  • This video is still very relevant.

I removed the bottom freezer cover but I did not see the drain hole. The entire lower back area of the freezer compartment was iced up.

I started melting the ice with hot water, sopping up the mess, repeating until low and behold, there it was, the drain hole. Eventually I was able to get a heavy duty nylon zip tie down the drain hole and clear it.

Thank you for posting this video and I hope you return here from time to time to check on your feedback.

  • Thanks for replying. I guess leaving it unplugged for 8 hours did the trick. Since my fridge was completely sealed and I couldn't clean out the hole as you suggested, I just let it de-ice for 8 full hours. Most websites suggested only 4 hours but the first time I tried that it didn't work so this time I de-iced for twice that time. It's now 24 hours later and I don't see any dripping - yahoo!!!

  • Nice video. Very clearly diagrammed. I could not remedy problem, though, because the drain hole is not visible on my model. I am going to leave unplugged for several hours so maybe just thawing will do the trick. The back of my fridge is completely sealed as well. I think they designed my fridge this way so purchaser would have to call expensive repairperson. Anyone have any other recommendations?

  • @debbiegainesart, on some models, you have to remove a plastic panel in order to access the drain hole. Try that. Good luck.

  • Thanks for this video, it helped me fix my leak and save a bunch of mula.

  • Allow me to add my VERY heartfelt thanks to all the rest of the thank you's here! All the water was ruining my hardwood floor, and god knows I don't have the moolah to blow on a repairman right now. This was THE best vid about fridge repair on youtube. Others I saw never even MENTIONED the possibility of a frozen shut tube. I hope good karma catches up with you for saving so many people money!

  • @Ilikegargoyles, I humbly thank you. Live long and prosper.

  • my tv does not have the hole, i checked everywhere

  • Thanks for this video. This is the second time Iv'e had to do this. Drain was clogged and iced over. I used a blow dryer to melt ice, and plastic zip tye pushed thru tube to clear clog. 1/2 hour start to finish.

  • what doe$ the cord do?

  • @Zombbie666, Push cord thru to clear clogged tube

  • I also vaccum drain pan

  • Thank you for making this video. You saved me money. I'm certain a call to a repairman would have been $100 or more.

  • This was the first explanation I found anywhere that actually made sense and helped me fix the problem. Thanks!

  • Great video

  • Funny and helpful! Thanks!

  • sometimes i feel that fridge makers have the worst designs.... my drain pipe is curved upwards in a U shape.... can't they just create an insulated drain which does not have the fan blowing icy wind into it all the time?

  • Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!...Thanks for adding this! Fixed my problem!

  • Like the Ice Ice baby music. Nice touch lol.

  • Hey guys, I have a whirlpool with similar setup. found a puddle by front right corner. I removed and checked the drain hole. I found snow build-up over hole. I poured hot water in and it flowed right to the tray below. Not sure if I corrected the problem or not. Any other ideas? Thanks!

  • Great video, fixed the problem Thanks.

  • De-Icing now :) Well, I started to do that already before watching the video:). So it's a relief to see I'm probably on the right track:). Thank you!

  • Awesome. Thanks!

  • Ice ice baby

  • Great Video loved it! Off to de-ice my freezer, thanks nterpri!

  • Yeah--I just did this on a Whirlpool with similar appearance. In fact I believe Whirlpool still makes Kenmore stuff. Several ideas.... I boiled water and used small beaker to pour into hole. Others say salt is another help. I thought about this and believe that due to an level floor, the fridge was tilted to the left causing an ice build up along the left side which eventually overwhelmed the defrost coil. the drain hole as you see is to the right of center. level the front.

  • totally useful, i love the music too

  • I have a fridge that we call a pissing fridge ;-))

It leaks water but on the outside. The freezer is all frozen with ice and I believe it just doesn't do a proper defreeze cycle.

I haven't tried what you have showed yet. Would it be the remedy for leak outside of fridge? The fridge works fine otherwise.

  • my husband works on peoples appliances. they need to unplug the fridge, dryer and vacume the coils area about every 1 or 2 months. It will keep from the problems of the fridge and keep from fires starting with a dryer as often do. the furnace filter needs change often and you will get more cool air in summer.

  • Man this is a life saver - cleaned up the damn drain hole and vola things are back to normal. Saved me decent chunk.. :)

  • I am very glad I found this video because I used it to fix my Kenmore refrigerator that was filling up with water. I used warm water to melt the ice that was frozen under the plastic bottom plate in the fridge. However, I found out that the reason why my drain hole was plugged was because some idiot had jury-rigged a piece of wire into the drain hole. Once I removed the wire the drain hole finally unplugged and I was able to get water to go down the drain tube.

  • My whirlpool KQ00 drain tube was plugged by 2.5" ice. I poured some hot water from the top and then nserted a cable TV cable from the back up to push the ice plug out. It took me 2 hours to get the job done. You need a small socket wrench to remove the two sheet metal screws from the freezer floor and the refrig back cover. Thanks for the video.

  • YOU"RE THE BEST!

Thank you sooooooooooooo much for putting this video up!!

  • Ohhh it's way back there and tiny. I'm looking at all the plastic pieces like..... Hmmmmm.

  • thanks best most helpfulest video every

  • Damnned.... I called the repair guy befre I saw your video, and 24 hrs. ago he pour some mild hot water through the drain hole and after that replugged the fridge´s cord, it hasn´t dripped water again, but it´s not cooling or freezing normally now, I feel the slightly cool air flow but not been able to ice water the way it was when I bought it. Any ideas would be apreciatted! Thanks

  • @drvegueta my husband said to unplug and pull out fridge and vacume all dust out of back where the cooling area is. 5 years ago he did this at our school and still working fine. people should vacume and change filters for furnace every month or two. it is also necessary to unplug the dryer and do the vacume in back so it will not get fire there where theheating coil is. this causes a lot of house fires.

  • "Be sure to use pliers on rear panel screws. Immediately drop screws on floor."

    Thanks!

  • i'm currently trying this to fix my fridge.. but i cant access the drain hole.. and i'm endlessly frustrated! its only about 4 yrs old, and is a stainless frigidair upright.

  • Sounds like the drain hole or tube is plugged up w/ food particles. Try inserting a small wire and unplug it. Good luck.

  • @nterpri Thanks SO much for this simple, easy to understand video! You saved our bacon...literally! Our fridge is back in operation and we're happy! Thanks again!!
