the plan is to introduce 100,000 tons of sulfur dioxide to the troposphere. that is a fraction of 1% of the amount of sulfur dioxide that the earth naturally pumps into the atmosphere annually via volcanoes and the ocean. when Pinatubo erupted it had a net cooling effect globally with no adverse crop effects. that is the stated goal of this project and all the models support it.

@studenlawyer the levles of sulphur dioxide in the stratosphere in question for the Geo-engineering option of sun dimming would not cause levles of acid rain that's harmfull or hard to handle with counter meassures. Two reasons are the height in the atmosphere the particles would be located, which is above clouds and so the bulk of the material would not interact with water becoming rain. Secondly the amount of sulphur dioxide is lower than those released by volcanic eruptions in recent times.
