They may have a massive artillery and anti-air defense force but then again, most are obselete and lack sufficient maintenance. Their air force gets only 24 hours of flight training every YEAR. @Cronini Not very effective - many are suffering from lack of food, heat (during winter) and much of their equipment is old and not very well-maintained. They may have a massive artillery and anti-air defense force but then again, most are obselete and lack sufficient maintenance. Their air force gets only 24 hours of flight training every YEAR. They're likely to desert, surrender or even switch sides if a real war broke out.

Take a look at one of those night time satellite views of Earth. Notice that NK is completely dark while the South is lit up like a grid.

There's enough material coming out from NK from several different journalistic and non-journalistic sources, both US and Europe-based ones, that all point towards the same thing. I can see that a small minority of elite, namely party officials etc. who get to live in Pyongyang in what passes for "luxury" in North Korea would be content in their circumstances, but they don't know any better, do they.
