The German fervour and German various empires had been a menace for British colonial and financial hegemony. But in 1944 the UK lost to the USA by Bretton Woods. WW2 made Britain poorer and less powerful. Until today. Coventry was a bombing of industry and military targets. Not of civilian areas at all. This is firmly proven.

You cannot compare Coventry and Rotterdam with Dresden 1945 and Hamburg 1943. Never. This is just insulting to the one million murdered German civilians. Anti-civilian bombings were official policy. The British policy was a sequence of war crimes.

On the 16 Warsaw fell to the Germans and the Polish government fled into exile. Btw, when I was stationed in German, working as a translator, I had occasion to meet several German POW's who did return, several of whom entered the Bundeswehr. The Germans were expelled by the Poles and the Czech in 1945. The Soviets just stood by.

The Germans shot (by instruction) all Political Commisars of the Red Army, but not the ordinary officers and soldiers. Why do you think Andrej Vlassov was captured alive, or his many officers and privates later forming the ROA?

@mc0558 The Soviet historiography considered executed retreating soldiers (victims of the USSR itself) as "victims of Fascism", pro-Axis volunteers from the eastern European and USSR peoples were also considered "Soviet victims". Of course I know about the total civil war behind the front and the harsh tactics, but both sides did take POWs - and many of them. The Soviets annihilated German POWs not on the stop, but in GULAGs from 1944 until 1955. Covered up in New York Times' silence.

@mc0558 The Germans in the prisoner camps did not shoot POWs, and I know numerous POW camps with Soviet soldiers inside Germany; they had camp hospitals. I do agree, that those who were ill beyond healing, were euthanized by camp doctors with lethal injections. That happened indeed. All the rest is atrocity propaganda.

@mc0558 As for Soviet policy: all who had surrendered to Germans as Soviet soldiers were considered traitors and killed after the war by the Soviets themselves. No wonder "less than a million survived". They did not survive post-war "liberation' trials and collective executions and GULAG labour. The Nazis never killed them. Although Soviet POWs mostly got a worse camp regime than British or Free French soldiers (who received luxury of every cost in POW camps) of course. You know nothing sadly.

@mc0558 The Soviet also expelled and killed Germans in northern East Prussia (now Kaliningradskaya Oblast, Königsberg region) and the Memelland themselves (Lithuanians hardly aided the Soviets, whom they considered atheist communist occupiers). I know the Poles and Czechs acted largely autonomously, but it was of course due to Stalin's demands at the Potsdam Conference. But you will probably deny the mass murder of millions of Reich Germans and ethnic Germans from 1945-49 in the east.

@mc0558 About 3.5 to 4 million Germans from eastern provinces of Prussia and from Eastern Europe retreated (out of a total of 16 million ethnic and Reich Germans). Most stayed behind due to too late too little evacuation instructions (Endsieg propaganda). Out of the 4 million, one million returned to Silesia and Pomerania after May 8, 1945 only to be arrested and sometimes killed in prison camps like Potulice and Lamsdorf.
@IustitiaPax 14 million were driven out of their homes in 1945 by the Poles in eastern German provinces that were consigned to the Soviet Union and to Poland. The overwhelming majority fled westwards. Most of them knew that the place to head for was the American Sector. Many went on from there to the United State. The Cold War was starting and they had a ready reception.

@mc0558 As for Western Allied and Soviet policy to win over Germans for their side during the Cold War: this happened only after April 1947! Before that, especially in the western German occupation zones, the spirit of the Morgenthau Plan ruled and starvation rations were given out. Weak and elderly Germans and German refugees starved to death under the eyes of the western Allies. Like 0.9 million captured German POWs had done from Apr 1945 until Aug 1945 in Eisenhower's Rhine Meadow Camps.

Moreover, leading elements in the American government had been fighting the Cold War from 1944 onwards, as soon as it was obvious Hitler's fate was sealed. The US was pumping vast amounts of money and aid into the American sector and then into all three of the western sectors as soon as the war ended. It was to keep the Germans from getting their hands on this aid, that in 47 they the xed Reichsmark and adopted the Deutschmark.

@mc0558 The Deutsche Mark replaced the RM only in 1948, and the Morgenthau Plan as a whole was used as inspiration for the occupation regime especially in the US and French sectors. In fact, the British sector due to Churchill's statements already after August 1946 adopted a milder occupation regime and included more calories, not so the American zone which continued to starve German civilians on purpose. A forgotten fact.

@mc0558 Soviet policy was politically harsh, but as to food rations, from 1945-47 the Soviet occupation zone was more merciful than the western zones with its Morgenthau Plan-inspired occupation regime ("No fraternization!") and starvation rations. Anti-Communists were arrested in the Soviet occupation zones, but Germans were not starved by Stalin per se. (Although in Königsberg and East Prussia the Soviets did kill and starve many until 1948.)

What you are complaining about are various measures adopted by the Allied Control Commission and American military authories, which had to do with the individuals in those bodies and decisions they took at that time, and absolutely nothing to do with the Morgenthau Plan, which was not even the inspiration behind them.

Learn who really started World War 2, how key events were planned by Allied not Axis leaders, how life really was in Germany, that Allies were the ones who committed real war crimes not Germans, how Nazis weren't really supremacists, and how Jews were behind many important actions. The purpose was to incite Germany into doing the very attacks on the British which you are describing. One of so many books on this is Bombing Vindicated by J. M. Spaight. I know it's not easy to admit your country was wrong, but Churchill clearly was either corrupt or mad. Take my recommendations on the books and you'll see I'm right.

On the 16 Warsaw fell to the Germans and the Polish government fled into exile. Everyone saw the Soviet invasion as Stalin occupying parts of Poland before the Germans got it, putting more space between Hitler and Moscow for self defence.

I am referrring to German citizens, although the planned destruction through labour of millions of German POWs in the Soviet Union was a crime against humanity. The Soviet sphere of influence included the People's Republic of Poland and Czechoslovakia (although until 1948 it retained nominal non-allignment). I refer to the genocidal expulsion of Germans after the war. During the war, millions were annihilated too.

Btw, when I was stationed in German, working as a translator, I had occasion to meet several German POW's who did return, several of whom entered the Bundeswehr. The Germans were expelled by the Poles and the Czech in 1945. The Soviets just stood by.

From 1942 until early 1945, few Soviet POWs died. Not to even mention Western Allied starvation policy against German 'disarmed enemy forces' under Eisenhower 1945.

@mc0558 The Soviet historiography considered executed retreating soldiers (victims of the USSR itself) as "victims of Fascism", pro-Axis volunteers from the eastern European and USSR peoples were also considered "Soviet victims". Of course I know about the total civil war behind the front and the harsh tactics, but both sides did take POWs - and many of them. The Soviets annihilated German POWs not on the stop, but in GULAGs from 1944 until 1955. Covered up in New York Times' silence.

@mc0558 The Germans in the prisoner camps did not shoot POWs, and I know numerous POW camps with Soviet soldiers inside Germany; they had camp hospitals. I do agree, that those who were ill beyond healing, were euthanized by camp doctors with lethal injections. That happened indeed. All the rest is atrocity propaganda.

@mc0558 As for Soviet policy: all who had surrendered to Germans as Soviet soldiers were considered traitors and killed after the war by the Soviets themselves. No wonder "less than a million survived". They did not survive post-war "liberation' trials and collective executions and GULAG labour. The Nazis never killed them. Although Soviet POWs mostly got a worse camp regime than British or Free French soldiers (who received luxury of every cost in POW camps) of course. You know nothing sadly.

@IustitiaPax The Nazis never killed POW's. The official figure is 57% of those who surrendered were murdered by the Germans outright. Again, read the figures on Soviet POW's in the article in Wikipedia. Every figure given is footnoted to offical documents.
But yes, the Soviets assumed the worse about POW's who survived the war, especially if they looked fat and sassy. It is they who were sent to the gulag.

@mc0558 The Soviet also expelled and killed Germans in northern East Prussia (now Kaliningradskaya Oblast, Königsberg region) and the Memelland themselves (Lithuanians hardly aided the Soviets, whom they considered atheist communist occupiers). I know the Poles and Czechs acted largely autonomously, but it was of course due to Stalin's demands at the Potsdam Conference. But you will probably deny the mass murder of millions of Reich Germans and ethnic Germans from 1945-49 in the east.

@IustitiaPax Millions of them retreated westwards withthe Wehrmacht. The Poles drove the remainder out; the Czechs kicked out the Sudetenlanders. As for the murder of millions of Germans after the war, I certainly do deny this, because it isn't true. Very quickly, just like Americans policy in west Germany, Soviet policy was to court East Germans for possible use a heated up European war with the Americans.

@mc0558 About 3.5 to 4 million Germans from eastern provinces of Prussia and from Eastern Europe retreated (out of a total of 16 million ethnic and Reich Germans). Most stayed behind due to too late too little evacuation instructions (Endsieg propaganda). Out of the 4 million, one million returned to Silesia and Pomerania after May 8, 1945 only to be arrested and sometimes killed in prison camps like Potulice and Lamsdorf.

@IustitiaPax 14 million were driven out of their homes in 1945 by the Poles in eastern German provinces that were consigned to the Soviet Union and to Poland. The overwhelming majority fled westwards. Most of them knew that the place to head for was the American Sector. Many went on from there to the United State. The Cold War was starting and they had a ready reception.

This makes you a biased discussion partner who refuses to even contemplate massacres of genocidal proportions in Central and Eastern Europe from 1945-1949 (due to the shifting of borders and Benes decrees and Bierut decrees). @mc0558 As for Western Allied and Soviet policy to win over Germans for their side during the Cold War: this happened only after April 1947! Before that, especially in the western German occupation zones, the spirit of the Morgenthau Plan ruled and starvation rations were given out. Weak and elderly Germans and German refugees starved to death under the eyes of the western Allies. Like 0.9 million captured German POWs had done from Apr 1945 until Aug 1945 in Eisenhower's Rhine Meadow Camps.

Moreover, leading elements in the American government had been fighting the Cold War from 1944 onwards, as soon as it was obvious Hitler's fate was sealed. The US was pumping vast amounts of money and aid into the American sector and then into all three of the western sectors as soon as the war ended. It was to keep the Germans from getting their hands on this aid, that in 47 they the xed Reichsmark and adopted the Deutschmark.

@mc0558 The Deutsche Mark replaced the RM only in 1948, and the Morgenthau Plan as a whole was used as inspiration for the occupation regime especially in the US and French sectors. In fact, the British sector due to Churchill's statements already after August 1946 adopted a milder occupation regime and included more calories, not so the American zone which continued to starve German civilians on purpose. A forgotten fact.

@mc0558 Soviet policy was politically harsh, but as to food rations, from 1945-47 the Soviet occupation zone was more merciful than the western zones with its Morgenthau Plan-inspired occupation regime ("No fraternization!") and starvation rations. Anti-Communists were arrested in the Soviet occupation zones, but Germans were not starved by Stalin per se. (Although in Königsberg and East Prussia the Soviets did kill and starve many until 1948.)

@IustitiaPax This is nonsense! The Morgenthau Plan was discussed for a couple of years during the war and finally shelved by FDR. What you are complaining about are various measures adopted by the Allied Control Commission and American military authories, which had to do with the individuals in those bodies and decisions they took at that time, and absolutely nothing to do with the Morgenthau Plan, which was not even the inspiration behind them.

It was a very distressing time and Poles and Czechs settling accounts with Germans both in the provinces Poland received and the Sudetenland was very tough. But the overwhelming majority of Germans in these areas found their way safelty to Germany, Austria, Britain and America.

@mc0558 Yes, of 72 million Reich and ethnic Germans in 1940, 56 million found their way to Allied zones, Austria, Australia, UK and the Communist GDR, but still 14 million died in the process, of whom 7 million outside military structures, due to starvation, terror bombing, massacres, ethnic cleansing and even poisoning attempts and political kangaroo courts. I never stated a majority of Germans died. Neither did a majority of the world's Jews or Russians, let alone English.

@gpmalpas You have to deal with each threat at a time and in the way most suited to its peculiarities, because together they would have been unbeatable. Fortunately, we had the Russians to help up beat Hitler, whose game was aggressive warfare. Then we had the fact that the Russians had adopted a command economy based on terror that was bound to implode. All we had to do was wait it out. We did and it imploded just as Truman predicted with less loss of life than a war would have caused.

I you are saying that they are not ethnic Russian because they they were Jews, Yagoda wasn't. His father was Jewish, but his mother was an ethnic Russian, which made him Russian. Bronstein was officially Jewish, but his paternal grandmother was not. Neither family was religious Jews. Both families intermarried; both were Russian citizens.

Bronstein was entirely Jewish. Apart from leaders, well up into the late 1950s (and in some countries like Hungary even afterwards), the Communist state apparatus was staffed by a Jewish majority. Of course not by Orthodox Jews, these were often only victims of Nazism, or emigrated to the USA etc.

The apparatus of the USSR until the early 1950s was controlled by Jews, of course not by Orthodox Jews (although synagogues were the only religious buildings spared in the USSR up until that date and even afterwards). Soviet diplomacy was also dominated by Jewish Soviet citizens.

Beria was just a very sharp labourer who attracted Stalin's attention. Andropov was a Russian; Chernov was Russion. The only Jew was Yezhov. There were Jews in all parts of the Soviet regime, but they were always a distinct minority!

@mc0558 The Jews controlled the entire Soviet secret police until the 1950s, even if top officials were not Jewish per se after 1939. Still, you cannot overestimate the role of e.g. Maxim Litvinov vis-a-vis Henry Morgenthau Jr. on Lend-Lease Agreement from March 1941 (before Operation Barbarossa, the USA already armed the USSR). Of course many were ethnic Russians too, I never said all Soviet officials were Jewish, but a extremely high proportion was. Due to historical reasons.

That was clear to both men! Stalin expected to be attacked by Hitler in 1942. In fact he was out by a year.

As for Lenin, he was more of original Marxist than Stalin. Stalin's plan to conquer Europe is so real that even mainstream historians admit it. His military developments & movements revealing his intentions are very real. A person people should look to for more info on this is Viktor Suvorov, former Soviet military intelligence officer.
