  • Nice shooting. Crap body positioning my friend. Your body should fall naturally in line with the target.

  • @CHOPERUS23 Agreed. Getting right behind the weapon reduces recoil damage to the shoulder as well as making it easier to re-aquire the target(Faster re-aquisition I guess)

  • @CHOPERUS23

The aim is to hit the target. If you are hitting, in this wind, at 1000 yards, then his body position is just fine.

  • Ask a expert about barrell life . I shouldnt comment.

  • Ii dont know enough about barrells to answer that?? wasnt special order and its not pure stainless either , much to my dis belief! a magnet will still stick to it!!!. I know that another guy with a sako was up to 26 000 rounds and still hitting bunnies at 300 yards with his 223!! our other gun a sako 223 is 20 years old and shot more than 2000 rounds and still a beautiful beautiful accurate gun. I suspect that the amount I shoot it, trg 42 will last for years!! cheers.

  • Approximately how many rounds down the tube before you replaced the barrel? Or is that the special order stainless? I have a TRG42 w/ black stock and blued finish in 300WM. I'm curious how many rounds I can expect to send down range before accuracy starts degrading (chrome Molly Barrel).

  • no 300 win mag.

depends on what yo are hitting. for me the 300 is perfect. rips through australian animals at 1000 yards with ease. cost of 338 is almost twice, recoil is alot more, but, going to be better at real distance if you reload.

  • is that the .338 LM???

    Should i consider buying a 300win or the .338lm???

    Cheers.

  • leopold mark 4, 8-25 x tactical recticle. nice scope, can really if the prone position is good can clearly see roo heads and deer heads and place it on them at 1000yards easily. but....... I have never had the confidence in the gun to hit head shots at 1000 yards. I have always gone for the chest. My longest first shot hit is 820m on animals.

never hit anything at 1000 yards yet , first shot, normally wind gets me. I dont shot enough either to instictively know.

  • Great video! What scope are you using?

  • wind sounds worst than it was, only about 5 to 10 mph as I can remember but the sound across the mic makes it worst. It was consistent so once I made the adjustment via the computer then.......its like having no wind.. but if the wind changed I would be stuffed as 1 mph wind at 1km for that bullet shifts the bullet 6 inches.

  • how the hell were you making 1k yard shots in that kind of wind?

  • With the muzzle brake makes all the difference, I have shot it without and it is 'heavy" on the shoulder. You get alot of energy come back at you especially if yr watching or the car is near and the energy rebounds off the car.

reloads - havent exactly worked it out , I buy big lots of power and lapua brass is reloaded ?? times 3-5 until I lose confidenece in them.

    projectile 60 cents, primer 10, power 30-50cents, cases 3$ /5 =60cents

    TOTAL = $1.50 AUST. roughly.

  • The recoil on this sako doesnt really look that bad.. from what I have read, the reoil on a 338 LM should be brutal.. but you make it look like a walk in the park..!!

How much do reloads cost per bullet for you .. ?? the reason Im asking is that relaoding would probably be the only option for me, if I ever came to own a 338 LM..

  • You may zero one day with the sun high and then miss by a mile on an overcast day. One of the hardest things to take into account is the angle of the sun and how it influences your optics.

Generally (but unfortunately not always) you'll find that the sun tends to "push" your shots. What I mean is, your optics tend to by high in towards the sun, or the angle its shining from.

I know this sounds crazy, but its a noted fact here in Europe, just nobody has bothered to take concrete measurements yet.

  • came with the gun, made by sako

  • Where did you buy the muzzle break?

  • ???? you talking cost per shot, ??sorry but reloads dont cost that much.

  • @scooterboy2325 He could have been talking about the cost of petrol for driving back and forth :P. The prices for fuel is crazy ;) Nice shooting though.

  • Thats 20 bucks, thats 20 bucks, thats 20 bucks...

  • why does mine shoot high then??? in core bore, then starts to drop after 5 shots?

    bore gets hotter, more resistance??

    cheers

  • why does mine shoot high then??? in core bore, then starts to drop after 5 shots?

  • Nice video. I find my cold bore shot hits about 1 MOA low and to the left. I think this is usual. Good luck in the future. And don’t let the negative people bring you down. Most people wouldn’t believe your video because it isn’t something they can do. Nice shooting. I’m still working on my 500 yard cold bore shot I keep missing for stupid reasons.

  • ps jugga10101 is scooterboy2325

  • dont know what f.ex moose is but it runs a 208grain V max hornady projectile if that helps.

  • Can you use this rifle for hunting? f.ex moose?

  • @Heikki1 You can use the TRG-42 for hunting as long as you're willing to carry it..I believe .300 Win Mag is an adequate caliber for moose but you might be better off with a TRG-42 in .338 Lapua.

  • @ddoleiden ive hunted moose with everything between .308 up to a .338 win mag and i will tell u accuracy is more important than anything, i shot a moose at 200 yds with a .308 in the lungs and by the time i walked up there that thing was just as dead as if u shot it with a .50 bmg

  • @deadtofall666 .308 will do the job but I wouldnt use anything under because you dont want the animal to suffer. And the sad thing is, whilst you and myself may be able to shoot accuratly at range most people cant so they should probably use something with more power to give a more humane kill.

  • @tequese i totally agree with you man, and another sad thing is people will go out and start spraying lead at animals at 4 and 500 yards and they have never practiced shooting that far in their life, they are just hoping. I say know your limits, and dont shoot past a distance you practice shooting on a regular basis.

  • @ddoleiden I have seen moose taken down where they stand with 270, 30-06, 7mm and 300 win, if you are accurate you don't need an anti tank round.

  • @Jethro212 I stand corrected!

  • @Heikki1 if your willing to carry it... There are lighter rifles out there with just as much power.

  • Good shooting Great video and what an awesome place to do long range

  • Nice video man!! Thanks for showing the whole process! Keep it up!

  • sorry to disappoint you. sorry I dont have a film crew with me when I shoot. I just set the camera rolling and cut all the crap out at home so not to bore you.

If i wanted to impress you guys I wouldnt have added the rest of the video that shows me missing and then resetting. yet!. so it was, what you saw. Ill try and video some of my "live" hits at distance, 800yards plus. Having said that I missed something at 400 yards the other day. I dont pretend to be a great shooter. .

  • No matter who represents or what you see. If I don't see the target and the gun in the same frame, I won't believe what I see. Sorry, disqualified in my book. (Lots of idiots do this in the USA so don't think I'm bias against your country) Nice gun though. The 5/5 shot/hit ratio had a cutaway scene at 1:03 - 1:04 .. Blame the cameraman if you must.

  • nice mate, NOT A BAD GROUP AT ALL, .

  • Shooting with that wind condition and hitting your target that distance is impressive!

  • Finland.

    Best country ever.

We have them to thank for SAKO, Nokia, and the Lapua round.

  • @n1b3luNg dont forget molotov cocktail :D

  • @n1b3luNg And high quality AK47 copies, RK62 and RK95.

  • @n1b3luNg One out of the three! Nokia phones suck and the .338-.416 Rigby was an American designed cartridge Lapua adopted and refined and named the .338 Lapua!!

  • @sakoshooter48 Actually the 416 rigby was designed by John Rigby an Englishman living in London...

  • @tequese Your point? Notice I said .338-.416 Rigby. I don't believe I said .416 Rigby anywhere in my statement. Yes, John Rigby was the father of the .416 Rigby cartridge. The .416 Rigby was the parent case for the American designed .338-.416 Rigby which went on to become the .338 Lapua. Changes to the head and web thickness of the case was the major improvement Lapua added to refine what we now know as the .338 Lapua.

  • @sakoshooter48 Yes you did. You said, and I quote "the .338-.416 Rigby was an American designed cartridge" Take note of the word "Rigby" Therefore it wasnt an American design at all. However after your recent post I think you must mean the .338-416Rigby. When you put the two decimals (.338-.416Rigby) I though you were talking about the the .338 & the .416Rigby. Lookm at it like this= You write 25-20Win not .25-.20Win. Or 30-06 or 44-40. I just missinterpreted it because of how you wrote it.

  • @sakoshooter48

Lololo. First of all, those are two different cartridges. Second of all, .416 Rigby was designed by Englishman in London. Just because you are American doesn't mean that you own everything. It's like saying that 12.7x99mm and 12.7x108mm are the same cartridge because you invented the .50 cal first, but that's not true. How dare you to call yourself "Sakoshooter"?

  • @Nacturl And again your point? The Navy pukes were looking for an upgrade to the .300 Winchester Magnum as a primary sniper round. Using the .416 Rigby as a starting point, the ENGLISH designed .416 RIGBY was modified and necked down to accept the .338 bullet. Experimenting with the newly named .338-.416, the Naval Surface warfare group experimented with the case/bullet combination, and it was deemed unacceptable. Lapua, bless their immortal souls, modified the concept cartridge.....

  • @sakoshooter48 into what we now know as the .338 Lapua magnum. Lapua modified the case web and improved on the design of the neck and made it their proprietary cartridge. I shoot a modified SAKO TRG-42 in long range tactical competitions. It has a 29" Mike Rock 5R barrel with a 1-9.4" twist. I use a U.S Optics SN-3 in 3.8-22 power scope mounted in Badger Ordinance Max-50 rings sitting on top of a Richard Near +20 MOA scope mount. Lapua brass and custom made (my own design) 285 gr. RBT....

  • @sakoshooter48 bullets. 89.4 grains of Vihtavuori N-560 gives me a 15 foot muzzle velocity of 2920 fps. all started with Federal M215 match primers. Necks are turned with a Sinclair neck turner for my specified neck dimension. Sakoshooter48, yup, thats me!

  • @sakoshooter48

And when do you guys learn to say "Sako" and "Lapua" correctly? The way how you Americans say it sounds horrible.

  • @Nacturl

we will pronounce them with our american accent so go to hell!

Im sure you cant pronounce a single word that is American to sound the way we say it but who gives a shit anyway?? People are so damn retarded on youtube and freak out about the dumbest things

  • @n1b3luNg P.S. I own a George Garner built TRG-42 in .338 Lapua. Receiver on that rifle is tougher than woodpecker lips and as built, I can get a 300 grain Sierra MK out there accurately to well over 1800 yards.

  • @n1b3luNg

And for beating the russians in 1939

Finland was saved and also Sweden.

  • @Jyrki1964

Thanks. Just read the Winter War wikipedia article. Very brave. Very Finnish. Nice of the Swedes and Norwegians to help out too.

  • Nice vid mate from a fellow Aussie shooter. Damn jealous of your set up though hehe!

  • Great work

  • Thank you for using finnish product!

  • @Kemusika Best rifles ever made.Greetings from Norway(My grandfather was Finnish)

  • auzzie?

  • scooterboy signed in as jugga

    yeap aussie

  • scooterboy signed in as jugga . Yeap, that sounds the best but Im not that experience yet. I would like to be able to do that.!! I can do that with foxes out to 300yards at night witht the 204 , as I have too, their too quick to mess around but , havent tried witht the big gun. My horus software seems to work perfectly! very slow, but works, a steel target is very slow too!! haha .

  • Nice shooting, you should keep a marker with you and consider playing with Kentucky Windage. The wind is high and comming from the right of your target, so simply set your aimpoint off to the right to compensate directional velocity. Works like a dream and in a real life situation it could save your ass. Think spherically not laterally or horizontally, because wind aids gravity and if you practice this it becomes a feel thing from MOA.

  • @nucsol Please post some 1000 yard "feel thing" groups for us to

all see so we can all learn from your Kentucky Windage ways and compare

your Jedi master bullshit to the real MOA adjustments, dope charts based on field testing and other actual methods of long distance shooting .

  • @micbaca Hey Shithead! I hunt animals, do you really think I would sit there and do calculace while my game stands there? My point is that certain methods are quick when or if you get a long shot option you self important little putz

  • kill bears??. I dont shoot stuff that big.

A 208 grain bullet going 2850 would do some damage in the right spot. I would prefer something like the 338 edge or 338 lapua with 250 to 300 grain, and from a long way away so it couldnt eat me!!!

  • verry nice. 5/5

  • whats the difference with this and the

    Sako TRG-22 ??

  • scooterboy2325 signed in as jugga.

the trg 22 is 308 , the trg 42 is 300 win mag. I think they sport the same barrel 26 inch.

  • the 42 also comes in the .338 lapua

  • @jugga10101

could this gun kill a bear?

  • @andrewvanrhoberts haha this gun could easily kill a bear its a .300win mag u could take nearly anythin in the world with it

  • Comment removed

  • @jugga10101

    I mean a grizzly bear?

  • Go on there website....

  • @aznshir0 trg-22 has lock frame that accepts 75mm long cardridges, 26in barrel and a 10round mag. available cal 308 win

trg-42 has longer lock frame that accepts 95mm long cardridges, has 27 1/8in long barrel and has, depending on cal 7(300 win mag) or 5(338 lm) round mag.

stock is about the same(i think), due to bigger metals 42 is a bit heavier(4.9 kg vs 5.1-5.3 kg)

  • u can hear when they hit..... O_o

  • yes on steel plate you can hear as the hit comes @ 1000 yards about 4 sec after the shot. about 1.5 sec to get there and about 3 seconds to get back

  • Awesome shooting.

  • Thats excellent shooting considering the distance and the heavy wind

  • 208 grain Hornady A-max, not V-max =P Although I wish they made a v-max version.........

    Braxton

  • scooterboy signed in as jugga!!:

the recoil is not that bad with muzzle brake. I have a sako 308 hunting rifle that kicks alot more than the trg42 with muzzle. it is very loud though!!. if you get one you will need ear protection for every shot and for anyone around you.

    cheers

without it is harsh to say the least!!

  • whats the recoil like with the muzzle brake?

the rifle doesnt look like it recoils very much.

  • scooterboy signed in as jugga!!: mine still do fit in the magazine , luckily, but sometimes easier to just slide a bullet in one at a time instead of taking the magazine out a loading it. sometimes just lazy

  • Why does some people reload bolt-action snipers in the way of putting only 1 round in the barrel?

Sorry bad eng.... Can't really say it right but hope u understood....

  • When you reload your own ammo you seat the bullet out of the case so far it will not fit in the magazine.

  • the stand bounced after shot.. I know that gun better than my girlfriend.. Wind correction was pretty nice, did you calculate it, or feel it?

  • definitely calculate it with wind meter.

1mph error at 1000 yards for this gun is 6 inches!!

  • great video,it made me wonder how a sniper deals with a cold barrel when he has one shot at extreme range.......

  • yes I agree _ i dont know how they did it without all the gear, lasers, etc etc

lots of practice day in day out I guess

  • Your an excellent marksman.

  • sounds worst than it was due to the wind going across the mic on video. about 10 mph as i remember.

  • None too gentle, that wind you're having.

  • sounds worst than it was , only about 5- 10 mph. the wind coming across the mic sounds worst

  • scooterboy signed in as jugga!! Thanks for yr comments. I tried to show the difficulty in hitting that target with cold bore. Havent done it yet but starting to data plot all my first shots now to see where they are hitting compared to a warm up bore. Its quite time consuming!

  • Thanks for posting a video that shows the target and actual groupings, divulges a little bit into ballistics, and a little bit about dialing in scopes. All the other videos I've seen on here are extremely boring videos of people pointing the camera at themselves shooting and that's it.

  • It's a original, 26 inch stainless.

At a km , what is yr bullet drop as the barrel heats up? I gather that bench rest shooters just know their variations and make adjustments as they go. BUT....... then again may not have this problem. The problem I have is that our gun is for hunting not target so first hit is important, and warming up the barrel is not an option. I almost know the adjustment for a cold barrel, but after 5 shots and the barrel is hotting up, ??? got no idea

  • I´ve never tried at 1000 meters, but i got a drop of about 30cm at 500 meters last i tried.. that was with six shots fired rapidly...

The ammo used was ordenary Norma training ammo, perhaps it will pull up some when i try with 185gr Lapua Scenars, i´m planning a session with a target similar to yours, shooting across a lake as soon as the snow dissapear and it´s gettig a little warmer.

    /Andreas

  • it seems that it happens all the time. They tend to drop lower as I shoot but need to do some more testing with a camera at the target to see very shot. I was happy to just hit the target when I started but now I guess its time to tune a little better. might be that my load is pretty hot. at close to max load with 2217 power, coming out at 2850 ft/sec. it seems to get the best groups! thats why I keep loading like that.

the different combinations of changes are endless.

  • Impressive 5 shots! I am surprised at the extreme bullet drop with the heated barrel.

The TRG dissapates heat rapidly and is specifically designed for this type of shooting. Is it possible that other components in the cartridge loading process are affecting this? Maybe powder measure or bullet seating or, does this happen evertime you shoot?

  • I´ve experienced the exact same phenomena regarding bulletdrop when the barrel is heated with my Trg-42 Stealth, same caliber as yours.. i got it explained by a gunsmith who said the barrels is a tad to big in the bore..

Don´t ask me why but i´m sure they have a reason for making them such...

Is your barrel an original or coustom?

    /Andreas

  • original

  • thanks for posting this vid.

its nice to see some one showing the process of shooting a rifle at the 1000yd+ range.

best of luck with getting that cold barrel shot, post the vid if you record it.

  • what is the Extreme Spread Velocity with this load? it might be the reason why with the same Zero you hit high. ideally it should be under 30ft/s and single digit for Standard Deviation

  • cant remember the actual data but will test again, however the speed were probably from memory on the high side of yr suggestions.

do you have a high shot when shooting cold bore?
