  • I love how old trailers make masterpieces look stupid.

  • Ningún tráiler es posible para Tarkovsky (pretenda, o no, reflejar su lírica)...

  • You may need to correct the info: Sovexportfilm released the English trailer. This Russian Trailer is by Mosfilm.

  • Natalya owns in this movie, such a good performance.

  • I know I've heard that canned music at 1:01 from some Soviet film, but i just can't remember which one...

  • Tarkhovski has pure talent, he delivered in solaris, he delivered in the wrestler and he delivered in the blackswan. All despite of difficulty.

  • @Kingportable are you dumb or just trolling, Darren Aronofsky directed the wrestler and black swan

  • worst trailer ever for a beautiful movie

  • Star Wars and all the pre Star Wars and post Star Wars franchise is trash compared to this movie

Only thing Lucas touched that didn' t suck was THX 1138

but , oh yeah he had to update that with CG .

It was OK but he could have just left it as it was .

    Money grubbing scumbags all

  • @scitsalcoryp

Well, the infamous Mr.Plinkett aka RedLetterMedia agrees with Lucas being a businessman first and a "film-maker" second, then he proceeds to rip the Star Wars movies to shreds in his review.

There was some sci-fi writer who once said:"90% of all sci-fi made is crud." He was right, because most sci-fi focuses on visuals, aliens and futuristic technology, rather than the story. Today it's hard to find a good sci-fi movie.

  • @McLarenMercedes its true but there are some, my favourite being probably gattaca, then you can take on code 45, i think they were the best ive seen these days, i just bought all of tarkovski's movies for my dad, haven't seen any of them, but im sure going to start by this one

  • Ha! They must have put together every single frame of running from the movie to try and sell it as an action-flick. Were the audience ever fooled, but then again they got one of the worlds best sf-movies.

  • As an American, I have the Voyager/Criterion DVD (soon to be replaced by a blu ray edition, featuring blue tinted scenes in place of the original black and white). Where, however, did you obtain this original trailer?

  • the film certainly owned 1968 Stanley Kubrik's 2001: A space odyssey. that's the whole idea. for those who thought the movie was boring, watch them comparatively. and i bet you rolling on the floor laughing over the space odyssey. it's a part of cold war thingy in my opinion and the shallowness of american film.

  • @scavengerrondz

I digress! 'Solyaris' is indeed a masterpiece, but Kubrick's '2001: A Space Odyssey' practically transcends it's medium!

  • @SIngli6 I hope that's a joke

  • @moondogmonologue

It isn't. '2001' is the superior film.

  • @SIngli6 for 2001, the CGI yes it's true. groundbreaking as Avatar does. but solaris led toward the the origin of south park or even monty python IMAO

  • @scavengerrondz CGI? are fucking high 2001 was released in 1968.... there is no CGI in 2001.... and who cares if solaris led to south park? 2001 led to star wars; actually it influenced all sci-fi after it and changed the medium forever. set new heights. its untouchable.

  • @blaiserfilms i'm not a movie hater. yes it was ahead of its time. much money was put in it. have you seen solyaris? i recommend it. watch and judge. maybe laugh a little. :)

  • @scavengerrondz yes i've seen it. i didnt laugh, i dont know what you mean by that... but it is a masterpiece, i loved it. however 2001 had a much greater impact on cinema and please acknowledge that there was in fact NO CGI

  • @SIngli6 shame on bad taste

  • @moondogmonologue

I still love 'Solyaris', Mr. 'Moon'! It's just that I prefer '2001'. Why is that so terrible?!

  • @SIngli6 MISS MOON, TURKENHEIM. It's not terrible, I just disagree.

  • My first (and only) Russian film. I noticed that the credits run before the movie instead of after (a good idea). If anyone knows of any more good Russian films I would appreciate it.

  • @mymovienerd stalker...from the same director...

  • @LarsV3gas123 I just downloaded Stalker the other day, thanks.

  • @mymovienerd How about "Moscow Doesn't Believe in Tears" or Prisoner of the Mountains"

  • I've only seen Stalker by Tarkovskij (a MASTERPIECE), so I don't know him much. I saw however Sodenbergh's version of Solaris, which I liked a lot, but many people told me it doesn't match Takovskij's version and I wouldn't find it hard to believe, honestly. Is this the case?

  • This trailer make one of the greatest picture of all time look like a Bad sci-fi B-movie!

  • La Mejor Adaptacion de la Novela +10

  • GREAT trailer!

  • In 1776, Bishop Ignacy Krasicki–fabulist, poet, and satirist–published the novel The Adventures of Mr. Nicholas Wisdom, the hero of which finds his way to the nonexistent island of Nipu, which is occupied by a utopian society

  • I rented this film on vhs tape and watched it at midnight by myself. It was fantastic, films like these have low budgets but the story line is beyond anything Hollywood can produce. Written by polish author Stanislaw Lem, who is one of sci-fi's master writers. Anyone who hates this film should ask themselves why Cameron and Soderberg would remake it.

  • Great

  • is that doctor mcoys brother

  • Я открыла европейского музыканта, электронная музыка которого очень созвучна этому фильму, в высшей степени интеллигентна и талантлива.

Познакомьтесь с PalatinProject ! Это новая тема к размышлению о значении человека...

  • trailer is a shit.

    movie is fantastic.

  • the main character arriving at solaris descends thru cloud towards the space lab(above an ocean), then,at the end, the camera ascends above an island surrounded by ocean-what does this mean + also, what about the symbolic actions of the characters thruout the time in the space lab?

  • Genius film. This brutal trailer is obviously the work of some hacks at the film distro.

  • this film isnt for everyone

  • @ClaudeFrollon but it is far superior to the Clooney remake

  • Correct me if Iam wrong, but isn't "Sunshine" a remake of this movie? Alot of plot similarities it seems...

  • I saw this movie on dvd just yesterday. I have not read the Lem´s story but liked this film very much. I do not think it´s confusing or whatever. Just the original Russian sound in the trailer has surprised me ... our sound was much better - voices above all .. :o)

  • Ok, i saw Solaris two years ago knowing absolutely fuck all about it before. I was pretty amazed by the film, the music the scenario acting etc. I am certainly not a fan of Hollywood cinema but Solaris was a quite good film. Now the older Russian version looks good as well i have seen the last scene and am looking forward to finding it as a whole from net. My point is enjoy things without comparing, just enjoy good art and stop blabbering.

  • @Unilka so have you found the movie from net? if you are could you send me a link . thank you

  • @nomint, click on the link below:

search for solaris tarkovsky then you will see that the entire film is uploaded.

    enjoy it :)

  • @Unilka sorry i didnt get the link

  • @nomint it seems like when i put the direct link here something goes wrong. I sent the link to your account. You can have access to it from there. Cheers!

  • Sorry didnt like it - maybe because I was expecting a sci-fi film. This film exploits the sci-fi genre as a vehicle for a psychodrama that could have been made in any genre. I know the film deals with deep and powerful human psychological issues with novel elegance but I dont care I didnt enjoy it. The acting was great but the plot and script were so detached and abstract that it makes me wonder if everyone who said they enjoyed this is lying just to look intellectual.

  • @Fianna10

Exploits? Really? Stop being so defensive of your beloved genre.

PS - I don't like this film either personally but not because it is violating a tired, hugely generalized genre.

  • Одличан филм!

    Отличный фильм!

  • This movie is nothing short of amazing.

  • this movie was nothing short. it was very very long

  • the remake was excellent and the production value far better than the orginal. fair credit to the orginal but also the remake

  • the remake was absolutely awful.

sodoberg is one of the very worst directors & Clooney one of the worst actors out there.

  • FANTASTIC movie! I can't believe George Clooney acted in a shit-ass remake of it. If I were an actor, I wouldn't do a stupid thing like that for all the money in the world.

  • Hollywood does not understand art, only fast action, grizzly monsters and explosions. They can spend millions of dollars on a movie yet it lacks the feeling that these type of Tarkovskij films have.

  • Isn't that kind of a stereotype? I certainly agree with you, but don't let guys like Michael Bay speak for all involved in Hollywood.

  • it's not remake -_-

it's based on book - "Solaris" Stanisław Lem!

so it's the next adaptation, next vision of the world that Lem desrcibe in book.

the concept like - remake- can only exist ( I think, well i'm pretty sure ) if you take the tarkovski's film as a original

sorry, but I'm readin "Solaris" now; and you pissed of me ;P/ you hadn't knonw about the book?

    salute!

  • Saw this today. It was really really great

  • mamadas

  • fuck u

  • Sovexportfilm - their intentions were good :)

I'm happy that I didn't see the trailer before I first saw the movie in 1986 )

  • a masterpiece!

  • I saw the trailer to this movie on TV back in 1972 and it was only until this past summer when I actually got to see it (DVD as birthday present); amazing film!

  • The trailer really doesn't do the film justice.

  • Favoritski filmi, spasiba.

  • this movie is so over the top awsome!

  • Comment removed

  • am i dreaming or not?

Banionis looks a bit like Frisch minus glasses

  • I really love this movie - so emotional, so deep, so strange, so scary, so exciting...

    Brilliant acting

  • amazing movie with some of the most interesting, psychologically-manipulative cinematography I've ever seen. Tarkovsky is a beast.

  • handbags at dawn you two?

  • that is the point like most things in life there is no logic

  • xdeiri... you're decoherent...

  • the original movie and the cloony movie the novel the director are just work of masterpiece though i prefer the new version

  • Where's the logic? Just don't get it...

  • This trailer works - you have no clue about the movie, but you want to understand it. Depends on the audience you want to reach - certainly the worst thing you can do if you want to entertain the masses, that's for sure.

  • If you haven't seen the film, then you won't get the trailer! That's a bit silly. My remake starring Ernesto the cat explains more!

    FC

  • really horrible trailer. This has nothing to do with the real beauty of this movie.

  • This film is a masterpiece, but I'm afraid it is too difficult for you Western guys to understand !!

  • I've understood perfectly Solaris by Andreij Tarkovskij and really appreciated it. Have you understood 2001: a space odyssey?

  • Sniff:Bigot

  • !!!

  • Wha??? This is the trailer? What were they thinking?

  • @morethansalt...

maybe the question is: what are you thinking.

    or: are you thinking?

  • Why, dumpsky- I'm thinking that your intelligence is lesser than mine, AND that you have no idea who I actually am,and that is why you feel able to be supercilious and rude towards me online.

  • oh... i'm absolutely sure that you actually THINK my intelligence is lesser than mine. did you, btw, notice the contradiction in your narcissistic ramblings???

1st you just assume my level of intelligence, although you don't know me.

then, you say that i have no idea who you are. that is classic whimpy shit!!! do you always ask vague questions instead of writing real comments?

    final conclusion: you're a wuss.

    P.S.: i'm pretty happy that i don't know you.

  • Awful!

  • Horrible trailer, superb film.

Tarkovskij is one of the most underrated directors of history.

It's all the fault of the Soviet government, which prevented the film tarkovskij leaving the russia.

If his films were distributed normally, it would have been loved, and rewarded like other European directors as fellini and bergman.

  • is this movie worthy i did watched stalker and even i loved the direction ,photography etc it lacked storyline

  • @490295 that's tarkovski for you (by the way, have you red the book the film is based on?). he is very metaphisical, which in case of adaptations of lem's books, doesn't do them justice. having said that, the films are worth seeing.

  • @solaryus Bergman's favorite director was Tarkovsky. They were good friends. Shame about the Cold War limiting his exposure to Western audiences.

  • @solaryus I take your point but I think that actually these days he IS appreciated amongst the top European directors. Perhaps it took more time than with Fellini etc. But anyone who is into film has some kind of relationship with Solaris, and many have gone on to others of his.

  • can i find this dubbed ?

  • Yes, the DVD has dubbing in a number of languages, including English.

  • Trailers are great for Hollywood flicks, not Tarkovsky's masterpieces.

  • I think the trailers are great for Hollywood flicks, not Tarkovsky's masterpieces. I am glad I had never seen this before.

  • im surprised they didnt show the trailer in the dvd.
