The Dolan Uyghur clothing much remind of the Balkar traditional clothing: high hats, both on ladies covered with a headscarf over, and men - high Astrakhan fur hats, long dark well-tailored gowns over white clothing with long pants on ladies and dark gowns over white clothing on men. Also dance movements are quite similar. The Balkar people are from the Caucasus, they are the descendants of the ancient Bulgars - the original Caucasians, speak a Turkic language. There is a definite link here.

Meshrep is a traditional cultural ceremony of Uighurs in which they come together and dance, sing and also teach young generation about the Uighur culture and religion of Islam. However, since 1995 Meshrep ceremony is officially banned by the Chinese government. It is only permitted to be held Meshrep on TV (only dance and sing). Meshrep ceremony's history goes back 9th century, last yr UN listed Uighur Meshrep as a cultural heritage under threat.

I saw much better performances of Uygur dancers. Here is one big mess: poor choreo, just one big chaos. I bet their choreo was made by one "modern Chinese" choreographer: one million people on the stage, no personalities and everything looks like a mix u-shu and chear leaders.
Uyghur dances, especially dances performed by womens are supposed to be very beautifull, soft, and elagant. but this one has more chinese influence. womens acting same with mans ,very rough, ugly actions and jumping . this is not traditional uyghur dance,but is a mixture of uyghur dance and chinese dances or geymnastics.

The Turks of Turkey descend from us, Uyghurs, because Uyghur Seljuks were those who moved to the West to explore new lands, conquered Bysantium, later founded the Osman and Ottoman Empires.

Meshrep is a traditional cultural ceremony of Uighurs in which they come together and dance, sing and also teach young generation about the Uighur culture and religion of Islam. However, since 1995 Meshrep ceremony is officially banned by the Chinese government. It is only permitted to be held Meshrep on TV (only dance and sing). Meshrep ceremony's history goes back 9th century, last yr UN listed Uighur Meshrep as a cultural heritage under threat.

I saw much better performances of Uygur dancers. Here is one big mess: poor choreo, just one big chaos. I bet their choreo was made by one "modern Chinese" choreographer: one million people on the stage, no personalities and everything looks like a mix u-shu and chear leaders.

It is incredible how Uyghur-Chinese peoples arguments against and for each other are so similar to those Turks-Kurds have in Turkey. Whether they talk friendly or with animosity, the bottom line is Uyghurs and Kurds want a land they can call their own country, and Chinese and Turks have no intention of giving them a piece of land. If millions of people think of themselves as a distinct nation, they deserve a country of their own or a federation that recognizes their nationality & sovereignty.

The oldest paper in world was found in Hotan and there were Uyghur written on it. If u google you know where hotan located. It is very ancient Uyghur city. Socalled China is only exist since 1849. The terrototy of China now has been Ruled by Mongols for more then 300 years(check out the history of chinese moon cake). Later on by Manju (manzu) people. They are Altayic people. They are not Han Chinese.

Uyghurs never had belly dance, that comes from the times of Ottoman Empire and was borrowed from Arabs.
The Turks of Turkey descend from us, Uyghurs, because Uyghur Seljuks were those who moved to the West to explore new lands, conquered Bysantium, later founded the Osman and Ottoman Empires.
Look at Özbeks, their culture is closely related to us and they do not have belly dance either. In fact, Özbeks are our closest relatives, languagewise, culturewise... and probably genetically.

I think that in a multi-cultural country every culture should be respected and preserved. This applies to the preservation of the language, too.
But I hear from official sources in the EU that the Chinese government is trying to close down Uyghur schools, that University education is predominantly in Chinese and education in Uyghur is simply eventually eliminated.
Many han Chinese here in Tube say appauling things about Uyghurs, trying to make Uyghurs feel bad about beeing an Uyghur.

I am not from East Turkestan, but I am ethnically Uyghur and I love Uyghurs, Uyghur culture, everything Uyghur. I was raised to be proud of being an Uyghur.
By passing nasty comments about Uyghurs and Uyghur culture on Tube, han Chinese only make enemies with many people outside China, because there are Uyghurs elsewhere, like myself.
I used to make friends with han Chinese here in EU, but since Tube I, well, don't make friends with han Chinese anymore and I understand Uyghur separatism.

20 people killed during Olympics includes some Uighurs. Please, not all Uighurs are terrorists. Most Uighurs suffer from the inconviences imposed on them by these checks.
Discrimination is not what we want in China. All these severe checks on particular ethnic groups may exert such negative side effects.

Like Han assimilated other cultures and ethnics in East (and central ) China, Uighurs did the same in Western China. In Xinjiang many more cultures and ethnics interacted/interbred with each others in the past.

I remember this group performed at Beijing National Stadium during Olympic Games Opening Ceremony when ethnic groups from all over China danced in s short segment.

but before they enter that stadium,chinese police forced them to take off all their clothes in the name of "safety check". those poor womans cried for this humuliation.all of this just because they are uyghurs.
