The 2009 Prius will be plug in, I will wait and get a 2010 because the '09 will be late hitting the showroom. That is unless Chevy has the Volt ready to go by then. The Chevy Volt will be a babe magnet with that killer styling!

People buying Hummers left and right..lot's of expensive expensive gas guzzlers on the road which cost a fortune to fuel. A prius can be had for around 23000 base. Some places in cali are doing full plug in for under 10k..not much diffrence, except you save on fuel and also on cost of car..the avg american car on the road if new cost 18k+
It's exciting to see that a technology as relatively new as hybrid has already been improved. I ride a bike everywhere but am buying a Prius, intending to have it converted to a plug-in hybrid for winter driving. Most people are not aware that electric companies, like the one here in Cleveland (CPP), has a reduced winter rate. It even gets better: if I use over 1000kW/hr the rate then drops from $0.055 to $0.035. Rates are higher during A/C peak season (summer.)
Cost prohibitive! The cost to make this electric modification to a Prius is as much as the original sticker price of the vehicle. That eliminates 99% of the general population and therefore is a "pie in the sky" fix to the high costs of energy. Unless the manufacturer comes onboard by mass producing these cars, the average person simply cannot afford one.
You totaly miss the point. Yes, these early first adopter conversion will be expensive. But it shows that the technology is readily available. Let's get the car companies to build these and make them afortable for everyone.

I sincerely hope they do though and will be watching. If these vehicles ever become available within what I consider a reasonable price, I'll get one.
You can write your political representatives and ask them to adopt this technology for their fleet cars, or ask them to provide tax incentives. Both of these actions from the government will bring the technology to more of us sooner and cheaper.

Plug in hybrids are unfair to the oil companies. Oil companies give us jobs, donate money to charity and keep soldiers employed. Can plug in hybrids do that? Of course not. Stop subsidizing oil alternatives. We have a war to fight.
We have to start looking at the bigger picture man... I hope you're kidding. Anyway there's a whole new industry that will open up new jobs for electric/hybrid cars.
I completely agree. I think its disgraceful that people sleep at night, when they could be out driving a car, generating jobs in the oil industry. And how selfish of people, to install solar panels, threatening the profits of those poor coal companies. What has loyalty come to? Someone shold trell George Bush to stopp supprorting Plug-in Hybridds immediately (he thinks they're cool, as they can decrease US dependency on the Saudis), and tell him to get back to promtoing big SUVs. - Lazy Liberal
