I love the Doobie Brothers but I can't stand all this commercial Bullshit with the fireworks and the little sluts dancing around...who cares about that shit...I would like to hang the stupid bastards who think of this stupid shit.
Love this band, love this tune and I love the saxophone, just not in this song. There should be more emphasis on the guitar and less on the sax. Don’t remove the sax altogether, just back it off a little.
The sax only adds to the song and makes it better, thanks to the great Marc Russo. Is there anybody better on the sax? Look at bands like Chicago and Earth,Wind & Wire that use Sax to their songs to perfection.
Awesome song and great performance. Could have done without the saxophones...seems like they got carried away just doesn't fit for some reason. But they are still playing great after all these years.
you should check out our video mash-up of Freeland - "Under Control' with The Doobie Brothers - "Long Train Running". We've got loads of stuff like this :)
i think i about killed myself. i went to a show in LA in december and sat next to Tom Johnstone and didn't even realize it till the show was almost over.
@elwenkitty Damn those Doobie Brothers for putting on such a good show that the TV director didn't want the people to miss some legends in the music world.

I got a fever, and the only cure is to keep the same amount of sax.

thats one dangerous sax

I agree that the sax is overdone in some parts of this version... I mean, it sounds great of course, but sometimes simple is better.

the sax is a perfect replacement for the mouth organ. Dig this to fuck! Ripping solo, ace voice, groovy riffs, epic voice, perfect song!

Tommy had throat surgery I heard not too long ago. I loved them. They really should park the bus.

I'm glad the Doobies got the gig.
But they used to sing this song to Redneck bikers.
Now they must suffer the Yuppie Volvo crowd.
It would be great if they turned a couple of Hell's Angel's loose on the audience
and beat up some hapless Ward Cleaver-type.

i've played long train many, many times, but never butchered it like that!
mrmusic1953 2 years ago
Maybe you have been butchering the song. This is Tom Johnston and Patrick Simmons.
