This saddens me. Not so much because it happened, but because very few people seem to get how big of a deal this is to many Aggies of the past & present.
First off, ring dance is completely different than this, and secondly the issue is that it was held in the Fag Room. Do you see those POW MIA, Marine Corps, Navy, Army, flags etc...? This room was just about the most inapproprate place to hold this event. You all are right, you can express yourselves in this manner if you choose, but the flag room was NOT the place for it, ya'll should have done it in one of the closed off rooms in the MSC, NOT the flag room.
Does every memorial, remembrance, graveyard have to be somber? Why can't we celebrate the lives of those who came before us? Celebrate all the lives of the fallen and loved? Celebrate what they mean to Texas A&M and all that they have done for our country and our university? I don't think there was any disgrace to the MSC or the Flag Room. Open your eyes to the passion, reverence, and unity that was displaced during this event.
ts B.S. maybe a couple people, the initiators of it, maybe they had that in mind. everyone else came cause it was a flash rave. i seriously doubt less than a quarter of these people were here for the reason you say they were. and even less believed they were celebrating the lives of fallen aggies. I'd put my money on the fact that most of these people here dont go to silver taps and dont go to muster.
Hey, so for anyone with the "Would you dance on someone's grave?" argument, here's a fun little tidbit of information to silence you. RING DANCE, was held in the MSC this year, and has been traditionally held there since the 50's. It's Aggie tradition to "dance on their graves".
This building is a memorial to all the Aggies who have served and fallen in our nation's wars. This is a brazen display of the crass respect majority of the student body have towards the University's traditions and foundation. I'm appalled to count myself an Aggie in the company such as these.
Yes, the MSC is a memorial, but it's not a granite statue that's only meant to be looked at and photographed from afar. It's a place for students to study, eat, socialize, have fun, and most importantly, make memories of their time at A&M. I think that this celebration is a living representation of everything the MSC has come to stand for.
Also, the MSC has a bowling alley, pool tables, and a Dance Dance Revolution machine in the basement. Just some food for thought.
Yes, and those features are in the basement. Not in a room full of outfit and military flags in remembrance of the individuals for whom this building stands. Unfortunately, too few people care to take and responsibility for themselves or their country, which is why I think such a brazen display of ignorance ever even occurred.
If this is what you've learned at A&M regarding and honoring our traditions, then maybe many of you need to reconsider where you are going to school.

(cont.) Every person who came, came because they wanted to show the world how much the MSC and Texas A&M have meant to them.
