  • I just watched this for the first time ever and I could'nt hold back a tear... Twenty-two years later, these images are still overwhelming! Thank you very much for placing them here!

  • communisms only contribution to history: Shit, shit and more shit. That day a shit was flushed out in the toilet, and 28 years waisted on looking at it, instead of doing and seeing something good. Communism is the biggest crime in world history.

  • Check my comments in my channel for information about the Pre-January 8th version of Inception.

  • i remember this day from US as it was a momentous day that shall live on in the hearts of my ppl... even though i live far away, the blood of these ppl runs through my veins...

  • @Zaharkl aha an communism ? let me Kalkulate Stalin alone kills more people than Hitler and Mao and Lenin and Pol pot etc etc etc

  • @CA1965 Mao killed 80mill, way more than stalin. im not advocating stalin, stalin executed my great grand father and put my grandfather life in prison for being christian. i know what im talking about.

  • @Zaharkl undestand so why do you support communism then ? just curious

  • @CA1965 I love the idea of it. i am a Democratic Socialist, i just wished they had more freedom, freedom of religion most importantly.

  • What I have always wondered is this. The Death Strip on the East, was it not mined?

If so , how did the East Berliners get access up to the wall?

  • @johnblack03 there NO MINES in Berlin mines were only used at the inner German Boarder undtilk 1985 i think...

  • @johnblack03 well that sound a little bit like a perpeteum mobile ;)

Vielen danke!! Thanks very much for that, it was beautiful, i'm so glad I got to visit Berlin, my hotel was in East Berlin so I saw the old communist apartment blocks, but the two parts seem very integrated now, which is a heart warming sight.

  • OMG, T was there, exactly that day!

German can do it . Why not Chinese?

  • Thank you for the valuable video.this is historical day, forever the world without wall!

  • I was 12 years old in 1989. I remember very well how it was wonderful. from Brazil

  • No one got punished harder than Hungary after the world wars. The Treaty of Trianon reduced Hungarys population from 20.8 million to 7 million, and its land area reduced by 72%. Add to this the loss of up to 90% of vast natural resources, industry, railways, and other infrastructure. Ethnic Hungarians live under harsh persecution in the new states created by the treaty even today. Millions of Hungarians became minorities in their own motherland, where their ancestors lived over 1000 years.

  • To all Americans:

Even though it doesnt look like this all the time. Most of us will never forget what you did to our country. I know the fall of the wall wasnt only a result of American politics, but we are grateful for all you have done to us even after we caused a disasterful war for all mankind.

American soldiers were loved in West Germany because most of them were good people !

I cant blame Russia, France or Britain for their actions thought. They suffered greatly during the war.

  • I was born exactly a year after this was filmed yet it still gave me chills... but napoleonicstrike is completely right, albeit undertanding what is being said doen't hurt either ; )

    BERLIN 1961-1989 DON´t FORGET!

  • This was a wonderful event in the world.

i will never forget it. i was 18 years old, and in college, and all the students (USA) were watching on televisions, all over the campus, in rooms, at the student union building, in class. it was magical. myself & many other students had tears in our eyes.

we were so happy, it was a remarkable moment, so if we were so happy, i can only imagine how happy the germans were to have the freedom to move through their country again as the concrete scar died

  • @USCFlash here here my friend...im 23 (born in 1988) and i watch archive videos and stories from germans who were their when it was built and taken down.and watching videos even brings tears to my eyes to see germany re unified...it ruly was a great moment in history...and something i will never forget...even though i was 1 years old...but looking into videos lol...truly amazing...and never to be forgotten or repeated

  • NO WALL - Just one Berlin.... LOVE IT!

  • @ficaficarix as a Toronto Canadian....i was born in 1988 and when i watch this in todays world....im so happy for Germany....congrats,u guys WERE Nazis...but were still human, and u had a duty forced by a totalitarian government

  • i have a piece of that wall and it has some graffiti on it

  • thank youz

  • I think its kinda sad my generation will never understand the anxiety and joy this day had and what the fall of this wall meant to the world at the time.

  • I had Frequent Flier Miles and a Passport! I was 19 and my Mom wouldn't let me go to Berlin! One regret of of my life.

  • "Ende Diese Mauer!"

Der schönste Tag in unser aller Leben.

If you want to see happy German people, here's the place to look. Here, and the following year's world cup :)

This was such a happy time for everyone connected to it.

    Ein Volk, endlich, in Frieden.

    Finally free.

Congratulations, my grandmother and my grandfather. You fought for this, you went to prison for this, and today Germany is better because you did it.

    Today we celebrate you.

    /watch?v=WSU6rlEhtto

  • great video! thanks for sharing :)

  • :-)

  • last words of the video: "and the GDR should still the GDR." a opinion of many people at this time.

  • I got chills when the first piece got pulled down. Very powerful video.

    Mfg

  • the wall's down?!?

    when did this happen

  • It was built in 1961 and tored down in 1989.

  • I was born in 1989, August 3

  • ii was born a year before the wall want down

    May 26, 1988 ^_^

  • so does the wall have like no freedom writings on it or about hitler being a great leader which he's not so yea...

  • the writing was about that the wall was also a consequence from WW 2 and Hitler that is the reason for the swastika sign on the wall.

  • Some day all borders will be teared down. All of them are meaningless. Deliverance at hand!

im so happy for all of you that you became after so many years freedom

  • Sehr hublich

Wenn I sage das Video Mein Augen standen voller Tränen

  • not only the berlin wall has been gone... do you remember?

  • @kilimanjaro51 what else was falled than?

  • not only the berlin wall has been gone... do you remember

  • It has been an historical moment!!

  • I was there that night with a friend. Media had announced they'd cut a hole in the wall for a new border crossing that night, we decided we wanted to watch. We arrived maybe 11 pm, it was already crowded but nothing much happened. After an hour or so waiting in the crowd we decided to leave because we were freezing to death. Probably a good idea because we'd have waited another 5 hours according to the time stamp in the video. I had no video camera then so no footage, sorry. :)

  • I was there the in the same night with a friend. The media had announced that they would open a border crossing that night. We decided we wanted to watch the wall being cut open and we arrived maybe 11 pm. It was crowded then but nothing much happened. After waiting for maybe an hour in the crowd we decided to leave cause we were freezing to death. Probably a good thing, we would have had to wait for 5 hours according to the time stamp in the video. I had no video camera then so no footage. :)

  • ZEITGEIST MOVEMENT !!!! now its the WORLD's turn.

break all the "walls" and kck money out.. we dont need it anymore.

  • 1:05

    Schöne Aufnahme! :)

  • hey can any of you german speakers tell me what the two guys at the end of the film were talking about

  • they discuss political situation, reasons for "the mauer" a.s.o.

  • It's difficult beacause I just get some words or phrases but they're talking about the future. They discuss if they can live in the DDR anymore and how to solve the problems of distance. The one said that the seven years has build this wall of distance and that they have to come toghether again. And one of the men there said "Our DDR ought to stay our DDR" sry for the bad english :D so more you just can't understand. Lg Alex

  • The relevant bit about the discussion is that it is taking place at all. Before Nov 9 1989 it would have been unthinkable to have a private discussion with an East German border guard on duty. After Nov 9 their attitude changed completely.

  • The Iron Curtain and the Berlin Wall fell as a result of the 10-year long struggle by the Poles. John Paul II, Lech Walesa, Solidarity. It all started with the visit of JPII in Poland in June of 1979. August 1980 brought about Lech Walesa and the Solidarity movement. Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, Mikhail Gorbachev. The actual unfolding of events of 1989 started with the "round table" discussions and agreements in June 1989 between democratic forces in Poland and the communist regime.

  • was East Russia and West Germany.

It has graffiti swasticas on the wall WTF!!

  • That grafitti should show, that the wall was a follow up direct result of the "third reich" if you take a closer look you can see the borderline of germany in that time from 1933 ro 45

  • Germany, Im really happy for you and Ill let you finish, but China had one of the greatest walls of all time! One of the greatest walls of all time!

  • The Great Wall of China is way different then the Berlin wall though. The Great Wall was built to help protect the people of China, the Berlin wall was to keep people seperated from eachother.

  • germany sucks

  • na dann fahr doch "nach Hause"

  • aber ehrlich!

  • Political and economic isolation.

  • i am in love with my germany.

  • This video is showing a unique historical moment in world history. Thank you very much for uploading this video on YouTube.

Is there anyone out there in YouTube land who was there when this momentous occasion took place?

The wall appears to come down easily as it looks like pre-fab concrete. Was it really that easy to tear down?

Does anyone know what actually caused the DDR to collapse?

  • Hi Klevergirl1,

I've been there that night (until now my only night in Berlin). What would you call easy? It took several hours from the first worker appearing on the wall to cut out a part of the "crown" of the wall (a kind of concrete tube) until they've been able to lift up the first concrete element of the wall. For me that time it didn't look easy, they've torn it for some minutes until it came free...

  • A wonderful moment. One chapter ended in German history, and another began. My German's not very good, but I would love to understand the conversation between the civilian and the DDR border guard at 5:25

  • the civilian asks him if they (the DDR guards and politians and so on..)will go on like they did before with the old order

and the guard answers they will establish a new order,

and that there were many causes and a lot of years that induced to this wall.He also says they will try to get rid of evrything that lies between the two states(it hasn´t yet been decided at that day that we will be 1 State again)

  • My English is not that good,but I hope it's understandable.They say:

    Man:What order?Which you have become?

BG:No,no,the order that we will build now.

    Other M:That man is right.

BG says something, but there is no sound

BG:...and it contributed many years to the existence of that wall.

BG:.. and now we have to look forward

People interrupting: Yes,super, thank you, that was good.

BG:..that we,in a way possible to us,abolish the old things that lie in the way..

P:And the DDR will stay the DDR?

  • 4:28 is great

  • I loveeee all Europe people, Swiss German and the rest!

Because I am European tooo... :-)

  • The MOST EPIC moment ever in the history!!!

I love 1:07, where I see a member of the Kriminalpolizei giving a hand to a member of the Grenztruppen der DDR!

  • currious, was this fillmed from what side, east or west?

  • from the west site but onl until the wall was taken away that morning

  • OK further statements according to what the "Germans" might have done or who the might be would not be published here i don´t put the video on tube just to see that kind of dog fight.

Thank you all for reading that.

  • The one lived and tried to be perfect\nthe others are simply than GERMANS born :) ;P

  • What did we Germans learn? The will of the German people is unstopable! The Germans win the cold war. Not the USA, not GB, not the French, not the Russians. Thats it! The German want it, the German did it. We dont have to ask anybody.

  • true, but dont forget about all the other countries that freed themselves from the USSR (Romania, czechoslovakia, etc.)

  • That is incredible. You lucky man.

  • who was the first man in..

  • Communism officially fails.

  • :-)

  • What dose the info say i'm not so good with Deutch ( i think i spelled it wrong )

  • Das war Aufregung pur damals...

Keiner wusste, wie die Zukunft aussieht.

  • Wow. Were you actually there when they took it down? Gosh, that's insanely cool. (:

  • This is one of the most touching moments in history.

  • true... it was

  • I hope the Germans learned their lesson. Let's let the germans out of their cage now.

Now now Germans , what did you learn? Not to be a bastard , murderous , arrogant country ever again correct?

  • Who do you think you are with your 20+ years ?

you have just been released of egg in nov 1989 .....so step back for a while.

  • You don't have to be too young or too old to know you hold the title of the most barbaric nation earth.

  • Really? What about nations today who are still being barbaric in some way? I could name a few but I won't because I wouldn't stoop to that level. Germany is anything but barbaric today - I think someone's getting his facts a bit wrong. BTW, I'm not German.

  • Chrisg

You're an asshole you know that?

The people of Germany are the nicest people in the world

    Go to hell

  • Not only were you hardly born when this happened, your comment shows you've never left your own country. Pathetic.

    " bastard , murderous , arrogant country"

    suits the US very well

  • What an ignorant comment.. of course you people always forget we were the ones that stood up for Europe, we were the ones that took charge. The problem with Europeans is they all think they are better then the rest of the world.

Fucking imbecile. Idle disposistions don't get shit done.

  • OK Thats it next not Video related comments will be blocked and the user also.

  • This is totally a feel-good video!

  • east and west germany was separated due to economical interest and "communism" The Regan and pre Bush sr administration busted ass to make this happen,

  • it was Reagan!

open this gate, tear down this wall...

  • oh, the myth that Reagan made this happen! I'm sorry to break it to you, but this wass was on the verge of coming down with or without Reagan. Reagan DID NOT help to end the Cold War, it was Gorbachev's policies that caused the Soviet Union to crumble, and it was because he basically ignored East Germany that the wall came down.

  • Reagan maybe didn't cause it directly, but he did influence it. He also challenged Gorbachev to "Tear down this wall". It was, though, mostly Gorbachev.

  • the german people didn't know about this , they did this themselves.

  • What a great day and moment!

  • Hail germany! Root Beer and chucruts for everyone!

  • and bockwurst!

  • how did this all start and why? can someone please respond

  • Post world war 2, the Russians had taken over part of Germany.

  • Russia which was known as USSR built this wall because after WWII Germany was split into two part, East and West Germany. East was communist and West was non communist. So the wall was built to keep U.S. forces from delivering food and water out of West Germany because they did not turn non communist, thanks to The Allies of WWII. So trying to make the West fall to communist, the wall was built, because USSR thought it would make the west fall to communist. But it did not, it stayed free. :)

  • Long story

  • haha, a little thing the cold war !!!

  • akiliase, search on YouTube for a video called "ABC News Berlin Wall Falls." It explains everything that led up to the end of the DDR. It's very good and you will like it!

  • this thing started because of the fact that after the end of the second world war (1945), Europe was divided between 2 superpowers - USA and USSR - and the Central-Eastern Europeans, and the Eastern part of Germany, came under soviet rule, which was an unimaginable disaster for the people in those countries (i'm one of them). They built this wall to stop migration from East Germany to the West, and in 1989, when the final fall of communism came, this wall was torn down, and communism is DEAD!

  • It's a long story. The fall of the wall is not a thing that just happend. It all began with Mr. Michail Gorbatjov's policitics around 1985 with escalated in central Europe around 1988-1989. If you read or studdy the Cold War in Europe you'll understand why it happened.

  • It was put up after Germany was divided into four zones after world war II - British, French, US and Soviet. Berlin was also divided into four zones as it was in the heart of the soviet zone. As West Berlin (british, french and us zones) and East Berlin (soviet zone) became more divided due to the difference between capitalism and communism, Khrushchev (leader of the Soviet union from 1956 onwards) decided to put up the Berlin wall in 1961 as a physical symbol of the "Iron Curtain".

  • "difference between capitalism and communism,"??? Look at China today!

  • ossis nicht sehr gut

  • CA1965: OK
