She was amazing but my personal opinion... I don't think she deserved a 10. She had a hop on her first tumbling pass, she didn't have full extetion in all her tumbling passes, some of her leaps here lacking extention also and she didn't finish her double turn all the way around. I do think she deserved to win, just not with a 10.
@twilitebug I see what you mean but personally if I was a judge I would forgive her that tiny hop after this amazing tumbling pass. Her first tumbling pass would be HUGE even today
If you think about it, Nadia Comaneci who is from Romania scored the very first Perfect 10 in Olympic history, and Lavinia Miloşovici who is also from Romania, scored the very last Perfect 10 in history!
@VideoFreakEvw13 - true! though that punch front is debatable for a perfect ten here ! Its a shame Lavinia looked well and truely bored competing after about 1994 though !

BUT you on the other are the one wiht no class or education if you are saying we as Americans lack decency, inteligence, and education.
@djprojectus wow if you went and counted all the comments ever made on youtube and divided by how many were made by americans and then divided by the number that are negative and mulitplied by 100 you have no life. so if you didnt do that then its not a fact. but nice try.
@djprojectus well you suspected wrong. im a proud American and im not just going to let it slide when you said Americans are uneducated, lack decency, and inteligence. sorry but im not a push over.
A person of decency, intelligence and education doesn't resort to profanities and generalizations. This routine was excellent and Milo deserved her gold medal. However, small mistakes kept it from being a ten. There are no mistakes in perfection. If you want to discuss Americans being awarded tens with mistakes, you can look at Mary Lou Retton's floor routine. It has nothing to do with nationality and everything to do with mistakes (even small ones) not being allowed when declaring perfection.
@Padmepotter4986 WHAT PROFANITIES ? I DINDT KNOW THAT AMERICANS ARE SAINTS. I dont want to discuss americans who received a ten,i am sure in that time and in that COP(code of points) they deserved, like lavinia deserved her ten in that time and with that COP,afterall 6 trained judges said she deserved a ten,so.....
Milo deserved every tenth for this beautiful routine. She performed to music you'd expect somebody like Strug or Atler to perform to, except Milo did a good job.
HAHAHAHA...WHO ARE SAYING THAT THIS NOT DESERVE A 10? in that COP gymnast are not suppose to stick landings. The choreography is really really creative... if you can do it better... well let´s us see your performance.
whilst Onodi's routine was technically there it was faceless. Milo's personality came through in her's turning it into a thing of beauty. How do you mark that? you just give her a 10
Great routine but not a 10 - she had a clear, visible, obvious hop forward on her opening tumbling pass - the judges just wanted to give her the gold and with Onodi's 9.95 they had to give Milo a 10 for her to win.
@stitre ahhhhh - thanks for the explanation - I know nothing about scoring in gymnastics and that was very enlightening. Thanks for posting comments that are educational and not confrontational :)

@Chutson353 Exactly; which is why the "10" had to bow out gracefully. If judges started to mark routines high from the beginning they would end up boxing themselves into a corner, which is why 10's were given out like sweets in the past, often erroneously so. Although there are a couple of landing errors here, the overall routine is just so breathtaking, it HAD to be at least half a point better than Onodis, hence the 10.

I'm sorry but this routine didn't deserve a 10... Although I do believe she deserved the gold medal but she hopped on the opening tumbling pass. A hop is a hop, is a hop...
i didn't agree with the perfect score either. aside from the little hop off the top, she landed the last full-twisting double really low with her chest, and had to do a serious lunge to make it look fully rotated. but she deserved the gold.

Yes, that's right. She also came close in the team optionals on bars with a 9.987. Kim Zmeskal also scored a 10 at those worlds on her vault in team optionals.
Here are the last 10s scored at World Championship competition on each event respectively:
i think the judges started looking at different things... i think if todays judges scored that routine it would be a 9.7, i see form errors, but i see form errors in most rountines that scored a 10....

That's why Romanian gymnasts are the best in the world, despite what people say. A Romanian was the FIRST and the LAST to score a perfect 10 in Olympic history (nadia and milo) and that stays in the record books forever. Belu and Bitang left but they taught the new coaches what they know so it won't be much longer when we see Romania back on top at the World's. Check out their Juniors who look dynamic too.
Dawes certainly could have won the bronze had she been in finals. I wish the compulsories were gone by 92. I think by 88 they had run their course, and with something like team scores being eliminated from AA results it was time for compulsories to go too. Dawes was kept out of finals and possibly medaling by compulsories.
So,let me get this straight,Romania got the first and the last perfect 10 in olympic history...that means we can sure do gymnastics :P
i was only 6 but i can still recall Topescu with his unique style of commenting shouting at her every tumble and the emotions he was transmitting...gosh
Yes, Lavinia hopped on her first pass. So? She made the hop look like it was a part of her routine. That is the difference between her and Onodi, as Onodi's hop was obvious and she didn't cover well. Anyone who think they should have tied has lost their mind.
I dont care what anyone says this deserved the 10. The originality, energy and incredible tumbling deserves a 20. I dont think the detractors here understand just how difficult this routine is-I mean on a biomechanical and physical level. The difficulty displayed here is staggering-the timing and precision and spatial awareness required are unreal and well beyong the scope of the average person.
She orked as an assistant coach for the romanian junior team, but failed to receive a meagre salary of US$50 per month, so she resigned and became unemployed. She got lots of lucrative offers to coach in US/Canada, but she rejected them, thinking she wanted to do something to contribute to her own country.
She was cheated in that nudity scandal, being told the photos/movies are artistic, and they wont be sold/seen outside Japan...
I've always felt so bad for her w/ that photo scandal--I've read many stories about how Romanian gymnasts, some of the best in the world, are sometimes treated badly by their own federation. (Didn't Gogean and/or Ponor go on strike?) I think it's understandable Milo made some mistakes, and I truly hope she finds some peace. She has so much heart, and incredible talent.
No, Gogean did not go on strike and kept quiet about the federation (gymnasts not receiving the full prize money from exhibition/world champs), and now she has a very good life, being a gymnastics judge actively. Simona Amanar also kept quiet and now she is the vice-president of the Romanian Gym Federation.
And Milo spoke up to the media about the problems of the federation, so this is one of the reasons why she did not even get 1 cent of financial support on her daughter's disability problem (it was Nadia Comaneci and Andrea Raducan who helped raising funds for Milo's daughter's operation in China, but the daughter died in 2008 - another setback for Milo!!!). And this is also why it is virtually impossible for Milo to do any coaching job for the Romanian team again.
And I don't think the FIG will ever induct Milo to the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame because of that photo/video scandal. It is true she made a bad mistake to be involved in that scandal, but perhaps she also learns something from this mistake? I still think she deserves a better life instead of these never-ending, heartbreaking struggles in her post-retirement life.
As a gymnast, she trained 7 hours a day every single day, and could not be exposed to the real world, so when she retired, she was not experienced enough to handle the bad people / cheats in the real world:
She paid a builder the full amount to build a house after she retired, but the builder disappeared half way through the construction, so she ended up being broke.
Then a string of bad family investments resulted in ALL her earnings as a sportsperson being vanished.
yes, shouldnt have scored a 10 with that obvious lack of control in the first pass. a tie with Onodi for the gold would have been the appropriate outcome.
I was 6 when I saw this. I really wanted to be a Romanian gymnast after this...but the fact I'm Irish and have the agility of an 104 year old lady with severe arthritis, didn't help. What a super performance! That could have been me... *sobs*
I am not an expert but I did like to watch gymnastics a lot at that time and this was such an impressive performance that I was shocked at that time how briliant it was. I have not seen any more impressive floor before nor after this. She was the hero of 1992 IMPO. Loved this performace a lot.
One of the most overrated floor exercises of all time. Good tumbling but the "dance" sucked. It was childish and poorly performed. Just awful choreography. Henrietta Onodi was robbed!
Wow, sorry but she is known as one of the few Romanians to actually dance, and dance well. Her coreography was ok, her dance was very well performed. Check out:
Lavinia Milosovici - 1995 Superstars of Gymnastics - Floor At the beginning you will have a real criticism of her!
don't be mad, Henrietta still has that vault gold that she didn't really deserve, and that world vault gold that Chusovitina was robbed of, it's a fair exchange IMO
Well, that vault final was really lackluster. But I though Onodi was the more deserving than Milosovici. Lavinia's 2nd vault was ugly-cowboyed and straddled feet. Yuck!
I agree that the dance and choreography just wasn't there. It almost looked like Geza Pozar went back to Romania to choreograph this routine. I always hated that cutesy kindergartner style that the Romanians sometimes showed.

I agree with you. I respected Milo so much as an athlete and gymnast, but I hated this floor routine immensely. The post 89 choreography IMHO just wasn't up to snuff for me.

I think if dominique dawes was in the Event finals she would have won or at least gotten a medal....
zx101 3 years ago
Dawes certainly could have won the bronze had she been in finals. I wish the compulsories were gone by 92. I think by 88 they had run their course, and with something like team scores being eliminated from AA results it was time for compulsories to go too. Dawes was kept out of finals and possibly medaling by compulsories.

So,let me get this straight,Romania got the first and the last perfect 10 in olympic history...that means we can sure do gymnastics :P
i was only 6 but i can still recall Topescu with his unique style of commenting shouting at her every tumble and the emotions he was transmitting...gosh
love you Milo,all the best.

No, Romania has the first and last OLYMPIC 10's

Excuse me but... what is the name of the music she uses in this routine?

Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy
KarenLovesGymnastics 3 years ago
Yes, Lavinia hopped on her first pass. So? She made the hop look like it was a part of her routine. That is the difference between her and Onodi, as Onodi's hop was obvious and she didn't cover well. Anyone who think they should have tied has lost their mind.
Penguin888 4 years ago
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it in the code of points in this quadrennium, a slight hop after a punch front doesn't warrant a deduction?
ispaht 3 years ago
I dont care what anyone says this deserved the 10. The originality, energy and incredible tumbling deserves a 20. I dont think the detractors here understand just how difficult this routine is-I mean on a biomechanical and physical level. The difficulty displayed here is staggering-the timing and precision and spatial awareness required are unreal and well beyong the scope of the average person.

We understand, you fucking git. She had zero artistry. It was FUG.

her daughter was born prematurely when she was 6 months pregnant so now she suffers from serious disability problem.
It must be devastating for her to accept so many setbacks after retirement.
Anonymous9999 4 years ago 2
She orked as an assistant coach for the romanian junior team, but failed to receive a meagre salary of US$50 per month, so she resigned and became unemployed. She got lots of lucrative offers to coach in US/Canada, but she rejected them, thinking she wanted to do something to contribute to her own country.
She was cheated in that nudity scandal, being told the photos/movies are artistic, and they wont be sold/seen outside Japan...
Anonymous9999 4 years ago 3
I've always felt so bad for her w/ that photo scandal--I've read many stories about how Romanian gymnasts, some of the best in the world, are sometimes treated badly by their own federation. (Didn't Gogean and/or Ponor go on strike?) I think it's understandable Milo made some mistakes, and I truly hope she finds some peace. She has so much heart, and incredible talent.
NYCBlonde 1 year ago 3
No, Gogean did not go on strike and kept quiet about the federation (gymnasts not receiving the full prize money from exhibition/world champs), and now she has a very good life, being a gymnastics judge actively. Simona Amanar also kept quiet and now she is the vice-president of the Romanian Gym Federation.
Anonymous9999 1 year ago
And Milo spoke up to the media about the problems of the federation, so this is one of the reasons why she did not even get 1 cent of financial support on her daughter's disability problem (it was Nadia Comaneci and Andrea Raducan who helped raising funds for Milo's daughter's operation in China, but the daughter died in 2008 - another setback for Milo!!!). And this is also why it is virtually impossible for Milo to do any coaching job for the Romanian team again.
Anonymous9999 1 year ago
And I don't think the FIG will ever induct Milo to the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame because of that photo/video scandal. It is true she made a bad mistake to be involved in that scandal, but perhaps she also learns something from this mistake? I still think she deserves a better life instead of these never-ending, heartbreaking struggles in her post-retirement life.
Anonymous9999 1 year ago
As a gymnast, she trained 7 hours a day every single day, and could not be exposed to the real world, so when she retired, she was not experienced enough to handle the bad people / cheats in the real world:
She paid a builder the full amount to build a house after she retired, but the builder disappeared half way through the construction, so she ended up being broke.
Then a string of bad family investments resulted in ALL her earnings as a sportsperson being vanished.

yes, shouldnt have scored a 10 with that obvious lack of control in the first pass. a tie with Onodi for the gold would have been the appropriate outcome.
mrparts 4 years ago
I was 6 when I saw this. I really wanted to be a Romanian gymnast after this...but the fact I'm Irish and have the agility of an 104 year old lady with severe arthritis, didn't help. What a super performance! That could have been me... *sobs*

yes this was brilliant performance. at this olympics i stated to adore gymnastics and lavinia is one of the reasons. she is to be blamed for it :)
vip385 4 years ago
I am not an expert but I did like to watch gymnastics a lot at that time and this was such an impressive performance that I was shocked at that time how briliant it was. I have not seen any more impressive floor before nor after this. She was the hero of 1992 IMPO. Loved this performace a lot.

in the code of points that "hop" is not a deduction out of a punch front.

One of the most overrated floor exercises of all time. Good tumbling but the "dance" sucked. It was childish and poorly performed. Just awful choreography. Henrietta Onodi was robbed!
finnygene 4 years ago
Wow, sorry but she is known as one of the few Romanians to actually dance, and dance well. Her coreography was ok, her dance was very well performed. Check out:
Lavinia Milosovici - 1995 Superstars of Gymnastics - Floor At the beginning you will have a real criticism of her!
pegasnegru 4 years ago
yeah, i saw better dancing from level 8s growing up in the small city of greenwood SC, lol. but her tumbling rocked i have to say
jpalmettoguy 4 years ago 2
don't be mad, Henrietta still has that vault gold that she didn't really deserve, and that world vault gold that Chusovitina was robbed of, it's a fair exchange IMO
NastiaFan101 4 years ago
Well, that vault final was really lackluster. But I though Onodi was the more deserving than Milosovici. Lavinia's 2nd vault was ugly-cowboyed and straddled feet. Yuck!
finnygene 4 years ago 2
I agree that the dance and choreography just wasn't there. It almost looked like Geza Pozar went back to Romania to choreograph this routine. I always hated that cutesy kindergartner style that the Romanians sometimes showed.
gk891 4 years ago 2
This comment has received too many negative votes show
I agree with you. I respected Milo so much as an athlete and gymnast, but I hated this floor routine immensely. The post 89 choreography IMHO just wasn't up to snuff for me.
