  • Even though I think it's kinds sexist it's pretty catchy

  • Haley mills is like a completely different person in the parent trap. This is a little creepy because I'm so used to watching the parent trap I like her better in that movie even tho I haven't seen this one I just know and this seems kinda sexist

  • When I was a ,*kid.

  • I had this song on a 45 when I was a jus in the 70's, and my mother was a wimmens' libber so it was enjoyed with a note of sarcasm. Now I just enjoy it at face value. These girls are showing this young one how to use her feminine charms.

  • Well..lol..if it was sung in today's movies it would definetly be considered sexist, however this film was made in older times (60s??) and most women didn't work, thought marriage was the best they could do really..ahh well my opinion really.

  • ...I'm a little worried by all the positive comments on this video :/ I find it all a bit sexist really

  • Does no one get the joke? "Hide the real you"? It's sarcastic, which is why it's such a fantastic song. "Let him do the talking.... laugh, but not loudly..." etc. It's basically saying, lie to yourself and others, and you'll catch a man.

  • This is a lovely scene indeed . Loveliness ,gentleness ,charm and love have all gone with infamous feminism. Today women are defiled ,rotten ,rude ,bossy ,whores .They're so disgusting , so unbearable that it makes me feel ashame to belong to that spoiled gender today.

Our eyes and ears are filled with ROT. It's too much ,really too much.

  • This is a very lovely scene. I love Walt Disney movies!

  • lol.. this is so fucking scary, but true

  • They can't be serious...can they?

  • In the early movies - Tiger Bay, Whistle down the Wind, Parent Trap and this one - Hayley was indeed very pretty.

  • what became of theother 2 equallly-lovely actresses?

  • Will sombody post this movie on YouTube?? That would be so awesome!!!! Let me know please!!! Thanks

  • wow there's my childhood haha. I love the Summer Magic movie. I actually have it on VHS. if someone could tell me how to upload it to youtube, i'd be happy to

  • I was 13 when I saw this in the theater. I had the biggest crush on Haley Mills. It took a couple of days for this scene to get out of my head. Yep, I thought Haley was the sweetest thing on film.

  • @vinyltiger Hayley was beautiful as child/teenager, as well very talented actress, can see what was appealing and she's old enough to be my mother Lol.

  • @vinyltiger She was indeed one of the sweetest things in film. I thought that Annette was too.

  • @vinyltiger me too

  • I was 13 when I saw this in the theater. I had the biggest crush on Haley Mills. It took a couple of days for this scene to get out of my head. Yep, I thought Haley was the sweetest thing on film.

  • It's hard to tell, but I really hope she is being sarcastic.

  • @TheEasilyObsessed -Not sarcasm. The movie was made in 1963 some years before our present notion of how a liberated female should behave. Look at the costumes. The movie was set in a time before they even had electricity. Probably the early 1900's. Women didn't even have the right to vote yet. No, not sarcasm. They were honestly trying to teach her how to get ahead in their world not ours.

  • I don't understand some comments on how this is suppose to be a pro femininity type of thing or the people who think this is anti-feminist. She seems to be mocking the whole idea of femininity, like, look how stupid this is. I haven't seen the movie, but at one point she rolls her eyes and someone made the comment on how she's wearing pants while singing it...

  • Yes.... a woman must hide her true self to snag a man.

  • I wish I could find the original backing track :(

  • I can not believe I have never seen this? Crazy!

  • @Lacquerandlace When being a girl was so fun and being feminine was part of being a girl. I don't care what they say, men still like femininity!

  • I'm curious to hear how this compairs to the bend and snap in Legally Blond.

  • Is she saying "Complement (with an E) his masculinity" as in "complete him" -- or "Compliment (with an I) his masculinity" as in "praise him"?

  • @musicaltheatergeek79 I believe that she is saying "compliment" as in "praise him".

  • @LoreneFaith I wasn't sure 'cause it could work both ways. You know, when someone tells you, for example, "That necklace complements your shirt," in other words, they go well together. So if her femininity complements his masculinity, they're a good match.

  • I find it funny how people are making feminist comments. This movie takes place in the victorian era what do you expect a song about how women are on the rise. I don't think it would have fit into the plot. also don't forget the Votes for Women Song in Mary Poppins, disney isn't as sexist as people would like to think.

  • This was the old ideal, the movie takes place back in the victorian era. I think Disney probably needed a song to even the movie out and what song would be better then a song that expresses the mind set of the era it takes place in. Also the Irony of the song is that it's a song about being feminine and they are young, even the oldest one is still a teen right? The truth behind the song is that the characters really know nothing about catching a beau.

  • @charlamain2209 plus Hailey mills is in pants, not very feminine is it?

  • "plus Hailey mills is in pants, not very feminine is it? "

@charlamain2209 haha, I know, right? She's singing that you must "look and act feminine" and yet she's wearing trousers. :-D

  • @musicaltheatergeek79 cool your into theater too! I recently Got my bachelors in theater? Are you a theater major/graduate. If so I'd love to swap resources for finding a job?

  • Where can I find a feminine woman today ? If one still exist I'll marry her. If not I will never get married.

  • Those waist high pants aren't very feminine. Burn her! She's a witch!

  • @ LoreneFaith I agree they should stop making remakes, even the ones involving Disney theme park attractions (PotC). And Linsdey shoud've not replaced Jodie Foster for the remake for Freaky Friday, either but somebody had to find a replacement.

  • @avickers1992 Jodie Foster is another actress who is irreplaceable. I grew up seeing her in films since she was very young. Lindsey is a loser.

  • @avickers1992 I liked Lindsey's version and I'd probably like the Jodie Foster Version if i ever could find it. The Lindsey version was more up to date so the younger audience could connect with it. They keep the older versions on the shelves because whenever they make a remake the origional version can usually be found on DVD because they think that if the adults watch the new version with their kids they'll go back to the old version and watch it with their kids.

  • Hayley Mills is so lovely! I love this and The Parent Trap (not the Lindsey lohan one).

  • @avickers1992 The lindsey lohan one is a joke. I wish they would stop remaking classic films. No one can replace Hayley.

  • I'm trying to figure out who the girl in the braids is. what is he character. Is she the one they are talking about in "Pink of Perfection"?

  • @charlamain2209 The "Pink of Perfection" girl is the red head.

  • @LoreneFaith thank you!

  • @charlamain2209 she is the daughter of Mr. Poppum and is in love with Hayley Mills's characters brother, Gilly

  • @Theatrechick7987 okay cool! Is gilly the red head that plays the piano?

  • @charlamain2209 yep :)

  • I'm not going to rant my opinion, I'm just saying, my boyfriend will NEVER, EVER, EVER find this clip. For as long as I live (:

  • What I find so ironic is that when I was a little 'boy', one of my fondest fantasies was to be forceably crossdressed by Haley Mills then have her whack me various places with a ruler while commanding me to act as feminine as possible.

  • Would somebody please upload/post a karaoke/instrumental version of this!? Heck, even a crude first generation MIDI would be better than naught.

  • This clip so doesn't, in my humble opinion, tell a girl how to be happy or fulfilled. There's no point in 'hiding the real you' in order to 'catch' a beau! A husband is (meant to be) permanent! That's like hiding a part of you for life lest anyone see it! I don't agree with plastic surgery, but this is just as bad. This tells women that their personality is not only wrong, but unattractive. How can a person be fulfilled when they must trash their individuality & conform to one specific standard?

  • @MeandmySara This was the old ideal, the movie takes place back in the victorian era.

  • I love how freaking sexist this song is. :P

  • So whatta ya do with the beau once you catch him? Is stuffing and mounting acceptable?

  • @ZaynahZihoa There are very few out there that I would want to stuff and mount and have to look at all the time, but it is a great idea!

  • @LoreneFaith No-one said you had to keep him after, that's what Ebay is for.

  • I love how people are bashing this song and saying :Hide the real you" is wrong and yet we live in a world where Boob jobs nips and tucks are everywhere. Dont you people thinks they are the same thing? Only difference is 1 is outward appeal the other is inner. Atleast this movie in the end tells you to BE YOURSELF wheres that message at the end of nip/tuck and those shows? (And this is all coming from a 19yr old, so there lol)

  • @Monkeeperson You are a very insightful 19 year old and I totally agree with you. Too many modern women are just fooling themselves about how real they are around men.

  • @Monkeeperson I say too that this "hide the real you" is wrong. Also all these boob jobs etc. These girls are just 1960's version of those doing boob jobs etc. today. Nip/tuck sucks. This cartoon too.

True femininity shouldn't be learned or made anyhow. It should come from inside.

  • @WhatIsFemininity yes it should and at the end of this movie it tells you that. Watch Summer Magic. The end says its better to just be yourself than try to hide who you really are. This Movie is GREAT and has a great message, you just didnt get the whole message.

  • @Monkeeperson * movie not cartoon, sorry.

  • I loved this film growing up......and you know what we still do this. Lets face it girls we all do.....time haven't changed and after 3 months of dating we can then slob out.

This bit always made me chuckle it's a good song

  • @Sarcasticyetsexygeek You are so right. Women are just fooling themselves if they think that it still isn't about attracting men for most of the females out there. What has changed is that women have more options now and that is a good thing.

  • oh god... after watching this I want to puke... that song and movie is sooo stupid! Girls or women don't have to be like that. They don't have to let men do the talking. Hell, they don't have to laugh at their jokes! I have two words for this "feminity": pethetic bullshit!

  • I think this song isn't against feminism because they are really making fun about boys. If the italian version of this song is like the original, there's a sentence that say something like "you have to smile, ahah, when he say a joke"... I think it's hilarious how they make fun on men's pride. I agree that it's an old way to charming men, but it's not so offensive for women, accord to me!

  • @laluz31 I totally agree with your insight.

  • @laluz31 they sing you must laugh but not too loud/ let him do the talking. So its pretty fing sexist towards women, but yeah maybe it is all a big joke

  • i love this movie! When i was sick last month in bed, my mom put this movie in for me, i fell in love with it! I was already a fan of Pollyana,

  • This is disgusting and disturbing.

  • @skidoodlydoo To the modern mind

  • I do not like Hayley Mills' voice. :\

  • @kvcavin1 I adore Hayley Mills voice. It is so unique and was part of what makes her so fantastic. I could listen to her talk all day!

  • They should be introduced to "Bye-Um-Pum-Pum".

  • I'm tripping. It's literally been 40 years since i saw this scene.

  • @wrybreadspread Glad I could bring back memories. :) YouTube is great for that!

  • Wasn't this a satire even? why are people freaking out?

  • "Hide the real you"...? That's no way for anyone to behave in a relationship if you expect to get anything out of it.

  • why did a lot of songs from this time period have the girls singing vaguely British-esque, but that sounds really weird... there's just something about these old movies where the girls' voices sound... different from now.

  • @CathyLuvsLipGloss Now they all sound the same.

  • @CathyLuvsLipGloss They all were trained to use a Mid-Atlantic accent.

  • @CathyLuvsLipGloss Hayley Mills is an English actress from England.

  • Drama much, guys? Women like to attract men. Get over it. We ALL hide parts of ourselves when we're flirting and at least feminity back THEN used to be pure and sweet. Today being 'feminine' is either being an extreme slut, or shutting up and taking hits. At least they're singing about how you're supposed to BEHAVE like a normal person. Yeesh.

  • @PeppermintGlow I totally agree! Well said!

  • @PeppermintGlow In fairness though... it's the sort of song guys WILL say is exactly what they were thinking 'KEEP THE GIRL IN HER PLACE'

  • @EyeofKraid Keilah, be quiet lol xD If a guy is going to 'keep you in your place,' you're quite simply in a relationship with the wrong person.

  • @PeppermintGlow your comment deserves to be put up in neon lights. It's a heckuva thing that after a century of feminism, not a freakin' thing seems to have changed in regards to women being objectified...or abused. I would love to be proven wrong.

  • it's a cute song and i liked it when i was little but it is a bit silly and "keep the girls in their place" sounding, still cute though, have it on one of those disney classics cd's, i dont know that i'd call it disgusting but, especially in today's world, it's a bit silly for a number of reasons

  • @kassie2k4 It was not in today's world and I think that those who lived in that time period would think many of the things we do now as silly.

  • Feminist comments are funny. Also retarded. Come on, there is nothing wrong with this song. =.= There isn't anything wrong with being feminine, plus, men tend to like feminine girls, I mean come on, won't girls prefer a guy who is more masculine than feminine? =.= I am a girl. I find feminists annoying hypocrites.

  • @EmberWolfe1992 That's right, resort to using ableist language ("retarded," anyone?) to describe feminists. And the point is that you shouldn't HAVE to do what men like. Be yourself... and that's the exact antithesis of this video. I am a girl, and I find you an uneducated cretin... based on this comment, anyway.

  • @largeposterior08 Lol. Don't get your panties in a knot. I've got nothing wrong with girls being themselves, please read my comment before you reply. TYVM.

  • ah socialization at work :)

  • I'm a tomboyish girl and I just think this song is funny, people should lighten up, times have changed, but this is how things once were, it's not preaching to current society but portraying one. Girls being ultra feminine is a point of view that still exists for some people, but it doesn't have to for everyone. I don't agree with the lyrics but I still think it's a funny song to sing anyway so I like it haha. ^_^

  • These girls are IN on the ruse, c'mon straght men are just dumb when it comes to women today and yesterday!

  • Having a professional acting career involves alot of hiding the real you and knowing when to utilize the acting or bring in the real you. Hide, could = Protect Why lay all the cards on the table. If it's a guy you don't know well, he dosen't get access to all of the real you yet, your powerful and not vulnerable. I give a positive to the word "hide" instead of a negative, it's how I want to utilize that word. Men have their own issues unique to them in hoping to compliment your femininity.

  • 1963 very interesting time in American history, civil rights in revolution. A president making a difference was lost. Many old views were clung to as new ones tried to move in. But in the end it all depends on how you want to view this piece, enjoy it for the music, if you wanted to be a professional model you might practice with a book on your head. Utilize, act, powerful words if aiming for what you want, your dreams with what you are and your talents. To Catch, A catcher is the one in power?

  • Ah Hayley Mills the proto-disney channel darling. they made her sing in all her movies. Not that she wasn't tone deaf or anything, she;s just so...meh

  • @meghanthepirate From one pirate to another, I agree. "Let him do the talking". There's nothing wrong with being feminine as such, but this video is basically telling girls to "Shut up and be pretty". The issue here is not about dressing up and looking pretty, that's excellent by me, it's just the implication that in order to be interesting to men, a woman can't be herself, must "trick" a guy into marrying her, as if she herself were not enough to warrant a relationship.

  • Hello, all. I remember this delightful movie. Please. How is encouraging young ladies (I have 2 daughters) to dress attractively and groom themselves "bigoted?" I teach my children that all human beings, regardless of color, creed or gender, should be viewed as valuable individuals and treated with respect. Peace to All.

  • @mjcamck71 I am glad that you are teaching your daughters to be attractive. There is nothing wrong with that and being a woman is something that is an asset not a determent.

  • @meghanthepirate get over yourself and shut up and enjoy the video...if you think its disgusting please be sure to contact the walt disney company and complain to them

  • @meghanthepirate I think the fact that now women look and act like a bunch of whores is what is really disgusting and sad.

  • @LoreneFaith agreed

  • @LoreneFaith I'm on your side with this. I'm a feminist and there is nothing wrong with women being feminine, however it is wrong that people act like the body is nothing more than a tool and if anything dressing like a whore is certainly more of using the body than this is. Not only is this song fine but they even say in it "Hide the real you" this song is not seriously telling all women to be like this. That is like claiming Be Prepared is inappropriate because it has negative lyrics.

  • @meghanthepirate I think it is more obvious now. Now girls get boob jobs etc...to entice men. Women still "hide the real you". Nothing has changed at all. Now women are just more vulgar about it!

  • I love feminine girls.

  • @envelope91 I love being a feminine girl :) It is not to attract a man, it is just because I love it for myself.

  • @LoreneFaith

Sounds good, but i would still probably love you.

  • @envelope91 Love is a good thing :)

  • Why should a woman be responsible for attracting a man?

  • I actually liked how it used to be in the old days.

  • @hellbent18 Me too! I love all of the pretty dresses, gloves, hats, and curls in your hair.

  • Sadly, not much has changed. This sexist objectification of self is still being taught, just in a more subversive way. A lot of these comments make me cringe. Equality now - think about the ramifications of this type of stereotyping before you decide on how "adorable" is it.

  • HIDE...the real you! hahaha this song is a laugh.

  • @heidistevenson lol that's my favorite part! hahahaha :)

  • I find this song utterly adorable - how nice it would be to see more women act this way, but as long as we are not viewed as the weaker sex as they did back then.

  • femwhat

  • eek! those pants are awfully unflattering!

  • Oh my how times have changed...and definitely for the better!

  • @halseyam Oh yes, now women will actually change their bodies to attract men with boob jobs, lip shots, botox, etc....

  • Nancy : "...but you said that you should always keep a man waiting."

Julia: "Oh, Nancy, you'll understand one day."

  • SOMTIN AMERICAN WOMEN HAV COMPLETELY LOST

  • @cringo123 Sad but true with many women.

  • @cringo123 apparently, some americans have forgot spelling as well

  • @lordxenu666 FOCK U! YOU CAN CORRECT THAT SPELLING FOR ME.

  • hide the real you hahah

so many women underestimate the power of being mysterious..it ignites a man's imagination and makes him all more interested

  • @MsCasati I agree with you. Women now show it all and say it all. A truly feminine woman is a powerful woman.

  • @unlikeanyotherhuman There is a difference between being rough and tough. Women back then were a whole lot tougher than you think. Many had inner strength which every body needs. I don't know if women are tougher than men today. There are certainly girls with other ambitions than just attracting men though!

  • camps as my 'new' yet true self, I would proudly declare that it was I! "Yes, Men! I was the one who sold out all of malehood" JUST for the privilege of being ALLOWED to EARN my place as an (at first) honorary girl (then after excelling at FEMININITY during my probationary period) a certified true girl! And that not only did I not do it for any expected 'male' reward but that my anatomical correction was decided to be part of my reward back when I first waved the white (satin with lace!) flag!

  • by Femalehood to swiftly win the war and conquer Malehood! And that even when I really thought I would not fully transition M-to-F, I would be and have been proud to be credited with my intel collection as me having happily and voluntarily selling out the entirety of my birth gender for but only one reward (and all the males in the prison camps would be thinking and saying it was so I could be the only free male and be able to provide procreation needs, but -> NOT!) And as I would tour the...

  • By the way, I love your name/user ID. Lorene Faith. I think if it were not already taken, I'd adopt it. But then again, had it not already been taken I would have never heard it in the first place. Are you a writer? Would it bother you if I changed the spelling a bit and took that name as my pen name for writing/poetry/publishing purposes outside of Youtube? Perhaps: Loraign Faithe, Laurene Faith, Lerhein Faith, Laraine Faith, Lourene Faith, Laureen Fayth...thats the one! LAUREEN FAYTH! ....

  • @pinkpriss It is mine, all mine! My Mother named me so! I am glad that you like it though :)

  • I have made this my life theme song!

  • @pinkpriss Glad to hear that. Nothing better than a girl who loves being a girl.

  • @LoreneFaith I shall make you and all feminihood proud! I shall gracefully grasp the glorious gauntlet of girlhood! I shall wear and OWN my femininity with the zeal, devotion, loyalty, pride and conviction that a young male hoodlum might wear and own biker gang colors!...that a seasoned circus clown might wear and own his/her bulbous red rubber nose...that a licensed pesticide applicator might wear chemically protective safety clothing...uh, wait...I don't know about that last one...

  • @pinkpriss Very good! Wear it proudly for all to see! Especially manhood!

  • @LoreneFaith Bank on it Grrlfriend! Since my early teen years, I have embraced the contention (and have never held back voicing it when/where I thought it would be met with recognition of its significance.) that if there were ever a war between the two most common genders. I would have been (and still would) the first to run with a white flag to the nearest female outpost and beg to be allowed to serve as a double agent, putting my life on the line to gather the strategic intelligence needed...

  • my absolute favorite movie ever!!!

  • @givemepoetry I actually completely disagree, okay yes take advantage of your femininity but feminism is about empowering yourself as a female and not having so much restrictions as a women.. things like "let him do all the talking, or sigh feminine, or laugh but not too loud, or act feminine so it could compliment his masculinity!" I mean come on! I know things have definitely changed in present time but I dont believe this is what you would call feminism! ..Not attacking you or anything haha

  • I like this song!

  • @kelke4 Me too :)

  • hide the real you ..lol

  • @xhen12 I think everyone does that, don't you :)

  • @LoreneFaith Not really, maybe thats why im not that feminine..who knows

  • omg...

  • Hayley Mills rolled her sleeves up. Hayley Mills was slapped across her face. Hayley Mills was tied up. Wooooo!!!!!! YAYness :) Hot!!!

  • I wish those pretty underclothes still existed! I love Hayley Mills and this song.

  • @mykelao That is one thing I loved when I was doing civil war reenacting. Being able to wear all the pretty underclothes, petticoats, pantelettes, etc....

I love to wear the hats and gloves too!

  • @mykelao You can buy them on lolita clothing websites :)

  • I'm pretty sure this is supposed to be slightly sarcastic. Hayley Mills sings the entire song in pants, and they have that line about hiding "the real you." Before we all laud the benefits of strict gender roles, we should consider that this could actually be a little bit of a commentary on "femininity".

  • @kp1832 interesting ...probably true.

  • This song is so inpsiring and helpful. Thank you so much for posting it!

  • @zeldagirl7491 I am so glad that the video is inspiring to you. Thanks for letting me know :)

  • I strive to be as feminine as possible in every way and at all times but not to get a boy! I do it just because I enjoy how it makes me feel and when I am all dressed up, it ensures that I easily pass as a girl!

  • @pinkpriss I am glad to hear that you are feminine because you want to be and that you enjoy being a woman.

  • @LoreneFaith Dear One! It turns out I was in denial and I recently had the pleasure and epiphany of finding out that I love being held, caressed and kissed by strong, handsome, manly men! Your posting of this video steered me to that revelation and I am eternally grateful to you! All of a sudden, EVERYTHING in my life makes sense, from the fact that the.few times I have tried I have been unable to 'please' girls (even get aroused!), to my gnawing life-long dilemma of my gender & sexuality (cont)

  • @pinkpriss I am really glad to hear that this little video has helped you to realize who you really are and what will make you happy and fulfilled. So glad I could be a small part of that. Thanks for letting me know. Cheers To Femininity!

  • @LoreneFaith I made an appointment with my doctor to finally begin acting on what I deep down always knew was the truth within. Never in my life have I felt so infused with delightful
