  • Thank you..This is Wonderful!!! 100*********

  • Listening to this again after Al Jr commented on my previous comment......god dont you just want to give them all a HUGE hug ! I feel embarrassed to have assumed they wouldn't be with us now.....Al....here's a huge hug and heartfelt thanks for touching our hearts with this fine song x

  • @altonhandfield. Al thank you so much for your reply. Every time I watch this I get goosebumps. Very sad to hear that two have died, makes it all the more poignant. You must be so proud of your dad : ) When was this video of them made ? The second I hear the first note, I just have to stop and listen. Tell your dad he has one excellent voice and a first class performer. All the best Tj x

  • i love every version of this song that i have heard so far. Im singing it for my audition.

  • I do remember hearing this. I always liked this one a lot. It really is a great song and it takes me way back to late elementary school. I listened to the radio every night; we had a program called "Night Train" and it played rock 'n roll. I loved this one a lot for certan. What a great job they are doing on this live version. That says a lot because normally the studio version is best. Kudos to their talen. Thank you for this post.

  • I love it, thank you so much for making real music.

  • I love dad home ilese to this soga

  • I taught my dadughters this song when they were babies. They still remember all the words and have taught their children the words too. I guess this is our family's favorite......

    Flytown

  • These guys are like fine wine, they get better as they get older :)

  • that guy looks to young, to be shep.

but this song still kick ass :)

  • @SuperJester94 That's because he's not Shep. Shep died and left the group in the hands of the lead singer in this video Al Handfield, my father! the reason he looks too young is our family line has a unique genetic trait of looking at least 10-20 yrs younger than our actual age! It happens to one child per family. I picked up this trait from him. He was around the same age as Shep!

  • Love this song! I danced to it in a dance recital with my daddy when I was 8 :')

  • so nice to hear this once again. thank you for the treat, tom d.

  • @sxi2212 That's my dad Al Handfield on lead and they are very much alive! Only two have died, Shep and Charles Baskerville. I'm Al Jr.

  • SOUND AWESOME GREAT!!!!THNX!!!!

  • whose version was the first??

  • oh, how sweet!

  • an ALL time GREAT....1961 was a GREAT year for music,...........

  • I use old spice deodorant

  • this totally reminds me of my husband I love you you Shawn

  • Wish I could find a sweetheart like this...

  • I believe this was the original bass singer of the Heartbeats(Shep`s first group) singing with the limelites here.Shep was murdered on the Belt parkway in New York, in the late 1960`s.

  • @thebigfist I believe their first recording was as the "Heartbeats quintet" on the Network label the name of the song was "Tormented" great stuff

    ERIK VONDERLIETH

  • Erik,Shep had a totally different group:The four other Heartbeats did not become Limelites.Actually, two survivng members of the Videos("Trickle,Trickle") joined Shep as the Limelites. They had no bass singer as Shep and the Limelites but the original bass singer of the Heartbeats is one of two surviving Heartbeats that sometime will appear with the new Limelite group.

  • @thebigfist Can you tell me about what happend to Shep,? I am from Brooklyn & don't remember reading about his murder, so what can you tell us about it ? Intreasting fact about him he had a marvolous voice I remember the hit 1,000 miles away with the Heartbeats.

  • @MyREDTAIL I don`t know the details but it may have been a road rage type incident.Shep had a bad alcohol problem. He was great guy but became very surly when under the influence, which purportedly is why the Heartbeats broke up.

  • the biz

  • I love every minute of this classic. Wish i was lucky enough to have attended any concert. I'll take this (MY) type of music any day over the nonsense that they call music today.

    Rae

  • I always wanted to be a background singer so I could do those rat-a-tats and shoo-wops, etc. I guess the shower will have to do! great music!

  • much mahalo for this video!!!!!

    aloha!!!!!

  • yep the delfonics sound to much like shep and limelites , listen to acapella from spanish fly its also good but still nothing taken away from the limelites

  • cruzing in my 58 chevy back then man those were the days

  • thanks that was awesome..

  • I was only born in 1983, but I I can transport myself to the 50's crusing in a Bel-Air on a hot summer night listening to this on the radio. Maybe I was born in the wrong time- I respect a time back when people actually had to have talent to be famous. Not just a self-centered attitude, a pair of stupid sunglasses and an over-used autotune and vocoder used to make the garbage they push through the radio these days-seems like we're going backwards.

  • now this is what im talking about

  • once again this historian on doo wop and rocknroll can tell you, DADDYS HOME is way way up there. An American classic. These guys are angels fro Heaven . this song like a prescious few will endure into ternity. what a song what a tune, . Its a trip back into a gentler time. god bless this song and the men Limelights . TOMK

  • This is what I call quality music at its best.

  • Simply brilliant! God bless them all.

    Wayne

  • ...breath taking..

  • This song is special to me. My father danced this song with me at my sweet 16 party. He cleared the floor to dance with me.

  • Where and when was this?

  • Limelites were the Five Sharps(?) of Stormy Weather fame and later the highly successful Videos who did Trickle Trickle. That's Big Al singing lead-saw himaAt many a UGHA show.RIP Ronnie I.

  • @beefoneeto Hi could you tell me who the young singer is????? Thanks

  • @kotiro12 The "young" singer is my dad Al Handfield and he just turned 70 last month! We just have a genetic trait that makes us look 10 to 20 yrs younger than we are.

  • This still makes me cry and feel good at the same time.

  • Damn eses this was some rola back in the barrio. EastLos eses; I still play it when I'm lowriding in Cesar Chavez St aka Brooklyn St. Oldies for EVER batossss

  • true a big hit

  • My favorite Shep and the Limelights song is " it's all over now" blows me away! Can someone post this song please.

  • truly one of the biggest gems to ever come out of this era. I'm a rock and pop drummer who loves a little throwback to the classics and this is definitely one of my lifetime favorites

  • That is not Shep. It's one of the new members.

  • The late great James Shepard was saddly found in his car on the side of a road. Few people know how much Shep and the limelites infuence what we hear today in music. A true giant.

  • Yes, I know. Still bothers me. Also know how they influenced today's music. I've been there through every decade.

  • Shep looked so young....for a moment , I thought it was Johnny Gill. RIP Shet...you guys were truly stars

  • As the Ice Man, Jerry Butler, puts it:

"Ladies and Gentlemen, harmony at it's best!"

No lie. The more I play this song, the more I simply love it!!!

A real "classic" from the Doo Wop Era!!

    :-)

    Dr. Don

  • my god he looks like he's 12 years old...but wat an amazing voice

  • I wish I lived in their times when the music was REAL !!!

I hate hip-hop/rap...they are not music...

  • Wow!!, that is Classy Harmony

  • Fantastic music. Remind me to sing it to my daughter-yet-to-be-born :p

  • Amazing, this is a great singer, style, class phrasing he has it all backround singers are so tight close harmony

  • My Lord! These Old Brothas still got it!

  • Excellent! The "sweet spot" of doo wop.

  • I love it....

  • I have no doubt the back street boys or christina aguilera could ever match the classics. They just don't make them like they used to :(

  • u are SO right. these contemporary folks have NO talent. they think they gotta squirm and lose clothes to make a buck

  • super!--and one still gets goose bumps during the part 1:50-2:10 :) that part really drew the cheers in the old days..
