Unfortunately Scouts are known for being rust buckets, especiall the rocker panels and body mounts.
I still remember though being a small kid in Fabens Tx and seeing the 79 or 80 model Scout on the sales floor of our local IH dealership before IH broke up the divisions and sold them off.
The IH vehicles (Travelall, pickup, Scout, etc.) suffered from severe rust problems. Our family had a '74 Travelall, and it started rusting within two years. The tailgate was rusted completely through by '77! But the engines ran great! They finally came out with this rust-through warranty in '79 or '80, but by then it was too late. They already had a bad reputation. I wish International still made consumer vehicles.
@DaHackman1 2-1/2 or three years from now a new company will be building vehicles which are about the size of the old 2-door Wrangler Unlimited. They will be called the Scout Series III, SS-III, Traveler and Terra pickup.
@benspilk900 My carburated thirty year old ford has 367000 miles on it and it runs great. My 47 year old IH 4 cylinder also still runs well enough to be my daily driver. Never been rebuilt. I wouldn't own a fuel injected pos if someone was giving them away.
@benspilk900 LOL! IHC designed their gas motors off diesel blueprints. They are built to go 500,000 miles before needing to be rebuilt. direct gear to gear cam timing, thick bore spacing, high nickel alloy block/cylinder head/intake castings, all forged internals, HUGE bearing journals, high volume oiling, need I say more? 100% pure industrial duty engines. IH always had high mile/long term warranties on their trucks. also IH galvanized the 1980's sheetmetal which allowed extended warranty.

LOL. They always slap outrageous warranties on cars that are about to be canceled.

@mustangcharger What was outrageous? Any motor that cant go 100,000 miles without blowing up is worthless.
MrSafetymeeting 1 year ago
@MrSafetymeeting It was 1980, most everything was carburated still, 100000 then was like 200000 today.
