if you eat horse sourced from North America be advised you are likely eating a companion animal not raised for human consumption. The drugs the horse was given during it's lifetime were not tracked. These are well documented facts you should be aware of. Additionally, you should read the recent (July 2011) article from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention regarding deaths in France related to consumption of raw horse meat

@mispiperboo Yes, my spouse demands raw horse meat periodically and gets a breed grown in Italy for eating. (They look like draft horses.) We eat a lot of raw things here in France and I do try to warn people about not putting lemon juice on oysters, etc. Thanks for the comment. I have some American friends who visited me in the '90s and asked me to cook them cow brains, and yet they go donate blood for transfusion! They get offended when I tell them not to do that.
@fantana817 Mad cow disease. Anyone who ate beef at all in France in the '90s should never give blood for transfusion, but they can donate it for study/research with the clear statement that it's not suitable to go into another human. Also, if you've ever been with anyone who has had sex with a prostitute, that is another no no. This goes back to the '80s, I recall. I used to donate only for study.
Hey Lisa! Thanks for the video. I have never been big on raw meat as in steak tartar and I have never had horse meat. I will have to try it one day. When I started dating my first husband he took me to a super fancy restaurant and ordered steak tartar to try and impress me. Once it was served he just could not eat it. So, he asked that it be cooked for him. The waiter was so disgusted he told him to order a hamburger next time. Very funny. Have a great weekend!
@pastryparrot1 This is what happened to the Supremes! Mary knew to order chateaubriand and the two others ordered steak tartare and when it came, they said please take it back and cook it and it'll be okay. I really don't like raw beef, the horsemeat is fine but in very small quantity. xo
@shaveyourfingers Very thoughtful! Hee hee hee hee! My mother always used to say right off the bat, when people would ask her for advice, "Bathe regularly." Then she would just stare at them and smile. They usually got the message and quit pestering her. xo
@abyroj Much of the meat-eating world eats horse meat. There is a breed in Italy raised just for that. As long as animal welfare is observed, I have no problem with it. The people who criticize it like movies, and film is made with horse hooves. Thanks for the comment!
@mymovienerd What a nice suprise message! I grew up in Ohio with eggnog with raw egg for an after school snack, and that was my first venture into raw food. They do it a lot here in France and Genghis Khan ate raw horse meat and raw horse milk, so that is something to think about. Everything must be very clean when it is raw and it must be served in an appealing manner. I hope you visit France! We eat a lot raw here, kind of shocking for some. xoxoxoxo
@slobomotion I love my steak rare (I'm an American after all) but raw on it's own has a flavor that I'm not sure if I could easily get used to. I would try it if I ever get a chance, though.
@mymovienerd If you put a little lemon juice on it it actually kills a lotta buggies. I know it is hard for people to get used to, and I did get very bad food poisoning in 2000 so I totally understand all the health concerns, which are totally frigging valid. I had a visitor from England here about ten years ago and he was amazed at how much RAW we eat here in France but I said take it easy, add lemon juice. We must keep things super clean! I so miss US rare BBQ, egad, we rule in that!
Ya I plan to do that myself. I'm saving for a house on a half acre or so and I want to buy it with a big down payment then sell the condo and pay it off. I want 4 or 5 bedrooms which I plan to rent in an unusual way. Each room will have a rental fee plus a time obligation, maybe 15 minutes a day. I'll design a way for the roommates to select from a stack of available jobs they can do to knock out that obligation, and if they're short on cash they can put in more hours and get a rental discount.
That way I can avoid the nightmare of having a roommate or two that never clean up after themselves. Each area would be cleaned on a regular schedule. If a roommate was lazy he could slack off and just pay a bigger rental fee. There's have to be a way for the roommates to dispute a job if someone didn't do it well and if enough dispute it the credit is revoked. If someone can cook they could get time, say 1.5 or 2 hrs while those who eat kick in .5 or so.
It's like communal living only with numbers attached to make sure the rest of the roommates don't get taken advantage of. Even though I'll own the house I'll be part of the system as well
There will have to be a way for a job that is unpopular to increase in value if it isn't selected for a time. Like cleaning the chicken coop might increase to 2 or 3 hours if no one picks it for long enough (and since I'd be in the system, if no one picks it I can do it myself). An idea in progress
In a normal roommate situation you often get one person who does more cleaning than the others (for a while) then when they start to feel taken advantage of, they suddenly stop. Then the place turns into a pig sty. I've seen it. Putting numbers to the chores however should change the situation though. If the person who cleans is getting value in return (like a smaller rental fee) they there should be no resentment. The result should be a better living environment for everyone.
@vention4wh I'm setting up a commune in Brittany and people are so angry I am asking them what they bring to the table! They are just freeloaders. I need 100 to 300 thousand euros for people to even get in! A draft horse goes for 65 thousand, what are they thinking, it is easy street? I am from a long line of farmers and am of Amish extraction. A diary shows my ancestor paid 700 dollars for his horse in the 19th century, he only bought a second horse once in his life!
@peterknapp135 Send me the bill, I am listed. Um, my website cutecatfaith d com says who I am. My roots are Alsatian, I have been a French citizen since 1999, but I am Amish-type from Ohio and NYC, where I was a punk. xo
I think that is COMPLETELY terrible and disgusting to eat a horse! Do you realize that? Eating a beautiful, gorgeous creature. Luckily it's ILLEGAL to eat a horse in my state and country--the US. I'd rather starve than eat horse meat..no offense at all.
@TheEquestrianJumper I am a horse lover & I know this issue is very sensitive to people. What I did not tolerate was a horsemeat vendor here who proudly showed me a box of American mustang. If the horses are the breeds raised for meat only, okay, but I advise everyone to kill an animal themselves & pluck or gut it & they will eat way less meat. We seldom eat chicken, BTW. Factory farming is horrendous. We eat an Italian horse breed, they are raised only as meat.
@slobomotion Glad you like horses aswell. And thanks for only eating certain types of horses. Cause just so you know, all types of horses-even foals, are being killed right now. Sad to think but it's ok I guess. And that's cool.
@TheEquestrianJumper My spouse asks for horse meat a few times per year. I have some vids up of the tulip festival here in 2010 and in A LEG AT EACH CORNER and some other vids, I show a great horse charity here. They rescue animals and offer riding at super low rates to families who subscribe. The horses were beautifully treated and not overworked for the "horsie rides," which I took one of, like a kid, ha ha! A low meat intake I think is best, people have to remember these are sentient.
@TheEquestrianJumper I forget the non-profit's name but they not only rescue abused horses, they have a family regional riding center and equine welfare for their horse riding thing at the tulip fest seemed to be a class act. I put up a bunch of vids about them and they eventually saw them and said thanks. I wanted to lease a retiree at my local riding center so it could stay with its pals and just have one "owner" but my family here reneged on the deal.
Back in England in the last century 1950s horse meat was sold as a delicacy...i couldnt eat it but of course we do eat many other animals ...thanks for this Lisa its very interesting...
@earthvisitor3 Interesting to note! My spouse likes it. People should kill an animal, dress it, and then, they will eat way less meat. Ditto fish, I hate when people say they have no feelings, even trees are sentient. I did this at the last minute. Wasn't well thought out, but hey. Did you hear about those Brits who sued some Germans a decade ago when the boy went to do foreign exchange? The Germans wanted a nice meal, gave horse, and the Brit family SUED? Egad.
I guess everyone to theor own taste and even veggies eat veggie food which was once a living thing...i often chat to plants and trees and bushes and they move at times even without any breeze...well i do like you vids and you have so many that it takes ages to sift thru all of them...ive just had fillet fresh cod with mashed spuds and mushy peas mmmmm lovely jubbly ...
Not heard that about the boy in Germany and crikey the lad must have almost died
@earthvisitor3 Yeah, parents upset, but boy fine! But very upset AFTER the lawsuit & all. It would have been best for the parents to speak quietly. I keep hearing about mushy peas & how Brits love them. Are these pureed split dried peas? The Brits get all dewy eyed about them, it is so nice to see & hear. It seems to be a pleasant comfort food? I have seen trees dance & heard them sing, but that is another matter. In fact, plants when dry do cry out, their cells are collapsing.
Mushy peas are just that peas mashed up and they`re wonderful and go well with any food..look up online and you will see more infact there might even be a vid on Tube lol...
Yes i know about trees dancing and crying and making all types of noises and plants..its so wonderful..
@earthvisitor3 Fancy French ladies in the past had hot fresh peas served to them with a little butter in their rooms before retiring for the night, as a nightcap! Peas rock! I saw the trees very afraid before Christmas, 1999 and the day after Christmas we had two tornadoes here and over 300 million of them died. The animals were "frozen" here for a few days before, also. I will never forget the first time I heard the trees sing. It is like opera!
@earthvisitor3 Yes, I am from Ohio and we are used to tornadoes which are terrifying. We had two in France in 1999 the day after Xmas and no one was ready. Many ran out to move their cars and got crushed. When I saw that orange sky, saw the funnel clouds and heard that howling, I panicked, opened all the windows and woke up my spouse. @earthvisitor3 Where I come from, we are taught how to deal with it better. My spouse seemed upset I was opening the windows, but in a tornado, you have to be prepared for the interior to be trashed but the building & roof stay on if you OPEN UP. Everyone here closed the shutters & WHOOSH their roofs blew off & worse! People don't understand, a feather can be like a bullet to you in that! You have to duck. My husband's granny used to get under the big table & everyone laughed at her.
you know in all the times ive been over in the States i have never experienced a tornado or any other kind of weather like that however as i did write previously the hurricane we had in 1987 was terrible and ripped roofs off and blew cars over and nobody was ready for such an event...makes me wonder what we are all going to do with this Comet on 15/16 March which is supposed to destroy the Earth?
