Yes, he did run alcohol in the 20s, but so did Joe Kennedy. He didn't like violence, as he said "violence is a terrible substitute for intelligence". Also, Mr. Lansky did not serve more than a few weeks of jail time, and for petty offenses. Let's remember what Smedley Butler said about big government and big business.
