@MileProwersFan That is the problem with past Sonic games though (excluding colours and Sonic Generations), the gameplay wasn't that great. Sonic 4 although probably the better Sonic title at the time felt wrong. The physics were wrong, the music sounded wrong, wrong wrong wrong wrong. That's just my opinion, they let you focus on the gameplay more but the gameplay was off. This has both graphics and excellent controls.
Of course, Sonic Generations has changed all that. I love Generations.

@Noobsaibot21. As cool as this is, I don't feel like it proves that whoever made it could make something better than Sega. Maybe if they made, say, six brand new zones, then I'd be impressed. But they didn't. They just remade one of the most bland levels in Sonic history and added an extra act to it. Don't get me wrong, it looks great and I'm sure a lot of hard work went into it, but making a completely new game would be a LOT harder than making this.

This is a good walkthrough. But I am just shamed with the fans. They all say they can make a better Sonic game and end up never finishing the games. I just think SEGA should do the work since nobody is keeping a promise. But I give these ppl a good job on it. But I think leave the Sonic games to the pros of SEGA and Sonic Team.

its unbelieveable, really. Sonic 4 was developed by profesional game developers, with a huge budget and a huge fanbase supporting them, and it was a shitty, glitchy, poorly designed game, yet sonic fan remix was developed by 2 people, neither of them with much experience, and it was amazing.
I've heard of this a lot, but I think I'm gonna try it now, I just don't know if it'll play at full speed. The game looks really well done, but besides being sonic 4 with better graphics accurate physics(which I don't care that much about), it's nothing more then another 3D sonic 1.
Ok finishing up... I would've actually been more interested if their were other playable characters, which is why I can put no fan game over Sonic Nebulous. Many characters to choose from, different abilities for each one, nice soundtrack, and cool but darker graphics. It's the one game I don't think only think sonic 4 should've been, but but just about any 2D sonic game. I recommend trying the first game and checking out the demo for Nebulous 2.
Yo, just look for it on Bing. I found a copy an played it. It lagged like I thought it would on the weak PC, but it's just like I said before, it's basically a 3D sonic 1 that brings nothing new to like. It's a good game, but besides the graphics, it's not a big step forword from playing a sonic rom hack with new levels that actually works. It's better then Sonic robo blast though, much better, but I still recommend sonic nebulous as the should be sonic 4.
What I find most confusing is that the 'fans' hated SEGA's 3D games ever since Heroes (Which strangely was an attempt to get back to the classics) despite the fact that nearly every other game was designed based on what all the fans wanted. Even Sonic 06! That was ruined because what the people wanted was for it to be released early which made Sony/Microsoft FORCE SEGA to rush it! The make me sick! Sorry for the rant, but it just seems that people don't care about Sonic in 3D...

There's seriously too much going on in the background. The stage looks nice and all, but I think I should be more concerned about enemies and getting rings rather than the giant fucking robot in the background or the killer whale randomly jumping at me from behind the bridge :\
Maybe if they took out most of the crazy things going on in the background and lighten up the scenery a bit, I'll enjoy it a bit more.
To me this appears to be some Art Institute student pet project, respectfully. I will admit this game looks too cluttered, and the music seems a bit contemporary. It looks like an outstanding effort by fans, but it plays too close to an active formula being used by SEGA. The obvious statement about Sega Generations looking better is because it has a full 3D perspective to levels, as well as a new take on music. Generations is worth the wait in contrast.

I can't say I support these graphics 100%. I mean they're certainly well done, but they're a little dark for Sonic, which is generally a bright colorful explosion of happiness.
This fan game is indeed awesome but I feel that saying that this is what sonic 4 should have been is kinda insulting to sega, I mean it is their franchise so they should decide what direction they want to take it.

@DrunkenGeordieMW I don't know, to me the community that supports sega are mostly the children of each generation, I mean most of us were kids when the genesis games came out. So in a sense that's what sega's target audience seems to be, also kids I know seem fine with most sonic games(including 06, heroes and shadow the hedgehog). It seems they are doing pretty well sticking with what they are currently doing, though I do see where your coming from.

Genesis (which I had/have) is just one of the titles for it. I'm pretty sure it was only called the Genesis for Americans. And yes, some really did have the Mega Drive written on it, just like ours had Genesis written on it.
@phantomfox1234 I played the original Sonic the Hedgehog on both Sega Genesis and the Master System (yes there was a Master System version, look it up). Sonic 4 promised us retro Sonic...what we got was close, but they still tried to change too much...the sense of speed was lost. This comes much closer to what the fans wanted. And it is obvious why it did. Because it was made by the fans.
If Sega do see this, they should hire the guys that made it to make a proper version for the consoles (ok, and PC, don't yell).. Either that, or they should work on an entirely new Sonic game with all new levels, music, bosses.. these guys really know what they're doing.
If Sega have any sense, they will hire these guys to either finish Sonic 4, or else to convert the entire 2D Sonic back-catalogue for a PC and console release.
This is loaded with detail... as obnoxious as Sonic "fans" who keep hyping everything that isn't Sonic 4 are, I must say, this actually DOES look superior to the real game.
I actually Love the more "busy" look of this game. As I watched, it felt to me like the idea was to make the environment(not just the badniks) look like they've been mechanized. There's nothing in the environment to suggest this really and yet, overall that's somehow what it looks like to me just due to the color scheme. Maybe it's the dark shadows or the high sheen of the grass and earth. That would be cool if Robotnik is turning the planet into a machine. He could call it Roboland.
It's sad to think that this fan game looks more presentable and playable than the actual Sonic 4 just shows you how determined some fans will go with making games, with the right minds behind the project you can have a swell looking Sonic game. I wish Sega was the same when it came to developing games they are an established game company for peets sake and when you compare this to Sonic 4 it's really a slap in the face to Sega it's like saying look you dumb idiots this is how you make Sonic 4

While I do agree with you in saying people are too ready to knock a Sonic game as soon as it is released and won't give them a chance, they just don't hold me like the Megadrive titles do. I'm still yet to try Sonic Colors, I have heard good things.
Sonic Colors is amazing! It's like the Unleashed day stages but with actual platforming mixed in! There are over 100 acts to play and 6 acts plus a boss in every area. Music is wonderful as always,camera never bothers you, there are hardly any glitches,and the wisps aren't forced upon you, sure you need to use a few to get to a secret area or collect all of the collectables but you can pretty much play without them.Unfortunatly the VA is bad compared to 4kids VA's (only thing they are good at)

To me this appears to be some Art Institute student pet project, respectfully. I will admit this game looks too cluttered, and the music seems a bit contemporary. It looks like an outstanding effort by fans, but it plays too close to an active formula being used by SEGA. The obvious statement about Sega Generations looking better is because it has a full 3D perspective to levels, as well as a new take on music. Generations is worth the wait in contrast.

Other than the irksome British(?) pronunciations, I agree with you completely, this is indeed what sonic 4 should've been like.
It's pretty amazing how far some fans are willing to go to make such exceptional things. This in itself could rightfully be considered animated art.

A franchise is only as strong as the community that supports it.

So in a sense that's what sega's target audience seems to be, also kids I know seem fine with most sonic games(including 06, heroes and shadow the hedgehog). It seems they are doing pretty well sticking with what they are currently doing, though I do see where your coming from.

I mean sega owns the legal rights to it, it doesn't own every humans creative direction when it comes to the ideas here. Some people have a strong alternate creative vision. But I agree in terms of not telling sega what to do.

Not to diss Sonic 4, but i think this beats it by a nice margin. Yes it's a "remix" for a reason, but just looking at those fresh new graphics, wow!
And i've played sonic 1, 2, 3, spinball, sonic & knuckles, sonic 3D on the sega mega drive, and i've also played sonic adventure 1 & 2 on the sega dreamcast. This does sega's best sonic games justice and i hope the dudes who did this get employed by sega to bring the old glorious sonic days back.

Seriously, just because I have played origina games doesn't mean I'm so much better than anyone else. Everyone has their own opinion. Genesis (which I had/have) is just one of the titles for it. I'm pretty sure it was only called the Genesis for Americans. And yes, some really did have the Mega Drive written on it, just like ours had Genesis written on it.

Sonic 4 promised us retro Sonic...what we got was close, but they still tried to change too much...the sense of speed was lost. This comes much closer to what the fans wanted. And it is obvious why it did. Because it was made by the fans.

If Sega do see this, they should hire the guys that made it to make a proper version for the consoles (ok, and PC, don't yell).. Either that, or they should work on an entirely new Sonic game with all new levels, music, bosses.. these guys really know what they're doing.

I actually Love the more "busy" look of this game. As I watched, it felt to me like the idea was to make the environment(not just the badniks) look like they've been mechanized. There's nothing in the environment to suggest this really and yet, overall that's somehow what it looks like to me just due to the color scheme. Maybe it's the dark shadows or the high sheen of the grass and earth. That would be cool if Robotnik is turning the planet into a machine. He could call it Roboland.

It's sad to think that this fan game looks more presentable and playable than the actual Sonic 4 just shows you how determined some fans will go with making games, with the right minds behind the project you can have a swell looking Sonic game. I think the better phrase would be what sonic 4 should be like. I would've loved to have seen brand new stages, badniks and bosses with this style of graphics. I own sonic 4 as well I kind of got bored with it to be honest but it's still a decent game imo.

While I do agree with you in saying people are too ready to knock a Sonic game as soon as it is released and won't give them a chance, they just don't hold me like the Megadrive titles do. I'm still yet to try Sonic Colors, I have heard good things.

Sonic Colors is amazing! It's like the Unleashed day stages but with actual platforming mixed in! There are over 100 acts to play and 6 acts plus a boss in every area. Music is wonderful as always,camera never bothers you, there are hardly any glitches,and the wisps aren't forced upon you, sure you need to use a few to get to a secret area or collect all of the collectables but you can pretty much play without them.Unfortunatly the VA is bad compared to 4kids VA's (only thing they are good at)
