Non Master Marshall Plexis. You really have to be a good player to sound like that through those amps because you have to saturate the power section to get that tone. Boogies get their distortion in the preamp, and can make a lame player sound good, because the sound is so compressed. Van Halen, Lynch, Rhoades, Jake e Lee, Reb Beach, John Sykes, they were all Plexi users. Some of them Still use them. That is THE AMP.

@scitslunkphantasmo I think you may be right. I know the 1987 Whitesnake album was done with a Mesa, a Mark III I believe. I think I read in Sykes website, though, that for the last 10 years he's been using a JCM 800. I don't know where I got the Idea that Sykes was a Plexi user.

No.. unfortunately that bad tone is coming not from the amp but from those pickups he speaks of... They sound fine for leads but to be honest he has the worst tone of anybody I've seen play through the marshall vintage moderns. They had him demo the VM in a video and the tone gave me a headache! He needs to consult Mr Paul Gilber on how that amp is supposed to sound, lol.

Doug is a kick ass player though. I really have to see witesnake sometime soon...

yes, .11 gauge, but he is tuned down to Eb. that means his tension is like .10 gauge in E. Sometimes he is tuned to down D as well.

i think the only reason ozzy wouldnt get this guy cz one of his first major gigs was with dio and he was dios touring guitarist, if you want to hear some really old classic rock metal from doug check out a band called bad moon rising - blood on the streets on youtube. some amazing stuf cz this band made it big in japan but not really anywhere else. chek it out!
