A company I used to work for, used hemp in several of their products. The literature we had about hemp noted the THC in hemp is considerably minute & it would take a joint the size of a telephone pole to get high off it.

Wonderful radio broadcast, thanks for posting. Hugh Downs was a good man. Now that we have found that THC cures cancer and other medical issues, they may have to come around. The problem is both the profit motives of the big drug companies, and the lack of ability to think clearly (heh) of the anti-drug crowd. They're too full of self-righteous religious fervor to consider they might be wrong about consciousness-alterating medicines.

I tried to explain this in a paper I did on Cannabis once but people didn't seem to get it and still don't get it! Hemp IS Cannabis, Cannabis IS Hemp. Whether its the female Cannabis plant or the male Cannabis plant, it is HEMP, dam!. I read some of these comments with people informing others that Hemp is not pot, but it IS, I'm not saying its a bad thing, I think its a great thing. They are one in the same no matter what your opinion is or what you think.

Marijuana is derived from the same plant as broccoli and cauliflower. Since the government sees hemp as dangerous since it can produce a "lethal" drug, broccoli and cauliflower must be dangerous too. I demand an immediate nationwide ban on broccoli.

That or the government admits they banned hemp in the 1930's to make sure the oil, timber, paper, ect. industries wouldn't have to compete with a wonder plant.

The only thing they banned hemp its because it can be cultivated everywhere. It is competitive against oil companies and cigarettes and alcohol companies. Without marijuana, people had no choice but rather to buy their alcohol, oil, and cigarettes. Which mean it will give them more profits without marijuana. So to my conclusion, if people cannot have hemp- which is available everywhere; that a well-grown plants theres a big chance they can make more money. And by chance injecting propaganda!

I only noted the use of the words hemp and marijuana interliked, this is a problem in my eyes. It was this same tactic that lead to this plants ban in America and by keeping them linked it only perpetuates the myth that the 2 plants are the same. They are not.

When this ban started in the 1930s people never knew that marihuana was hemp. I believe that it should go back to that perspective and more focus be put upon the differences if any head way to leagalize it is to be made.

I share your frustration. I feel as if this issue has been distorted to a "draft card burning and war protesters" stigma. My advice is to be as informed as possible on this issue.

To put it simply, hemp has the capacity to enrich the world as a whole. That is a huge claim, but I can explain for days how this is true. Keep giving props to hemp, and be prepared to argue with those who are less informed. Peace

HEMP. Clean fuel, strong fibers, biologically perfect for human consumption(seeds), never killed anyone, cleaner and longer lasting paper, clothes etc...HEMP can be grown over and over in undesirable soil without depleting its nutrients. 2000 gallons of ethanol per acre can be harvested from hemp. And that is for un-genetically tampered Hemp. That's 6.6 times the energy output of corn. It's as if God furnished us with the perfect plant of prosperity and a few corporate dicks made it illegal.
