  • lol fat dog you have

  • the blade 400 waz my first heli and i will allways have a softspot for it, its a brill wee heli ...... awesome!

  • Where can I get pontoons like yours please? I am in Scotland though ...

  • No controller strap and li'l rough landing... so the vid is good in a way. Orange skids is a good idea...

  • that mother fucker is loud

  • Hi NightFlyer. I was resting my hopes on getting the msr at the weekend for christmas, unfortunatly they dont have any at my LHS and he's suggested getting the 400. I've sussed flying my 3ch syma032 and wanted to progress but I'm not sure if this is too big a leap.

What do you think? Obviously I'd like one!!

  • @njtl2686 Even with my limited knowledge of helis id say the jump from 3ch to a 6ch like the blade 400 would be HUGE.I started off on a 4ch coaxial and im 1 week into a blade 120sr (fixed pitch) now which ive picked up pretty quick.Id say your much better waiting for an msr or 120 sr before leaping to a 400.(ill be looking at a 400 myself at some point but may even try a larger fixed pitch first to make the jump even smaller).

  • @chiQiboy I got the MSR on Christmas day and by 1430 I'd broken the skid, the front snapped off one. I cut the front off the other one to balence it and put a bit of blue tack in the nose to counter balance. Still finding it very hard to fly but not sure if thats me being rubbish or I've done some other damage to it. I'm hoping its just unbalanced and when I get new skids (not the pants kind) I'll be able to get the trim sorted. I've read up more on it and I'm trying to use the controls v softly

  • @njtl2686 i went from virtually no experience with rc heli's straight to the blade, and , with a lot of help from a sim, found i could do a basic hover within a few days. it is a very responsive heli and my tendancy was to over correct a lot and that meant a few crashes here and there. if you have had some experience with them i'm sure you could handle it if you take it steady

  • Your'e a good r/c pilot

  • very nice explanations for starters

  • Love your videos!!! Im hopefully going to purchase one of these over my holiday break. Keep them coming!

  • the stock gyro on the blade 400 is not that good and the stock servos suck i changed all that stuff on mine

  • What kind of cam are you using? Good angle, good shooting. Keep up the good work! 5 stars

  • what is better stock, the blade 400 or blue ray?

  • dude serious..what' with your gay ass pontoons?? it's not like you are landing the blade on water. do you have them because of your rough landings?

  • hi night Flyer i heard about the problem with the rtr version the dx6 had a malfunction i heard about woundet people too now i am worried about the rtr version should i buy it or should i buy the Storm 450 fiberglass edition..and a dx 6 seperatly...sorry for my english....your videos inspired me to fly helis thank you soo much...

  • couldn't have chosen worse music.

  • Smileyface on tail ball. =D

  • hey log time no talk.... i am thinking of getting the blade 400 the Plug n play version cuz i have the batt, the receiver, the transmitter... the transmitter is a 6 ch hitec radio and a 6 ch radio ... i fly perfectly my blade cx 2 and know since it is xmas soon i am gonna buy one but just wondering if u think it is a good heli for me.... i am in france so i cant get the other helis like ur favorite honeybee.....lol ttyl and also is it belt driven??? ttyl.!!!

  • What the hell are the floats for?

  • Blacklamass, Dave uses the floats to see better when his helis are in the air. I think it is a good idea as choppers such as the Blade 400 can get out of seeing range pretty quickly and the neon floats help to locate the heli............

  • i cant stop mine from spinning on the ground do i need to trim L/R new to it all

  • They do spin a little when winding up. You can do big adjustments at the servo by taking the screw out and re-aligning it. Medium adjustments can be made at the ball link at the back. The rest you do with the trim buttons on the radio. Do the servo adjustment after it's been on and cycled to its settling point.

  • Can you liftoff with very little control input if properly trimmed? I had a hard time having it come off the ground level.

  • getting one today... end of story

  • i love your video sirr!! and how do you dow loops and rolls with helicopter plz comment back

  • @ZzStev3NzZ Idle up - Pull back on Cyclic stick whilst adding some power /Collective pitch, at top of loop reduce the collective pitch slightly (to keep the shape) and fly it doun and out. Loops are easy when you remember what to do.

  • is the blade 400 better than the belt cp v2, or honey bee king 3?

  • @jjl5590 the part support will be a hell of a lot better for you also

  • where did you get those floats? did you make them?

  • Get you some good shooting gloves or the one size fits all black stretchy gloves from the dollar store, it helps and they don't throw the feel off .

I tryed to fly with ski gloves once, and had a good sized parts list to take to the hobby shop in the morning.

    Live and learn

Fly em, Crash em, Fix em.

Works for me, and Im doing my part to keep my freinds at the shop employed.

  • so this is rtf, no setting up pitches or balancing blades, just Velcro charge and fly?

    Thanks

    Great vid!

    Sam

  • How I envy you Mr Herbert, I picked up this hobby to release stress, after 1 year I still can't hover a honey bee (wrong choice?), still waiting for that "click" in my brain, probably too old, huh? Anyway I'll try your Heli Test Stand, wish me luck. Cheers

  • where do you get them pontoons

  • See my video, "Stealth Helicopters, you cant fly them if you cant see them". I show them and how to get them.

  • Hi i was wondering something,is they any battery you can get that will last maybe a hour worth of flight time? im thinking about getting in to this hobby but 10 min flight time seems restrictive.

Im planning on the; Walkera 6 CH 2.4GHz Walkera US Coast Guard Radio Remote Control Electric RC Helictoper RTF

i'll be getting it from Bananahobby.

sorry if this was posted 3 times, the first 2 didnt show up :(

  • Uhh...don't think so. Trust me, I've been flying for about 3 years now and 7-10 minutes per battery will be plenty of flight time. Your nerves and the heli's electronics will need a break by then anyway.

My batteries last 7 min each, and I have my timer set to 3 1/2 minutes for 2 flights per pack. I have 3 packs. More than enough for me.

  • @NightFlyyer

Even for beginners those pontoons might be handy for visual reference, eyesight or not.

  • i will say it again..i love your vids sir!!

  • Thanks kindly.

  • oh nvm just before 5:00 when he hit the throttle hold it did it

  • if the camera had a little faster fps than the blades would look like sickles

  • what is better, the blade 400 or the trex 450????????. i have my hb fp for 5 days now and can hover in all directions pretty good. i can fly in the figure 8 and do tight fast circles. thanks!

  • They are both good, but the Blade comes with the best radio. Glad you are progressing. What you describe takes years for most to be able to do.

  • @NightFlyyer definately! i've been flying electric RC Heli's for 6 months now, and have recently upgraded from the Blade CP+ to the B400 much sturdier and predictable bird. The radio is GREAT, however, I can hardly hover nose in at this point. much less within five days time.... love your vid's sir!

  • well you know it depends. T-rex's are way better, but it is a kit and doesn't come with a radio. The Align copter X se v2 is a lot cheaper and still really good. It is a full Aluminum head, but again it is a kit

  • Gday Dave. I have a Blade 400 on order. Flew fixed wing for several years...got married/kids/sold gear etc.

Getting back into the hobby. Also getting a LOT out of your vids.

May I please have your 9 tips PM'ed to me.

    Thanks.

  • On the way and great news.

  • i bhougt the helicopter too^^

its hard to lern flying with it^^

  • Yep, this is not a heli to learn on. I always say get a VW and if you never crash it, then get the Porsche.

  • u can fly pretty well^^

  • Thanks very kindly.

  • Dave, what are those orange puffy thingies on the skid? I'm trying to figure it out for myself, and I'm thinking they are floats....NO. Training gear....NO, a different version of skids? Doesn't make sense, but it looks neat. What are they?

    Chi (Shy)

  • See my video on "Stealth Helicopters, you cant fly them if you cant see them". I show how to make them easily and why I use them.Thanks.

  • Hey Dave, Aprox. how long of a flight time should I expect from the Blade 400 in normal flight mode doing pattern flying. I have had a nitro heli and a small electric. Nothing in the 400 size electric size though, and am getting the blade 400 in a week or so. Thanks, Jack.

  • I cant get more than 6 and 1/2 minutes out of mine and it must be landed, when in the 3d mode. You can get about 8 minutes on just regular flying. I always set my timer these days too.

  • They make raido warm bags for winter flying.

  • Yeah, I know. I just cant use them well. I have tried.

  • Thanks for all the work you 2 do in getting these videos out and on You tube. I am Getting my Blade 400 Friday. I thank you for making my selection easier. Well done. Great job.

  • Thanks Bill, I appreciate that. Good luck. Take your time and only watch the nose. LOL.

  • Only watch the nose? i havent heard that tip before. I guess it makes sense, can you explain?

    *i own a blade400 and love it*

  • Sure, your in the cockpit, and flying, you turn the nose left with the left stick not the tail, as it is backwards. Most people cant handle the tail and watch it, so have problems. The nose is where your going and the tail is hindsight. It will help you in the long run. Good luck.

  • So that only works with mounted camera's inside the cockpit.

Oh i think i get it, for when you're flying NOSE-IN, that makes sense, what a great tip.

    Thanks mate

  • I started with a co-comanche from E-Sky I'm now learning on a Collective pitch Helimax Axe CPv3. I'd like to get to a gas model but with the time I'm having with the Axe I feel I need one more in between. Is the Blade 400 the right choice? It looks like a complete package as I don't already have a real heli radio yet. Also the blade grip link arms on the Axe seem to break to easy. I grazed a box and snapped both arms off the grips with no damage to anything else. Is this a common weak point?

  • Well the Blade 400 is a real hotrod, but comes with a nice radio. If your never crashing anything, then it would be a good choice. No helicopters (real or models can take crashes). I don't know about it being a weak link, cause they will not break if you don't crash..

Read my 9 heli flying tips again and good luck.

  • @raisethepot If you want a Nitro Heli then just buy one. Get a simulator and practice. Then you will be ready for a bigger bird be it electric or Nitro. Bigger is way better and very stable when set up correctly. And you can fly them further away without putting pontoons on them and slowing them down.

  • Hi night flyer i have a blade cx2 and im pretty good wth It. I would like to step up to a btgger heli and i heard that the cp and the cp pro arent that good. do you think it would be wise for me to purchase a blade 400 i heard they handle better and they look to be built 100x better and is a better buy with the dx6i transmitter.

  • The blade is a great machine, But not for beginners, in my opinion. Tail rotors are a must to learn and this is not the machine to learn it on. I say learn on VW, and if you never crash that, then you can get the Porsche.

    Get a HB Mk3.

  • Hi Dave! In my opinion, the Blade 400 "is" a good step up from coaxials. It's much more stable than a Blade CP or similar Helis. I have both the Blade CP and the Blade 400. The 400 is much easier to hover. The computer radio allows the pilot to "tame the bird" which aids in learning to hover. Just my opinion.

  • I love my Blade also as you can see from my videos but after getting and flying my Blue Ray, I have found it actually an even better machine. It feels more solid in hover for some reason. Of course more mass is better with helis. I like big old heavy ones. Had a 35 lb Hughes once. I fly everything with my Spektrum and that sure is nice to be able to program in soft centers in pitch and throttle, as you know. Getting the B400 was great because of the radio that it came with for sure. Thanks.

  • @peetiepan Buy a sim and practice.... Learn the tail on the sim and depending what flying you want to do you will find it easier. I started with Raptor 30 was nose in hovering within a week and upgraded it to a 50 size in 3 weeks as the 30 was crap. After 6 months i got board of the power and bought an X-Cell Fury Extreme. Great for stability and my kind of flying. (I dont do 3d) but can fly inverted and stuff.

  • Hi night flyer i have picked up a blade 400 and have much experiance with other co-axels(im 14)I flew it and did sum nose in hovers, until the day arrived when i hit my tail boom and had it repaird,Ever since my blade 400 keeps yawing to the left,I tried trimming it but it still is yawing to the left. Please could you give me advice on what to do.Thnx

  • Bummer. First, dont practice nose in till you can fly around first. Second, make sure the tail belt is not slipping. Then adjust the length of the tail rotor servo pushrod so it pushes more air to the right, with the transmitter trim lever centered. Do not mess with the gyro settings as they wont change after a mechanical crash. Good luck.

  • Dave, I have a tip for the Blade 400. I added an additional boom mount for the rudder servo (like on a T-rex). Now the servo isn't partially mounted the frame. (Of course I had to shorten the pushrod) Now the rudder pitch is easily adjusted by loosening the servo mounts and sliding the servo as needed. BTW, use the 2 piece CNC servo mounts from an HDX and the tail boom doesn't have to be removed (kind of a pain). Just snip off the plastic E-flite mount.

  • wat does the gyro and throttle hold switch do? and wat is 3d flying in a helicopter? thanks

  • Gyros make the tail react faster to quick moves or gusts of wind that make it move faster than you can react with your fingers. It is not a magic bullet however. Throttle hold is done with 3d (3 Dimensional) stunt flying in the 3D mode and holds the motor at 95%, so you can vary the pitch for inverted etc. The other hold, cuts the motor to 10%, so you can practice dropping out of the sky like you would with a motor failure. Both sw's should not be used (if learning), as they cause crashes.

  • What about a mcx

  • Great choice too. Check out my MCX videos.

  • the mcx is def only an indoor heli...they are a blast for indoor use, but u should get a cx2 if you want something like that...for outdoor, a blade 400 is nice against the wind

  • Thanks, I agree and already have the B400. See my vids.

  • Thanks for the advice. My wife went to the hobby shop today to get a honeybee and was talked out of it by the owner. They suggested a Blade 400; does this sound like a good plan? I will definitely check out the nine heli tips but what do you think of the RADD school of thought? Your help is greatly appreciated.

  • I think that sounds like a good idea, the blade 400 is one good flying machine, prefere it too the honeybee king any day and does 3d right out of the box, the honeybee king doesn't perform as well the blade 400 thats for sure.

  • If a person does not know how to fly, I don't recommend learning on the Blade. This is a Porsche. Learn on a VW, if you don't crash that, then jump into the Porsche. The difference in price is about $300, so it doesn't surprise me the Hobby shop owner wants people to buy the Blade. See my latest Blade flight videos at Oldham to see it fly. If a person can keep up with that, then fine, but most dont even know what 3 D is, and will be a long way from using it, when learning.

  • Ok, thank you very much, blade cx2 sound good? for someone to start on, I started on that and now have a trex 500 electric, don't start on that, lol, one of my friends started on a trex 600 nitro, big mistake, crashed in first 2 minutes of flight, fixed it for him, please reply on what you think is the best heli for someone to start on, mine is the blade cx2, love your videos. one more alternative is realflight g4 or another sim maybe. Thanks.

  • Blade CX2 is a great machine to learn on. Thanks for the comments. Best heli to learn on is what you have, or the Honeybee series next. The Aerofly Simulator is still my best choice and most realistic for sims, but G4 is a good second choice. Good luck and keep it up.

  • he he, thank you very much, I have tried aerofly and also think thats very good to and also reflex xtr is good to, my friend has aerofly so I can test his, he also has reflex xtr. Have you seen that new heli e-flite has just brought out, its called blade mcx, its half the size of the cx2, its so small and available in rtf or bind n fly, looks good, thanks.

  • these are fantastic videos.. maybe some people could start out with the Porsche lol- but my question is- how fast do you think it will go straight forward? 15 mph? 25? ?

  • @NightFlyyer A blade is £205 including Tx!!! Its by no means a Porsche.. An X-Cell Tempest is a Porsche as the head alone is £400...

  • If you do not know how to fly, do not start to learn on the Blade. This is a Porsche. Learn on a VW, if you don't crash that, then jump into the Porsche. The difference in price is about $300, so it doesn't surprise me the Hobby shop owner wants you to get the Blade. See my latest video at Oldham to see it fly. If you can keep up with that.. I will send my tips in a PM.

  • We tracked it with radar at 64 mph one day, which is pretty fast. See my other videos on the blade 400 for more. All hobby shops try to sell you the Blade 400, as they are really good, but they are not good to learn on and Hobby shops love to sell parts. Learn on a VW, and if you never crash, then you can buy the Porsche. See my 9 heli flying tips for more and good luck.

  • Really like the videos, I have been flying a CX2 for a couple of weeks and feel like I need a bit more of a challenge, what would be a good heli to learn with next?

  • Thank you. I would start with a Esky honeybee fixed pitch or a CP2 and study my 9 heli flying tips.

  • DO YOU GET THOSE ORANGE THINKS?

  • See my Video on "Stealth Helicopters" to see how I made them.

  • Dude, you are hard core - I don't even leave the house when it's 10 degrees :)

Still trying to dial in my Blade 400, but maiden flights went well! It is a good helicopter :)

  • Ha ha. Good for you. Yep, Crazy Marines! Be patient and take your time with your Blade. It will come to you all of a sudden.

  • Yes one thing I think is important, and people could learn watching your videos and others - each heli is different, and if you want to learn to fly them really well, you have to try different ones, rather than getting locked-in to the style of one kind. I can fly any plane you want - even if I've never seen it before - because I understand their differences and similarities. That's why I got the B400 even though I have a T-rex. I want to fly helicopters, not just Trex 450s :)

  • Hello Dave, one of my biggest worries when flying is battery life. I can see by your video that watching flight times is very important although I noticed flight times can vary when flying hard or in 3D. Do you rely of flight times alone or are there other warning signs that you look for to know it's time to bring the heli in? Thank in advance for your help & thanks for the wonderful videos I do enjoy them. :) -Joe

  • Thanks. I would say the 6 minute limit, (use the timer on the transmitter) is the max. It gets sluggish and the tail will start wagging when it is too low and it must be landed immediately.

  • Hi Dave, just been watching your videos on the blade 400 again, and just wanted to know after triming your blade 400 do you have to trim it every time you fly it?as im going to pick one up tomorrow if they have one in stock at my local hobbie shop,so keep your fingers crossed lol.

  • No. This is a serious heli and radio, so it will stay, as long as you dont move the trim switches. Hope you get it, but be patient. This is a handful.

  • Thanks for the reply Dave, just charged the batt up and now it's started to rain, just my luck and i have got other helis.this is my seconed 3D helicopter as i have the mini pred 3D you call it the falcon in the usa.but i will still take my time and get use to the bird.

  • nice job keep up the good work. p.s. and awsome flying

  • Thanks very kindly. I appreciate that.

  • Fist timer note:

today I had time to make a two battery fly and man, I love the blade 400 even that I'm a beginner I have taking it slow its the 7th & 8th battery I've try to hover with the full power switch on manage hovered well and no hard landings, keeping in mind the negative pitch if you cross the mid stick of power, great day to fly to no hard wind to deal with, hope one of these days I'm able to tape my flights but when I'm ready. thanks Dave for the 9 finger tips, hard copy & studding.

  • Good for you. I am happy to hear you are progressing well. Keep up the good work. Thanks for your kind comments.

  • how long does the battery last?

and do you recomend this helicopter

  • I recommend this heli to only experienced heli pilots. See my 9 heli flying tips for more. Also it will fly safely in full 3d mode (motor wide open all the time) for no more than 6 1/2 minutes, which sounds short, but is quite a good bit of time when doing full on 3d aerobatics.

  • Dave, Love your tips and videos! I have a CX2 that I have gotten quite comfortable with. I also bought the realflight G4 in order to practice 3D helis. I intend to buy a blade 400 soon. What model in realflight is closest to the blade 400? Thus far there isn't a 400 in the sim (or is there?!) Thanks for your thoughts.

  • Thanks very kindly. Not many that close to the Blade 400 in real flight, however you might find something closer that you can download. I usually fly Aerofly and the 3Dee is the closest there, but I don't know about G4 anymore. Sorry.

  • Hey Dave do you know anywhere where i can download a night flyer model for fms, with all the lights and what not? ( mostly a night flying heli)

  • The only night flying stuff I have seen is in Real Flight. Which do you have? Knifeedge(.)com for real flight and Aerofly(.)com for Aerofly and FMS are places to download.

Careful of downloading viruses, as you saw in my last video, I did.

  • Thanks Dave, well i just have the FMS since i don't want to get anything too pricy.

  • dave where did you get those orange thing for your helicopter i want one or what else can i use

  • See my video on "Stealth Helicopters, you cant fly them if you cant see them". I show you how to make them.

  • thanxs

  • can you pm me your 9 heli tips dave? much appreciation ( what's pm stand for any way?)

  • Thanks, my tips are away in a PM..(Private Message)

  • Thanks Dave!

  • i only have 4 air hog 1s but this!

i wanna get me 1 of these they look so cool

    ty and nice vid

  • Thanks very much. You would be impressed with this. See my 5th flight video for more on this heli, and make sure to study my 9 heli tips to aid with your fun. See my comments below to apeeas too.

  • Isnt it hard to fly them?

  • If you are a beginner, you will think so. Get a simulator to learn the basic controls and start with a Fixed pitch etrm heli first. But if you are experienced, this is a blast. See my 5th flight video for more and study my 9 helicopter tips.

  • Yes, it is way more messy and noisy when I pull out the gas ones too.

This is easy. No plans for a DVD.

  • Pretty darn good!!! thats a nice heli. I have a Trex 450 which has been great so far...the Blade though looks a good deal though.

  • Thanks. Yep I love the radio it came with. See my Blade 400 video above for part III.

  • Still calling it throttle hold ? even when the tx says idle up ?. if it was throttle hold how can you change the headspeed ? :) just asking LOL. THanks for all the vids Dave. You are legend and I would not be flying today without your superb contribution.

  • Thanks.

My Spectrum 6i TX does not say Idle up anywhere! The switch on the right says Throttle hold/Gear but some people use that for auto rotates. I never ever use it, since the Spectrum also has a CUT MOTOR button for doing real autorotates, not using a cheater switch.

MY other switch (left side) is labeled

F MODE/Flaps. I programmed that switch to "only hold the throttle at 100%" (MAS technique), so that is why it is to me a throttle hold. I have been using the MAS Technique since 1977.

  • Thanks. I have PM'ed them to you.

  • thanks for the tips!!! thats all i do right now is hover at eye level! im pretty confident with my trimming abilities so far as i believe my pro is pretty well trimmed out!!! Nose in hovering is my next task to master that also being another world lol i was verry surprised to see that as i was reading your tips i found out that i was allready doing all of them lol non of my friends even know i have my cp yet haha thanks for the help

  • Dave could you pm them to me also as i cant seem to find them in your videos

    Many thanks

  • just wanted to say that i really enjoy watching your vids, im fairly new to flying helis!!! Bought a CX2 about 2mnths ago and fell in love with rc helis, ive moved up a notch and am now flying the Blade CP pro, two different worlds!!! can maintain a stable hover now!! only took me a few days and one set of blades haha ill stick with my cp pro for a few until i get me one of these bad boys!!!!!! look forward to it!

  • Good for you and thanks for the comments. CP Helicopters are a whole new world. DO you have my 9 helicopter flying tips?

  • dave what is the orange flots

  • My Pontoons are made from kid's swimming arm band floaties. One set for .99 will make 4. yellow or orange. See my video "Stealth Helicopters" to see how I made them.

  • Unical advertisement on the tail, nice touch. ;)

  • Ha ha. Yeah and it floats too. Good eye! Thanks.

  • know srry ran out of charaters

  • cool, i have a superbrain 977 charger it charges 2 of my 7 cells at once, so it only charges lipos one at a time right, well the reason i'm asking u is i bought a traxxas e-maxx and i want to convert it into a v-twin its 2 traxxas brushless motors, but i didnt know if i needed a specific charger for 3 cell lipos, ohh i did some research and found out u can but a lipo balancer for like 20- 50 $ i can charge the lipos throught my trx connectors and plug in that will charging i hope i really dont

  • hi dave, umm i wanted 2 know if u could do a lipo charging vid with ur triton charger right? if not can u or someone tell me how 2 charge 11.1v lipos on my superbrain 977 i know that it can i thought lipos charge like the eflite batteries u have that weird balence charge lead well good vid and were is that will it or wont it fly vid its killin me :]

  • If you don't want to balance the cells, you can charge right through the main battery line. But you can only do one 11.1 at a time. DO you have a Triton? It has to be set at lipo and then set the amperage that the battery is rated at and no higher. Then push the button and relax. It works great. Will it or wont it is getting close.

  • Thanks for another fun & educational video. I sure wish you'd bring back the "smaller video switcher" on your player. Because this video looked fuzzy in parts. Thanks Dave.

  • Thanks. I have nothing to do with the Smaller video switcher????

  • How do you do loops, like what do you do with the sticks?

    Nice loops!!!

  • Just like a plane, I reduce the throttle stick to the middle )at the top of the loop), thus giving zero pitch on the main blades and it follows around pretty nicely. As I come around to the bottom of the loop, I add more throttle to regain lift. Thanks for the comments.

  • Q: Do the pontoons interfere with flight dynamics and shorten flight times? Surely you'd get much more lift without them.

  • They are so light that it makes no difference that I can tell. Id rather be able to see it than it fly any faster. It climbs out about 10 times faster than my Honeybee with the floats, as you can see.

  • Dave,

You make it look easy. Braving the snow so wee can see your new toy, is well worth the price of admission.

    Thanks

    papadewey

  • Thanks very much. Come on in any time..bring gloves!

  • Thats a really nice heli you got there. I was wondering when we would get to see it fly. One question about the floats. I want to put a pair like that on my T-Rex 450 but will they allow me to land on water or are they strictly for orientation purposes?

  • orientation purposes only

  • Thanks kindly.

Mostly orientation for my old eyes these days, but it can actually land on snow too, without sinking in and the heli floats on water, as you may have seen in my other videos...like the First Electric heli, but water would splash up on the rx and speed control, and that would not be good. If I did not have the orange pontoons on it in this video, you know how hard it would be to see? They help a lot, and they make them in yellow too. See my "Stealth Helicopter" vid to make them.

  • Yes I made a pair following your instructions for my 450SE V2 heli and they really can make the difference between landing in one piece, or actually using the paper bag I take to the field with me lol. Was just curious because I am gonna be at the lake alot this summer between races and thought I might try some water landings. Thanks for the help once again:)

  • is that a good heli to fly after flying honeybee

  • If your flying the HB fixed pitch or CP2, you need to move to a belt driven tail as your next heli. If the high rotor speed of this does not intimidate you and you are flying (and never crashing) your HB, this is a good choice. The radio alone is a big plus, because separate receivers and servos can be used in other helis, with the same TX. Also, you need to be a bit coordinated, because this one needs constant attention to fly, but definitely goes where you point it with precision.

  • alright i will think of that

  • Nice heli and flight. You make it look easy!

  • Thanks kindly.

  • Well I'm looking at 2 deals. First is the B400 including: GY401 with 9650 tail servo, and 3 extra lipos for $385. The second is a Trex se v2 with DX7, GY401 and 9650, HS65MG servos, with 4 batteries, and a large carrying case for $900.

  • you flipped the IDLE UP switch not the THROTTLE HOLD throttle hold is for auto rotations and cuts the power but leaves the cyclic and collective under your control.

  • Yes maybe what newbies call it. In the beginning of r/c helicopters, there was ONLY a throttle hold switch which shut the throttle servo off, where ever you decided to hold it. I still call it a throttle hold, since that is basically what it does....holds the throttle at 85 percent allowing pitch changes only. Details, details!

  • A. the standered definition currently is that throttle hold is for throttle idle and collective use and idle up is for for power during negative collective. B. The throttle curve for a helicopter isnt a static 85% it could be governed to a certain rpm or the throttle % is reduced during areas of low pitch for if it wasnt it would over rev. JR and Futaba Radio systems also program there switchs for idle up and throttle hold.

  • By whose definition. We invented throttle hold switches I have 5 Helicopter radios from my collection that have the switch on top, clearly marked THROTTLE HOLD. We didn't ever have cheater switches like you have now. We had no gyros either, and no ccpm. We learned the hard way, with no crutches. I learned the MAS Technique. thats Pitch was always set 0 at center throttle, and the only thing the hold switch did was stop the throttle servo, wherever you had the stick. But this was 25 years ago.

  • @ uselessmidget, First off there is not IDLE UP switch on the DX6i. In the manual (pp 118-122) its called a"Flight Mode Switch" located on the top left side. It has two selectable curves for both Throttle and Pitch.0=Normal mode & 1=Stunt mode. In Throttle Hold switch on the right side of the radio is preprogrammed to a flat line power off. This switch can also be programmed for ANY % of throttle hold which can be used for 3D stunts. IDLE UP and THRO HOLD can be used for the same thing.

  • Well said! I have programed mine exactly like the MAS technique and your right, both can be used for Throttle hold switches. I think for beginners, there should be a std name we could adopt, since each can program that switch to his choice. Uselessmidget probably wont see this post, as it needs to be on his reply. None of this is pertainant to my vid. It's just a minor detail, he's trying to make a big deal out of.

I really appreciate your comments. Fly easy Captain.

  • Nice! I was checking weekly to see when you would take the maiden voyage. Looks smooth as butter in your hands.

Right now I'm split between the TRex 450 SE V2 and the Blade 400. Do you have any experience with the Trex? It costs roughly twice as much when made RTF but uses all CNC and carbon fiber. Man just not sure what to pick! I'm also LOVING my Honey Bee FP. Great way to start after flying the CX2. I totally recommend this path to and beginners.
