i'd focus on loosing some weight, just my 5c, i was bigger but fatter also like 5 months ago, lost 7 kilos, got weaker and smaller, but way much better looking, size is relative, but leaner is always better.

@Lix187 Whether you stand or not doesn't differentiate them. The angle of his upper arm or the pad surface is what makes it a spider curl...it's perpendicular to the floor. The angle gives you less leverage during the lift than the preacher curl, so you would lift less. The spiders probably hit the muscle a bit differently too.

also it's just not true that that way is easier than with straight arms because here your muscles are demanded all the time, whereas you can relax them for a while letting your joints carry some of the weight.

I am a zottman curl (bench bar)all the way with concentration and preachers. Full range works out stick points and strenthens existing ones. Thats my theory what do you think? you can, at points, straighten out the arms. When i did preacher curls, if i could do 10 reps by three with the weight, then it was safe (atleast for me) to straighten the arms out.

Your theory works and I support it. Muscle gets stronger only at the angles it's being worked at, if you don't do full range of motion then you musle isn't going to be strong throughout the entire range of motion.

That type of training will get you mass, but it's not that good if you're aiming for strength, because of stickpoints. Larry Scott says to always do those with a straight bar. Not an EZ curl bar because the straight bar places better stress on the bicep & forces the bicep to contract harder. You will get more results out of a straight bar than EZ curl.

people are different, I personally like to use lighter to medium weight when doing spider curls so I dont put pressure on my back or shoulders.

you don't go all the way down and straighten your arms because it harms your elbows
also it's just not true that that way is easier than with straight arms because here your muscles are demanded all the time, whereas you can relax them for a while letting your joints carry some of the weight.

ok, but if your not getting a full range of motion then you are creating a stick point either at top or 1/4 way up from hang don't you think? I am a zottman curl (bench bar)all the way with concentration and preachers. Full range works out stick points and strenthens existing ones. Thats my theory what do you think? Boy is big in this vid not taking anything away I am just saying more for power lifting.

what I wanted to point at is that you shouldn't straighten your arms completely to avoid stress on your joints.
but there is still a wide range of motion
it's only a couple of degrees you leave out^^

you can, at points, straighten out the arms. When i did preacher curls, if i could do 10 reps by three with the weight, then it was safe (atleast for me) to straighten the arms out.
I understand what you're getting at. if its aheavier amount of weight, its best to not straighten out.

Your theory works and I support it. Muscle gets stronger only at the angles it's being worked at, if you don't do full range of motion then you musle isn't going to be strong throughout the entire range of motion.

No, actually it's a lot harder when you extend all the way down and people just use ''it will hurt your joints'' as an excuse. You're supposed to lower all the way down and if you're using the weigth you can handle and proper form then you're not gonna hurt your joints.

and hell yes its harder to go all the way down. the upper portion was cake, it was lifting from that bottom disadvantaged point where i felt alot of the burn.

yer no , going all the way down doesnt isolate the muscle it gives them a rest for a few seconds, not fully extending requires the bicep to be isolated untill the excercise is finished and that should be your aim unless ur not cut out for gym

That type of training will get you mass, but it's not that good if you're aiming for strength, because of stickpoints. And Ronnie Coleman cheats, so his muscles don't get as exhausted as they would if he kept good form and constant tension. Besides, Coleman is so frikkin natural that he doesn't even drink whey shakes.

Larry Scott says to always do those with a straight bar. Not an EZ curl bar because the straight bar places better stress on the bicep & forces the bicep to contract harder. You will get more results out of a straight bar than EZ curl.
