One of the greatest RPGs ever made; but the ending just sucks... It's an amazing, nonstop, awesome adventure throughout the whole game until you reach the final boss fight. It's so anticlimactic... If I were a critic I would give Septerra Core an 8.5 out of 10. A full point taken off for the sour ending boss battle and 0.5 taken off for a serious bug that's on almost every disk; the boss fight with the Hell God, he has an attack that crashes the game because all the data isn't present.

@MissNothingness just finished the game- i forgot all about the tattoos but since you mentioned it- the woman who tattooed Maya told her they were supposed to last for some weeks.so i guess that they weren't gone by the ending of the game.

i used to play this game while i was in eigth grade =o never got to complete it though i think i managed to get two or three world shells alligned and eventually i lost my interest it became extremely repitative and complex.
damn epic story finisher, never beat it but damn nice concept to bad gameplay was tedious, i still enjoyed the game when i hate it tho just fustrating at times.
hmm i couldnt take it anymore. i stopped playing after i reached the badlands. the monkeys (which are ironically called wolves) couldnt let me charge up my bars in peace. they attack so often and the animation is so slow =( seeing all the positive reviews, its a waste that i do not have the patience for this. regarding the navigation map, its probably i didnt put in the effort to find out. haha. this is one of the games i'll play after i retire from work and have all the time in this world =D

Doskias activated the Doomsday Device that raised the world shells in the believe to follow the prophecy as he was a descendant of Marduk. In the end sequence he realizes that it was not his but Maya's destiny as he has a vision of Kyra.

unfortunatley valkyrie studios went on 3d and created project seraphim which noone wanted to publish, its still on theyre site. they thaught 2d game wouldnt sell annymore but they were wrong, they had a good 2d graphics but were able to make only poor 3d.
I was 14... my first RPG. You could spend hours with this, it was pretty complex: every fight and convo depended on the characters you used, and so many cominations... puls tools, magic, plot, and the birds! the pidgeons spread out all over the world.
It's an exciting game! :) Touching, with a breathtaking scenario, adventure and beautiful, very beautiful graphics! Each character has his own personallity, each characters gives you different ant true emotions.. i almost cried when Layla was hit, and the scene with Corgan and Layla (as a Watcher) filled me with many strong emotions (compasion, sorrow, proudness, mystery, moments of spiritual revelations).
The ending is also nice and touching, well not very long but still remains memorable!:):)

I never did finish this game.. Last I recall I was looking for a medical herb to heal someone, or.. Maybe I got that but, not far past that. I'm glad to be able to see the ending to that game. Battles were getting a bit repetative where I was but definately enjoyable.

2) Very likely given Shell 2 is just below Shell one it's very possible some time that someone from Doskais's house got exiled, left etc for shell 2 never told a soul about their blood line and carried on with things. It's really the fact Kyra possessed her at the end there that hammers it home for me.

Never guessed somebody just uploaded this game footage here, it has been so long. Miss this game, Japan RPG lovers would probably like it. The only drawback is some major glitches i.e. the antidote etc. But overall this game is nice.

@kevinngpinckgi Layla was turned earlier, because of fatal wound. Maya was turned later, because Doskias almost split her in two with his blade.
When she says MY sacrifice, Mayas picture is shown.
She didnt exactly die, but she became guardian...

You can interpret in both ways
the most likely is the Jesus mythos where he died but was resurrected(in our case by items)
If so Maya died the moment you could see her spirit and was resurrected (but still wounded) thus see the new world
Basically shes a zombie now just like Jesus and the majority of the other characters who died plenty of times in game

Just finished the game today.
I love the first half of the game, but sadly the second half is just an annoying dungeon crawler.
The ending is cool, a sequel who eliminates all the weaknesses of the gameplay would be awesome!

wow there are so many positive reviews for this game. i dont really like it for several reasons,
#1 no maps for navigation
#2 lengthy battle (monsters attack animations take too long and they keep attacking)
#3 pain to walk around, double click everywhere (when using the keyboard, i need to hold shift. cant i set default to run?).
those really put me off =(

1. Well, there is a navigation map, just press tab.
Maybe you have no map because you didn't installed the patches?
2. Must agree with you on this point, although this only begins to get annoying in the big dungeons in the second game half.
Didn't expectet, that this game would become a mediocre dungeon-crawler, after you get the airship.:(
3. Normally you should get used to it after a while, of course thats just my opinion.;)
