I got it off of ebay from a guy who's name was aircraftstock or something. I got this one fairly cheap, 80 bucks including shipping (I think it was 50 for the thing plus 30 shipping).
To the engineers who design the black box for airplanes. Why can't the flight data that is stored in the black be transmitted in real time via satellite then stored on a ground based location ?
@StudioMixxx As you know, satellites do have problems and they might miss some important stuff at some point. But it's a good idea though. I think it could be like a card in the sleeve in case the blackbox is missing and can't be found.
Also, I think that this kind of stuff can be intercepted by someone. I don't know what it records, but it could be sensitive information about a flight that terrorists shouldn't know about.
@StudioMixxx , why, why, why... Some fight information is already sent from aircraft to the ground via VHF. What you propose is not an engineering problem. The question is why would you want to set up such an intricate system? The amount of aircraft crashes compared to the amount of worldwide flights each day is miniscule. Furthermore, the black box technology works quite well. You don't wear steel capped boots everyday because you might stub your toes, do you? Same thing.
I want one.

I want to see a strength test of these things done like slamming down the heavy massive steel grapplers of an excavator ontop of them at full force.
