Make it into a positive experience for him. Start by touching his mouth and getting him used to the taste of the toothpaste - always talk in a happy voice and give lots of yummy treats. Only do it for a few seconds - end on a positive note and keep the dog wanting more. Slowly work your way up to using the toothbrush for a few swipes across the teeth - again always stopping before the dog starts getting squirmy. Reward and praise good behavior. It's a slow process, but make it fun and positive!
Aww, he's great! I love dobermans and am planning on getting one some time next year- I'll make sure to brush his teeth! ;) Speaking of 'his', I'm debating male vs. female at the moment, and am wondering if you have any thoughts. Also, how'd the ear cropping (err..rather ear -posting- to be more specific) go? How long did they take to stand? I'm debating getting the ears cropped aswell. Any advice is appreciated! If you'd prefer you could send me a message. Thanks so much and kiss Red for me! :)
Haha! Beef-flavoured toothpaste. :) I really like watching this, because it's clear you and the dog have a tight bond, and you know what you're doing.
Our dobermans name is Red too!!! We got a 7 week old puppy Friday. He is rust colored so we named him Red. :)

Thanks! He's really good for it - same for nail trimming and ear cleaning. He gets yummy treats for being a good boy.
