix with this called "Generations" check it out

  • this soundtrack was good and emotional.

But how could it have won the oscar over the inception soundtracks!?

  • Love this movie. The soundtrack adds great emotion!

  • This is in so many films..

  • "Forget about the chicken!!!"

  • [insert movie quote]

  • great

  • 225 people have no friends on facebook

  • I'M CEO, BITCH.

  • Pa mi lo más rescatable de ésta película es la música. También la promesa como actor del que representa a "Wardo", el resto...esperaba harto más. Me quedo con la idea de que la realidad en sí no daba para una película de tamaño presupuesto.

  • @Colossus747 Right to the point.

  • im 6ft5 ad theres two of me:)

  • Drive is the worst film i have ever seen haha fuckin shocking

  • mark runs 10 miles to get to his dorm room.

  • I never saw the movie. Don't intend on it either. I just love Nine Inch Nails. :D

  • @TheNightsMoon

Its a good movie actually. You should give it a chance.

  • I wish we had Jazz/hip-hip, ambiance music on the radio.

  • Forbidden Friendship is good. But this is dope. And movie soundtracks are also judged according to how they were used in that particular movie.

  • @mikecorleone49 Where did comparing this to Forbidden Friendship come from?

  • @inSpeKKter Check other comments

  • @mikecorleone49 Still don't see why.

  • @inSpeKKter that's what i was thinking... i was like huh?

  • It just caught up with me

  • I like to listen to this while I'm programming.

  • Forbidden Friendship should have won the oscar for best original score. This song is good but not as good as Forbidden Friendship.

  • @ShockHeed I agree with you! Have you guys from Oscar got ears at all?!! Forbidden Friendship is 100000000x better than this s***!!! >.<

  • Nice song! Facebook best spy in the world FBI/CIA says thanks :D

  • SORRY! My Prada's at the cleaners! Along with my hoodie and my fuck you flip-flops you PRETENTIOUS DOUCHEBAG.

  • All right, now please, explain me how it is possible, that this have won Oscar award for best music, when there was John Powell's "How to train your dragon" in same category? I don't understand it at all.

  • @RavingStorms Well that's simple...this is better so stop crying, what's done is done; btw that dragon movie is awful.

  • @BuriedAlive7x Yeah, that's makes sense... any arguments or just "it's better"? What is better in this umc-umc-umc-umc stuff?

  • @RavingStorms It won the Oscar award because the category was called

"Best Original Score"; and you know what, this was the most original.

  • @BuriedAlive7x In the category Best Original Score, the adjective "Original" means "an original work, as opposed to a copy." Not original as in "fresh, innovative."

  • @RavingStorms Quite frankly I did enjoy HTTYD's soundtrack more then Social Network as well, but the fact remains that Social Network's tracks had a more original sound-basis to its nature, and fit rather surprisingly with the film. In the end, it's a matter of opinion that wins the day.

It does not diminish my love for the Dragon soundtrack one bit though. Fantastic themes to be heard there! (:

  • @RavingStorms Also tron

  • Love the song and how there are so many quotes from the movie in the comments xD

  • "You better lawyer up asshole, cuz I'm not coming back for 30%... I'm coming back for EVERYTHING."

  • @xhackmasterx Cause*

  • @HerpaDerp999 stfu*

  • Every up has a down..

    Life is black and white..

But, there is an in between..

    It is known as success..

  • the king's speech is just about some stutterer who happened to be a king. It was boring. The Social Network at least was interesting and entertaining and had a complex story to tell... So all that what kings speech didnt have.

  • "I KNEW IT, I KNOW YOU DID IT, YOU PLANTED THAT STORY ABOUT THE CHICKEN"

  • People saying they came here from Drive, the songs only in the leaked version not in the theatrical :P

  • @3buddy good to know... thank you!!

  • trent reznor is a modern day beethoven

  • I'm still angry that Social Network did't won the award for best Director and Best Motion Picture. I mean The King's Speech is good but its nohting special, Colin Firth really deservead his oscar but not the whole movie. Its much more difficuilt to stage a movie about a guy who creates a website in such an excited way, than to make a movie like The King# Speech. Well I Guess the Content of The Social Network was not serious and poltical enough for the academy. What a petty.

  • i think the song was meant fit simultaneously with mark's thoughts...he though he created the website, he thought everyone was being assholes, he thought he was doing things the way they should be done...simple.

  • ok. im sorry to all the fans but i just gotta say how amazed i am that this was so loved in comparison the the other movies/scores that had been nominated.

  • SOCIAL NETWORK WAS ROBBED OF THE ACADEMY AWARD!!!!!!!!!! pisses me off when i think about it

  • Comment removed

  • i wish i thought of this tune on my piano . seems soo simple. but it takes someone with pure talent to come up with it.... more amazing tunes are still out there but no ones played it yet

  • @capdasejb I play the guitar and piano, and I can tell you that you kinda have that right, but then again. The melody it self, ISNT hard to come up with. Often it´s inspired from everyday things, and snippits of a song. But what makes Renzor a pure fucking genious in this is that he could get that arrangement, that SOUND out of those simple notes. That requires talent to imagine that sound, and perfect it. Creating that atmosphere is a very hard thing in music. And Renzor did a pretty good job!

  • God damn Kings speech won over This. HOW COULD IT!? I mean Kings speech was a ok film BUT COME ON it acted like a comedy to me, I understand the mesasge but I found (except Colin Firth) the actors to mumble alot. The Social Network on the other hand Is the next Citizen Kane.

  • @themegagamesgamer I totally agree. I feel that this movie was more of a message to the users of Facebook and how social networking really can be a good/evil thing. But what I think is funniest is if you ask a Facebook addict who Mark Zuckerburg is, they have no fucking clue. Pure irony.

  • @themegagamesgamer agree with kane comment but haven't seen king's speech so can't comment on that.

  • @TheWhole10Yrds

The King's Speech is amazing, I can assure you that :)

  • Why do Youtubers have such a desire to defend their own film music? Shut the hell up and expose yourself to new music. Maybe you'll like something someday that hasn't been on your Ipod for 5 years. Even further, you might begin to understand WHY you enjoy it.

  • This won. And this didnt: /watch?v=rY07_dX3F88&feature=related

  • @Heifsin85 That song followed a format. This song follows no format. That's reason enough.

  • Stunning!

  • Sorry but those messed violin things in the background (I think they're violins) Sound horrible and screechy DX

  • @XDKeni8149 that's kind of the point. It creates tension, and adds a lot to the movie in my opinion

  • DRIVE... i new this sounded familiar

  • HAHAHA! gramatic XD

  • Love this. Makes me think about life...

  • And they say Dubstep sounds bad.-.-

  • @SwitchVBlade People who think Dubstep sounds bad hate it because there is a gigantic wave of kids being exposed to electronic music for the first time. They then buy an MPC, press a few pads, go on their softwares for a few minutes and follow a formula and believe they've made a piece of music. That is then popularized to the point of good, thoughtful electronic music being unknown. Thus, the referred-to dubstep is bad. However, Trent Reznor's beauty, even if it isn't pleasing, is expansion.

  • okay did anybody else hear this song in the diner scene from drive?

  • This song popped up in Drive and I got so distracted by it I missed the whole scene

  • @kenijoelove96 me too ... i was like, they can use that ?!? XD

  • @kenijoelove96

This song did not popup during Drive..it popped up in the pirated non release version..it is absent in the theatrical release however I also recognized it instantly.

  • @kenijoelove96 fucking pirate scum

  • Reminds me of 2 Ghosts I.

  • I don't get it. Why this music get Oscar prize? There is better music in TRON and Inception...

  • @Konrad19april I don't think the oscar goes to best sound, its awarded to best sound used in a motion picture so i think its based on the song setting the scene for the audience more than just judging it on youtube

  • @GovindBhogal

    Hm... You're right.

  • @GovindBhogal

False, because Time from Inception fit better in its scene than this did.

  • @MagnusRulerHardt

So it's stupid that this won the Oscar.

  • @Konrad19april i totally agree

  • @Konrad19april

in changes the whole perception of the movie, it is something never heard and done in this form before, it's new, it's intense, it's innovation.

And here you are questioning why innovation gets an oscar and keep pleading for tradition.

  • @sarakaster

"it's new, it's intense, it's innovation" hahahah! Good joke bro, good joke. Music like that born 30 maybe 20 years ago... Daft Punk mixed electro music with symphony, mixed it very good - this is something new.

  • @Konrad19april

well, that was not my point...NIN themselves are making that kind of instrumantal music for over 30 years now - BUT taking this kind of music an make it a crucial part of a huge movie, that's what's new. That's what i ment.

Yes, Inception has some brilliant orchestral score, but brilliant orchestramusic we got the last 60 years...

It's the combination that makes the movie what it is.

  • @sarakaster

Inception - ok, soundtrack is preety good, but its boring when you hear Zimmer again and again.

But, why Daft Punk wasn't even nominated (!) for TRON soundtrack? The movie sucks, but theyre music is better then music from Social Network.

  • @Konrad19april

well first you bring in inception, now you say it's boring...

I would have found it great of Daft Punk would have been nominated too.

All I WAS SAYING is that I find any credits for innovation in OST at the oscars a good thing and therefore Trents soundtrack more than deserved it.

If you can't feel or realize what power this strong soundtrack has on the movie, well you should probably stick to Hans Zimmer, should you...

  • @sarakaster

Em... I have problem with understand You because You use strange gramatic... Anyway:

Check the OST of Tron. And You will be known why it's better music then this.

And I'm shouldn't stick too HZ only because I think that SN OST is worse then Daft Punk music.

  • @Konrad19april

I think people here should vote which gramatic is worse, yours or mine ;)

I know the OST of Tron, still i go with Trent...it's called taste and as all people know, it's all a matter of taste...

  • @sarakaster shut up

  • @ben20012004

    haha, how cute.

    what are you 12?

  • @Konrad19april Please don't be an elitist. I doubt Mr. Reznor cares about pleasing an audience at all anymore. It's popularized expansion; you should be thankful. It's kind of like how Carlin stopped trying to be funny in his later years and focused on the meaning of his words, but still remained naturally humorous.

  • What made this movie even more freaking awesome.

  • like ;)

  • HOW DID INCEPTION LOSE TO THIS!1!1!1!1!1!1

  • @clubpenguinsux1 Inception should be movie of the year, I agree, but think about how one in two people gave a facebook...... this movie = instant success, not to mention it was actually good

    o__o

  • @cosmotiggy This is an alright movie, and inception is better, but I was talking about the soundtrack. Inception soundtrack is 10x as good as this.

  • yea this song was pretty good in drive as well as tsn

  • am i the only one who was on Mark Zuckerburgs side in this film?

    Advertising isnt cool god damit!

  • @sawyerfreddie Nah. A lot of people see Mark Zuckerburg's side in the creation of the Facebook. What Zuckerburg did to Savereign was completely legal. Savereign just made a dumb choice, just as Zuckerburg said he did. As for stealing Harvard.edu matching site idea from the Winklevei, Zuckerburg is correct in what he says about those three not being able to create the Facebook, as they do not have the proper ability to do so.

  • @sawyerfreddie i have to say you wasnt the only one on his side,,

    his lawers was to haha

  • @sawyerfreddie your not alone. if some one has the innitiative to go out and change the world, he should do it. with or without help.

  • i would of done the same and blagged eduardo lmao

  • its raining out side :))))))

  • i like that this song is also in drive

  • Comment removed

  • i have the weirdest boner right now...

  • the social network was really gud :]

  • I only love the first half/beginning of this song, after that, it gets a little weird, heavy and hard to handle...

Does anyone else find that they are very sensitive to music? This one can put me into strange places I think.

  • Sounds like it should be in a horror movie.

  • I heard this watching "Drive" and couldn't place it. I knew it was from another really good recent movie!

  • @davegrohlsbeeatch I don't think this was in Drive. That was still a great movie though

  • @Ajapam34 uh, this definitely was in "Drive". it's where they're at the girl's work sitting down at the table talking

  • @markuskentwood its only in the bootleg version.

  • I like Atticus Ross' scores, especially in the Book of Eli

  • I still think How to Train Your Dragon should have swiped everyone away for the soundtrack Oscar.

  • @Gooseworx Agreed, Resnor and Ross as well as Zimmer (who is actually my favorite composer) did fantastic jobs on all their soundtracks. But John Powell really blew me away, every single piece in that soundtrack was majestic, beautiful, and sometimes heartbreaking. The most outstanding of all would be Forbidden Friendship, which beautifully fleshed out the character development between the boy and beast. That score told a story, and a damn beautiful one at that.

  • This is an awesome soundtrack, but i dont think it deserved to beat the How To Train Your Dragon one.

  • @hosshouhanon4real Tron Legacy was better than both and it didn't even get nominated

  • @fistacuff56 Hmm well i didn't really like Tron Legacy...and the critics didn't really either so i guess that's why it didn't get nominated. On Rotten Tomatoes, The Social Network got a 96% rating, HTTYD got a 98% rating and Tron: Legacy got a 50% rating, so i guess that's why it wasn't nominated...

    :P

  • @hosshouhanon4real

The Academy should never base their opinions off the Tomatometer, and I'm pretty sure they don't, because movies with low T-meter scores do get nominated sometimes. Tron: Legacy was clearly the best soundtrack of the year (of the mainstream movies at least) and the reason for its exclusion was just that a bunch of old farts aren't taken with electronic music.

  • @blasterchief123 Yeah...you're right. :P But that's just my opinion. I love electronic music, but I am seriously in love with the HTTYD music. :)

  • @hosshouhanon4real

I did like the HTTYD soundtrack, it was good in and old-school sort of way.

  • Listening to this makes me feel a stewing and effective mixture of sadness and anger. It's amazing how a tune so simple can have such a lasting effect on my emotions. Well done.

  • 212 people are nolan fanboys

  • Thumbs up if you jog through your University Campus while listening to this on you ipod :P

  • @SurfaceCollison Well I haven't an iPod, I'm not rich. Bullshit!
