I am watching your vid smoking EMP right now. Good stuff, but I like Squadron Leader better. 965 is a good one too. If I smoke it on an empty stomach I get a little dizzy.
Anywho, I hope you can get your hands on some soon...they are good smokes.
@Akibatai00 They tend to be more useful sizes/shapes than the other place and the severity of the flaws in finish or engineering isn't as bad. The two I have from there both smoke well and I think that if one of them was polished up properly on a buffer you wouldn't guess it was a basket pipe.
@genericsoul lol! The first thing I thought when I got there was "Nice spot...but the birds are damn loud." Maybe they calmed down a bit by the time I started recording.
Hi Jim, I had the same experience as yourself. By the time I decided to try some Dunhill blends, they were no longer sold in the USA. Maybe they will come back here someday as well. Thanks for the update.
You might be smoking what in the US is called Peter Stokebye Balkan Supreme. It's a bulk blend. Some people say it is bulk version of Balkan Sasieni. Also, I have tried Dunhill Light Flake and it is very similar to Rattray's Brown Clunee. I would be surprised if Light Flake comes back because even in the EU it is gone. The other blends mentioned are still in production and avail in Germany. Cheers.
@GothamCitySmoker Yes. I looked on TR.com and wondered if it might be the same as Balkan Supreme. It does sound quite similar from the reviews there. I don't think it is especially good value here (everything costs pretty much the same regardless of bulk or tin) but it is quite a decent smoke. I will get more if I can.
I was browsing the net last night and came across McGaheys online tobacco shop in the UK. They had a big selection of Dunhill blends listed... by Murrey and Son it says. Probably a red herring.
@Flieger671 I think he still has his web-page unchanged from a while back, as the blends are now made by Orlick...either that or he has stumbled across a cache of old Murray's tins and is selling them at 'normal' prices. That would be quite something!
@PipesterJim I'm sorry to report that as we suspected the Dunhill line at McGahey's is discontinued... BUT, Martin McGahey tells me that he is expecting "some of the Dunhill range back next month"!
@mibgd I looked on TR.com and wondered if it might be the same as Balkan Supreme. From the reviews it sounds like it could be. Either way, there is a lack of Balkan type blends over here (no GL Pease!) so it nice to find a decent one

@tokyopuffer I can't wait to try MM965. I quite enjoy a strong smoke every now and then so I reckon it could be right up my street. Cheers!

@fighterwolf1 Not to far. I am near the Down, on the other side of Brighton.

Oh, and if you're looking for balkan blends, Jim, do try Erinmore Balkan Mixture.
Cheers

@RequiemPipes I have tried Balkan Mixture and it was pretty good. At first I wasn't sure about it but by the end of the tin it had grown on me.

Standard Mixture is good too, in fact I like it better than MM965.
How about Nightcap?
Cheers

@RequiemPipes No mention of Nightcap but we can hope!

Just curious. How did you know the basket pipe that you purchased is better quality than others?

@Shanniquitie Yes, "Ring Out Solstice Bowls!"
(this pun possibly only makes sense to someone who was around in the 70s, or in my case, someone whose musical taste has regressed to the 70s)

@PipesterJim Yeah, you are probably right... but I put in an order for two tins of EMP from them just to see what they say. :)

@Flieger671 Wow...if they come through with it then you have scored big time! I'm keeping my fingers crossed...
