@BigVOLdaddy Yea, I'm sure Sonny had to feel strange that his biggest hit became the unofficial fight song for the Vols when he was a diehard Wildcat fan. Talk about irony. Probably has had to tell people his whole life that he's a Wildcat fan and not a Vols fan.
This particular set up and sound he has out of his granada sounds VERY close to the same sound Earl got out of his on "Take me in your lifeboat" on the foggy mountain gospel album..I mean it's so close it's almost Identical....Can defiantly tell they are out of the same batch and right off the line one after the other.
5 string banjoes kick ass. I feel a little conflicted diggn Redneck, hillbilly music. But shit thats some toe taping, kick up your heels, good time, moonshine drinking music. Thankyou for posting.
earl's granada is out of the batch 9584..he got the 9584-3 from don reno and traded him a 34 rb75 and a D18 martin guitar cuz the banjer was in bad shape. Earl didn't even ask for it don gave it to em! Sonny has the 2nd banjer outta that batch earl has the 3rd. Only 20 were made...talk about a priceless instrument. I'd give my left testical for one...well maybe not..lol "scratches head" hmmm
The computer that Sonny is playing there is perhaps the greatest five string banjo on the planet. It is what Earl's Granada used to be. It's great to hear Sonny talk about their classic hit, although it is kinda sad to hear Bobby singing it so slow and in G. Not a slam against Bobby or anyone else... everyone has to get old. These guys are some of the all time best of Bluegrass music, especially Sonny. He's probably the greatest Bluegrass banjo player IMO.
good great music

another reason he gets such a good sound is also beacause, the man had played that banjo so long that it was just good and broke in.

I believe they're doing this one "Low 'n' Slow" because it's a teaching video, not a performance.
