  • 9 people are low-lifed music haters

  • yall are a college. yall should be playing harder stuff. this suck

  • this reminds me off "drumline", all black, purple and yellow, and they play random rudiments

  • Ewww Corps

  • oh shiiiiitt

  • people, before you say mean things or overly critical things, i hope you can at least appreciate the fact that they are playing together and producing something really awesome together..music! + the uniforms are pretty sweet..

  • Please stop staring at your drum.

You're supposed to be at attention.

Looking anywhere else but 10 degrees above the horizon isn't attention, is it now?

  • sick other drum stickings at :45

  • Everybody wants to be MDFS......

Thanks to al the HBCU schools who want to beat our MDFS- NSU

    OG-MDFS

  • Yep it's me...the line is nice. I can't rag on your boys, what they are playing is played clean. No need trying to get crazy and risk sounding like crap, not to mention they look like they have some class as well.

  • I can't down these cats because they are not bad...

  • @NSUMDFS Yeah now that wouldn't be nice would it? Is the THE "NSUMDFS" from the 5th?

  • @NSUMDFS I agree

  • famu wudda murked em man. just cause someone go to a band camp dnt mean nothin be there whn they be practicing to play at big shows like superbowl half times them boys at famu put in work i kno i was a music major at famu.

  • I'm a African-American guy and i go to a school corps style band. And i try SO hard to like the HBCU/Show style drumming I even went to FAMU"s band camp this year. But that crap was so EASY(music wise)! The only intresting thing about the show style playing is those little stick flips they like to do and the hip hop songs the bands play and dance too. And they funny part is that a DCI or corps style college drumline and play all that stuff too. But i'd like to see a HBCU band play at 210 bpm.

  • @bigpimpin2736 Check out the Norfolk State Spartan Legion and Bethune Cookman

  • @bigpimpin2736 dude of course the cadences are easy. they are easy because they have been handed down to them since the schools first got them back when the school first had a band and this was back when there was only 26 drum rudiments so they didnt have much to work with back in those days. and since HBCU's are all about tradition they kept those cadence and each generation of people that join these different lines play whatever cadences they have. and playing fast doesnt mean a thing.

  • @TheDragonmaster18 . You must not know how many years ago rudiments were created, like back in colonial times. Not having much to work with isin't an excuse. And for the most part HBCUs play grooves 24/7

  • @bigpimpin2736 i know its not an excuse. all im saying is that not every drumline has to play hybrids and what not. just because it isnt hard doesnt mean its not good. i dont know if you noticed but HBCU bands play what the audience wants to hear and do what the audience wants to see. its been that way since HBCU's had their band programs. and you have to admit that this druline is actually good. they are actually good. and the reason why they play grooves is so the audience can get involved.

  • @TheDragonmaster18 I feel you on the wanting to get the crowd involved. But there is also the musical aspect of drumming. If you're going to have 15 snares (FAMU) then all of them SHOULD be clean. But that is not the case with the majority of HBCU drumlines. If the beats they play are easy then there is no reason for it not to be clean.

  • @bigpimpin2736 well you have to admit that albany state's drumline is pretty clean especially for a HBCU line. and FAMU is actually for the type of technique they use. their snares use the mollar technique also known as monkey sticking and it is very hard to have a snareline to play perfect using that technique. and besides its not like they're trying to impress judges. remember they're playing for a crowd that knows nothing about band. but i feel on being clean to.

  • @TheDragonmaster18 Clean is best.

Tenors need to be clean that litle solo they had was very dirty.

  • @bigpimpin2736 yes clean is best but remember these guys didnt go to school for drums. band is leisure time for them. so if its a little dirty who cares. also not everyone on their drumline is a music major so therefore its ok if they mess up just a little bit at least its not to the point their fans cant enjoy it. actuslly the drumline im on would get torn up by these guys and we would still have our fans cause we're enetertaining which is the HBCU's only goaland thats it.

  • @TheDragonmaster18 I don't know what school you go to or what group you work with but it is NEVER acceptable to be dirty, especially in college.

  • @bigpimpin2736 dude they are very clean. sure not dci perfection but it is still clean. see but unlike you guys in the corps style bands these types of drumlines have a lot more music to learn so they just happy to make it sound decent. and besides they dont compete so who cares. they are performing for a crowd at a football game not in front of dci judges. also in HBCU schools education comes first band second. also remember that football crowds know nothing about band.

  • @TheDragonmaster18 I feel you on the football crowd, but as a musician you have got to have more pride in your line than that.

  • @bigpimpin2736 this drumline has pride in what they do in fact all hbcu drumlines have pride in what they do. even the dirtiest of drumlines have pride. and the drumline in this video is one of the cleanest hbcu drumlines there is. sure its not dci perfection but it is still clean. and im sure these guys would love to have everything perfect but remember that these guys also have tons of other music to learn and memorize. so therefore they dont have the time to perfect every little thing.

  • nsu all day

  • no where near mdfs, not even close to it

  • Israelwillwin: I'm loving your screen name because I'm right there with. you and the kingdom of God. Buuuuuuut....gotta disagree with you on this one, man. Sounds pretty darn clean to me. lol

  • not clean at all

  • @Isrealwillwin dude this is as clean its going to get with an HBCU line

  • everything's tuned reeeeally low - me like

  • My favorite part of this cadence is at 1:18 this take me bacc to 03 MRSB !!!

  • Looks and sounds like Norfolk State Million Dollar Funk Squad

  • @wb1031 No where near Million Dollar!!...MDFS actually has technique

  • XcodywilltriumphX: "....just cuz they know rudiments doesnt mean anyhting."

You've got to be kidding me. And since you're wondering, a so-called "white drumline" is a corps style drumline. And the so-called "black drumlines" are show style drumlines. For example, the video above is a show style line. Go up to the top and search "DCI Cadets Drumline 2006 White Rabbit". They know their rudiments, and it shows.

  • @jsudrumline09 dude hes right just because you know your rudiments doesnt mean you're a good drummer. i know alot of good drummers who dont even know rudiments and can still play better than most. my high drumline knhew they rudiments and they are a corps style band and they have no talent. and saying that if a drummer doesnt no rudiments cant play is just like saying if a guy cant read a sign that says toilet doesnt mean he cant use it.

  • man i miss mr boone ! torre sims- quints ashs 08'

  • this soun kinda norfolkish

  • wait, are they all black? thats even MORE BADASS

  • awsome

  • i like the quint part to this cadence.

    not loud and just right.

  • cleanest swac drumline ever

  • @347826able there not in the swac buddy lol

  • man for winter season everyone droped out, we have to switch from pit to battery to make it work...

  • looks like somebody has been watching top secret drumline from edinburgh.

  • this is the glorious Albany State University. let's go rams!!!!

  • dis shit hott doe

  • can I be one of those guys with cymbals and a cape?

  • r this high school or something???

  • that was clean.

  • Effing Badarse! Nice, very nice inddeed!

  • stupid

  • indor quads, outdoors

    wtf

  • hey wats the diff in sounds between the two?

  • ur serious, whats the diffrence bettween indoor and outdoors quads

the amout of sound each drum puts out outdoor quads are much louder than indoor quads

  • oooh ok thts wat i was assuming but i wanted an answer from an experienced person, thanx....and yeah those quads r really quiet

  • im not experienced, but ive been playing drums for 3 whole years now and i just know most everything this there is about drums

  • lolz thts weird cause same here, but whend u start marching stuff cause this freshman year i jst started with things like this

  • this is my first year marching in a freshmen rite now and were playing stuff just like this, well the drumline is anyway

    GO HIGLEY MARCHING KNIGHTS

  • oh well my drumline doesnt do cool stuff like this we only hav 3 snares 1 quad 1 quint well our quints r broken so 2quints and 4 basses =/ we need new cadances i think im going to try to make some cool ones xD

  • tats kewl were marching with 3 snares and 4 basses and 2 quads

number wise were in division 4 but we take superior in major competions in division 2 and excelent in division 1

    so we got tallent

but we are liminted sounds wise

  • i feel ya we were 3 basses 5 snares 1-3 quads 5 cymbals at first ended up with 4 at beginning of year at end and next we are gonna be small

  • this past marching season, 4 basses, 3 snares, 2 quads, 0 cymbals

this year we are gona have at least 5 basses mabye 6, 4 or 5 snares, 3 quads and 5 cymbal players that cna do 16th note splits and 15 in ta pit for winter drumline, go HILGEY WINTER DRUMLINE

  • you are one ignorant dumbass man, 3 years? you don't know shit.

  • bet i know more than you dumbass

  • yea very our director doesnt like the outdoor sound so he tunes htem for indoor and they stay that way 4ever unless 1 head breaks (not often)

  • 118 was the best part

  • Damn that was sweet

  • THis is GOOOD!!!!

  • quint players killin it

  • this is one of the best southern drumlines ive ever seen in my life i usually dont like that kinda stuff but this is pretty bad assed much props!! im an xtreme drum corps fan and i loved this shit lol..

  • ?? im from the south and i do Not play this stuff.

  • lolz

  • Wat skool is dis?

  • Albany State University in Albany, Georgia...

  • HBCU and Drum Corps i personally choose drum corps but hbcu's you gotta respect them for gettin the crowd movin

  • I have to agree with 2244242 and classgirl2012. Although they play very well. I believe what the other two posters are trying to say is that ASU does not sound their traditional way and the change is obiviously to much for them to accept. I personally don't like the way they sound because they remind me of my old high school. They have mad skills, but I prefer that old-school black percussion sound. Does anyone have any footage from the 80's or 90's of ASU percussion - where can i find it?

  • I thought that quint/quad part looked pretty cool, all those cross overs look kinda hard

  • id like to know what a "white" drumline is

these guys are good just like norfolk just cuz they know rudiments doesnt mean anyhting

  • i think that when he says white drumline he means corps style drumming, which this definitely is not, so i really don't know what hes talking about.

  • look up lafayette high marching band for a 'white' drumline

  • you're an idiot?

  • @XcodywilltriumphX they play a lot of rudiments -___ -

  • Wow@the dumb shit that gets posted when I'm away for a while. PF keep doing your thing. -CMF Fall '96

  • This is from the 2005 season. This line was not as good as the lines Platinum Forte had from 2000-2004. WEAK LEADERSHIP coming from the section leader and other oldheads in the section caused the line to suffer. The line hasn't been the same since. It's better now but not what is was during the first 4 years of PF. This was the year that the section leader and his click decided to past down false history to the freshmen in the line. You can't have a fire section if people don't know the concepts

  • shut yo dumb ass up its a new age lol grow up

  • tenors(quints) need to learn how to scrape, and cross

  • da tenors sounded horrible

  • Tenors very dirty, tune your drums too, heads need to be torqued...

  • no. thats the way we (hbcu drumlines) tune our quints typically. we dont really like our quint heads all super tight so they ring, we'd rather get get a lower, nice thick sound out of them. just a matter of taste i guess.

  • hela dirty..

  • They have some spots to clean but it was cool. Way more clean then SAC State though

  • where they from

  • !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This cadence is awesome though it reminds me of something that would be featured in Drumline.

  • albany drumline getting up there...kinda dirty at some spots that you cant even make it clear.....but it good though keep that up.

  • NASTY NASTY NASTY NO JOKE.

  • datz watz gud am feeling dat so watz dat punch call?

  • haha

    DIRTYYYY!!

  • Comment removed

  • man this cadence is fire but...I gotta give props to dem quint toms....DEM BOIS ON FIEA! DEM SNARES CLEAN TOO...I MIGHT BE GOIN TO ALBANY YA'LL!!!!

  • LOVE the tenor part at 1:18 for sure! It was BA.lol

  • Wow how sick is the beat at 1.18?

  • this line is very good. enough said...i wonder why they get slept on so much

  • this line should come to Norfolk State, and go up against MD (Million Dollar Funk Squad) im on the line there, and i would love a chance to battle you guys

  • What? You've never heard of them? The "Most Dangerous Drumline on the Planet"-New York Times 1996. The Tony Award-winning drumline show "Blast!" DCI's Blue Devils, Cavaliers, and Cadets? Are you living in a cave or under a rock? Check them out on Youtube! You guys don't stand a chance! Plus, they won PASIC (world championships, which you guys OBVIOUSLY don't have the gall to compete in) for the 21st time this year! You really think you can get with that?

  • You said "THEY" which says to me that YOU aren't and never have been a member. So once again where is the video of the line that YOU perform with? Put up or shut up.

  • I meant to reply to your last comment and not remove. You SURE what you previously posted is true? Absolutely, positively no fabrication? Hmmmm?

  • Actually, University of North Texas band will put these guys in the dirt, ESPECIALLY the drum line. They've won PASIC over 20 times. That's where the REAL big boys compete. However, this is one of the cleaner black drum lines I've seen!

  • Post a video of YOUR section so we can see how well they match up to NT.

  • Niggas ASU will kill any fuckin band put dat on boss 229 for life

  • OHHHHHH OOUCH!!

  • jus play on pillowz n watch otherz play...learn all yur rudimentz especially paradiddles and tripletz

  • pretty damn good for a show line! nice!

  • Albany's drumline has always been sick with it! Gooooo Rams!

  • i just started playing the quds...and is there anyone who has and helpful tips for me....o ye im right handed

  • I think you misunderstood him. He was asking for any helpful tips, not for someone to be an asshole.

  • lol

  • lol utah, best snare in texas yea take that

  • that was awesome

  • Wow. This is one of the few college style drumlines that I actually enjoyed watching. The snares were a lot cleaner than I expected, the tenors had some pretty sick runs, and the basses weren't playing quarter-dotted quarter rhythms the entire time. Good job.

  • This the first time I seen Albany's drum line. This is nice. Very clean.

  • My hometown college, Albany State Throwing It down. ASU!!!!!

  • Alcorn State University!!!! I'm an alcornite til the day I die!!!!

  • wrong school....

  • i know....someone else uses youtube on this computer...I hardly ever get on this site anymore...its been about three months since i been on here

  • cant wait till im there fall "09" on dat snare!

  • I played with NSU, and probably will for the upcoming year. This is the only the line I honestly gice any props to. They can actually play. I would love to see these guys.

  • Nice job!! Very Impressive!!!

  • Visiting DCI guy here ... enjoying the show bands!

Kind of surprised that the snare lines (most of them?) seem to still be using straps. Is it usually a matter of choice, or budget? Maybe the show bands prefer the drum movement visually?

    Somebody fill me in.

  • There are a few lines (vast majority) that march carriers. The ones that still march straps more than likely do so out of tradition and the fact that most lines that do come from bands that march with a high knee lift. Therefore that right leg is still free to pop up at 90 degrees.

  • Thanks! Had a feeling that the leg lift had something to do with it. For my first years in high school (1978-79), our band was still doing Big-10 style marching and we used straps. When the band went corps-style, the bobbing of the drums became a real distraction (as well as the bruises on our legs!), and they finally splurged on carriers.

    My back was so happy.

    Cheers!

  • Het is de moeite waard maar victory den haag holland speelt beter met dinamic en techniek dus door oefenen

  • OK, this is great....a fantastic example of a show style drum corps actually playing notes in a controlled fashion while keeping the visuals in...fun, disciplined, technically fabulous.

    Bernard Green

    CorpsVets - Snare

    Cream Drum Corps - Staff

  • damn! Some cool licks! Really clean too! Very awesome guys! Keep it up!

  • without a doubt the best show style line i ever heard...and 1:17 its the coolest thing i ever seen, good job. this is Albany State U right

  • OH my gosh............

    That was amazing!!!

    Tenors great job!!!

Snares great at 1:17 with cymbals!!!

    I loved it!!!!

  • i cant wait... 1 more year an i will be apart of this..... on quints ..... yea boiii!!

  • what the hell cymbal technique is that!?!?!

dirty as all hell in the basses and cyms...otherwise good

  • wow rlly RLLY clean snares for a HBCU! nice!

  • Very good. But the head bobs needed to be tighter with those plumes. But they were very impressive regardless.

  • thats was raw...and ya'll have a clean snare

  • its 4 tenors dumbass

  • man they choppin on tha real.....

  • some gay quints(not players)

    but this was tight

  • Nice. One of the cleanest traditional style drumlines I've heard. Keep up the good work you guys are scarce in the HBCU Bands. Quality.

    later

  • i like it

  • tight

  • only 2 tenors but clean

  • IT WAS 4 TENORS

  • are those the new buildings on the yard?? tight drumline. i had to come check out youtube to see the "new" band because of all the arguments/discussions on myspace.
