Renee is one of the foremost interpreters of Strauss lieder and opera. If that weren't the case there wouldn't be dozens upon dozens of recordings of her singing strauss' music. Her diction is very on point actually, and she doesn't even come close to pulling her tongue back. Study the Swedish-Italian school of music and learn something!
I've really tried to be open-minded with this singer as many of my friends adore her...I don't get her I guess. Nothing personal but crappy diction; strange vocals from pulling tongue back...I've never been a fan.
@minakontog Caballe's version with orchestra and Bernsteing conducting is right up there too. But I agree with you, Auger was genetically uncapable of turning in a poor recording.
I think I prefer the intimacy of a piano and voice combination to the orchestral arrangement of this romantic mood poem. Fleming's interpretation and rich register breathe life into it. Thanks for adding this to her repertoire on utube.

I think it must be very difficult because you have to watch keeping the timing so much. In my Opinion she is doing very well.

I love how her weight varies EXTREMELY between videos, in very short time spans. Just sayin.

The best performance ever of this beautiful Lied is from Arleen Auger.
