I believe it depends on a lot of factors such as platform and release number. Your best bet is to use Cisco's feature navigator to see if what you have will support it. You can find it here... h-t-t-p-:-/-/-tools.cisco.com/ITDIT/CFN/jsp/index.jsp
Let me know if you ever come to Ann Arbor Mi and I will get you a beer!

PS: PBR works great on my router.. thanks again..
Hi, yes, you can run ip sla on a router running a routing protocol. You should do some labs to be sure it works the way that you expect before putting it into production though.
I'm not positive but I believe "ip sla" came out in version 12.4
The threshold is not the number of pings you can lose, it is the value in milliseconds that the operation is expected to complete in. If the value of the ping rtt exceeds the threshold you will see:
As I don't create these vids with a script. I sometimes misspeak. I usually catch errors when editing and add a pop-up bubble window with the correction. But not always. Thanks for catching my error. I'll get around to adding a bubble for it in the future.
Hello,
Which Feature is necessary on the IOS Router to provide the IP SLA Route Tracking option? IP Base Feautre? Data Feature? Security Feautre? . Regards

How can I no if my router is capable of IP SLA?
eqdryxl2011 3 months ago
@eqdryxl2011
Type "ip ?" at the (config)# prompt. If you "sla" as an option. You're good to go.

@CovertSecOps
yes im doing it on a lab,
i've download the 12.4 version, when you type "ip sla ?" only occured "monitor"
no "rtr" command.., may be its on 12.5 version, is there any..??
so because mine is an OLD router with OLD IOS, i'm thinking to replace it thou..
thanks again for the help.

@coblain
The "rtr" swtich goes with the "track" command. Not the "ip sla" command.
12.4 should work fine.
Have another look at the video and be sure that you're entering the commands in the correct place.
Let me know if I'm not understanding. I'll do my best to help out.

The threshold is not the number of pings you can lose, it is the value in milliseconds that the operation is expected to complete in. If the value of the ping rtt exceeds the threshold you will see:
Latest operation return code: Over threshold
in your "show ip sla statistics" commands

@buldamoosh
Yes, I misspoke. But your description is actually the timeout value. Cisco's verbiage regarding timeout...
The timeout Sets the amount of time an IP SLA operation waits for a response from its request packet.
... this is the value within which the operation is expected to complete.

@buldamoosh
The threshold is how soon after a timeout that statistics will be available for viewing, alerting etc. Cisco's verbiage regarding threshold...
The threshold Sets the upper threshold value for calculating network monitoring statistics created by an IP SLA operation
