  • That's so stupid... I SWEAR! There's so much wrong statements and ideas about muscle in this video.... Here's one thing... when you're chain punching.... what pulls your elbow back to deliver the next punch... THE BICEP! This video... BS

  • @EBB47 He's saying the biceps dont help the punch because the biceps purpose is to contract the arm quicker. Theyre saying that the triceps are the main aspect when DELIVERING a powerful punch, not taking it back. The sifu is saying people tense up the biceps when punching which doesnt help anything.

  • I find it strange how they speak against bruces biceps when they are crucial for pulling. They'll only stand in the way if contracted at same time. And if the guy in the video was to disagree with me there, then why also does he state that they work on the lat muscles? Their main function is pulling the elbow back. Which is the opposite of forward. Where your opponents face is. don't mean to sound blunt.

  • @Pezzy54321 People still believe in the old musclebound myth. No matter how much evidence you give them and no matter that all the top athletes in every sport now train with weights, you'll always hear bullshit like this. I bet if you told him that you do chinups and pushups or dips, he wouldn't have a problem with that. But if you show him a barbell, suddenly you hear all the bullshit.

  • the little bald headed guy in the clip isnt doing very well he got beat down 3 times haha

  • In any form of fighting training the body is key. I like Wing Chun but Leung Ting is whack. Bruce said it himself, "too many martial artists focus to much on just learning technique, and not enough on training the body." Proper conditioning and technique mastery is the key to a truly powerful/accurate/fast strike.

  • These wing chun guys talk bad about Bruce Lees body, but I guarantee that Bruce Lee had a much harder punch than any of these guys and would completely destroy them in a real fight, regardless of whether he has "whooping" biceps or not.

These guys are deluded IMO. I understand what they are trying to say but there are needs for weight training also...its all about finding a balance.

  • @SkemeKOS I agree, this whole show is garbage far as I see. talking about certain muscle group is a weaken & their encourage muscle imbalance. come on, physics, body mechanics, anatomy, training, what makes the move not this bicep bs.

  • Leung Ting has no idea how the biceps work, apparently. During a punch, whether your biceps are large or small makes no difference because when punching properly you won't be using them anyway.

  • @IMBW89 You are totally correct.

  • i myself have practice under lt lineage some time ago. I found it didnt offer a realistic, modern interpretation of the techniques as this a branch of ma that used to be all about changing with the times. Ive since found an instructor that does offer this and despite his techniques flying in the face of those who beleive all too much that wc is a 'soft' style, it is much more realistic and does not encourage sticking to a set style. there is no such thing. Be like water my friend :P

  • What a gullible host. Holy shit, so you use your tricep to extend your arm? Tell me more!

  • "Leung Ting- the brains behind the leading brand of Wing Tsun... "

I guess that is true. He's the brainiest marketer in Europe.

Doesn't make it moral... only true.

  • and if ur the type of person who engages in sport combat (mma etc) for some sort of gratification, then ur learning for all the wrong reasons and probably likely to have some ego and innadequacy issues that you need to talk to someone about.

Possibly before you start frequenting bars dressed as a lady.

  • like someone pretty famous once said,

take what u find useful and discard everything else.

And at the end of the day, if u cant apply ur skill in 'real' combat, where ur life might be in danger, then u may as well be a grandmaster of tiddlywinks.

  • @higherrights

Exactly, its for this reason that MMA fighters are the very best on the planet and are FAR ahead of these wing chun/tsun guys.

These guys couldnt win a fight against a drunk in a bar.

MMA has found what works and what doesnt. Bruce Lee and the Gracies can be thanked for that.

  • @SkemeKOS thats exactly what i mean, youre limiting yourself into thinking that someone has to be a 'wing chun' guy or a 'tkd' guy etc. it just isnt like that for those of us appreciate anything we can use from 'all' different corners. i know a vast amount of guys that practice wc and dont in any way limit themselves to just that, and thats why they are effective. Why dont you ask one of the gracies camp what they think of emile boztepe or keith kernspecht?. and ...mma is a sport?

  • @higherrights sorry, emin boztepe, lol

  • @higherrights

Exactly. Someone who crosstrains will always have the advantage in a fight.

I cant exactly ask the Gracie camp what they think about those guys because I dont know the Gracies personally. I do know that Carlson Gracie likes Samuel Kwok wing chun.

MMA is not a sport but it can and IS used for sport also. Like the UFC for example.

Those guys are the best fighters of all time in my opinion.

  • Which as it happens is very different to wrestling with each other in a gym wearing ur pyjamas :P

  • to giov and lucitaur,

wc or wt, is not for sport, it cannot be made full use of IN a sport for that reason.

If eye gouges and jabs and strikes to the neck and groin etc were allowed then i think u may actually find its v useful as a skill. It is a skill to enable u to defend urself and it scales depending on the threat u are facing. its really that simple.

at the end of the day, its not the what u learn, the technique or 'style', its how good a fighter u are. Under pressure, in 'real' combat.

  • i want to kick that chink fuck's ass so bad

  • Not many ppl know this but did u know Leung Ting is the youngest and last living student of Ip Man besides his two sons...

  • Such utter utter bullshit

  • @JonathanBloggs Good think that you are master of universe and know what's bullshit and what's not, eh?

I simply love ignorant people like you.

  • @Lucitaur Oh yeah I'm only a guy that's been practising martial arts for 15 years and competed in over a dozen MMA tournaments, what would I know about this stuff?

Learn to think for yourself you fucking mark

  • @JonathanBloggs Not much it seems.

If you did and if you knew how to think for yourself, you wouldn't say nonsense like you do.

  • @Lucitaur Ok smart arse, explain to me exactly how mike tyson punched so hard despite his large biceps, explain to me why no wing chun practitioner has ever won a major striking competition (boxing, kickboxing, k1, san shou, savate etc.) The mechanics of a powerful punch have little to do with tricep power and more to do with transmitting leg power and bodyweight through your arm (which the bicep helps to stabilise). Wing Chun has remarkably weak punches when compared to any other style.

  • @JonathanBloggs I agree on that part all this tricep being most important for strong punch is kinda, well, silly.

Boxers have by far strongest punches and they have it with a reason.

Tricep is important for punches used in Wing Chun since they rely on lighting fast and precise punches to weak points (lot of them being neck) witch can be lethal.

That's also reason why you wont see Wing Chun in competitions like K1 since lot of moves are forbidden there and are used by Wing Chun.

  • @Lucitaur Good explanation dude. :)

  • @Lucitaur Wing Chun, is useless in MMA, K-1 and in others combat sport, get real men!

  • @Samboussr is it useful as self defense?

  • @Giovannisenzaterra yes Wing Chun or Wing Tsun, is effective in self defense no doubt, but against a well round it fighter you have no chance.

  • @Samboussr Che significa well round it?

  • Sammo is cool man!:)

  • That guy was such a pratt.

  • GM my ass.

  • I love that man. BANG BANG BANG BANG! :D

  • honestly i would not want to be the ak 47 of punching machins...they jam to often

  • @nentendoboy12 stick to ur nintendo dude there one of the most reliable rifles today

  • the same guy from fight quest

  • i think sifu Wan is better..more practical then LT. Thats why Wan open his school a street up.

  • Is ting part of the hong kong freemason and illuminati?

  • @blkettlebell what you on drugs? Martial Artist doesn't go into organization sh*ts like Freemasons or illuminati, basically the government those but not this dedicated man.

  • I think they have good shoulders to do wing chun too

  • Everything LT is saying, doing, and his attitude are in line with what Ive observed from his student. This guy is someone to listen to.

  • leung Ting = worst ever

  • who cares hahahaha love it

  • "What will happen to him?"

"Who care??? he's an enemy!!" LFMAO

    that's the best line here

  • @sokonlon for real thats wats street fighting is about!!!, da hell with rules

  • @wingchunexpert

What do you know, i found the original article.

    3news.co.nz/Kiwi-stuntman-the-most-dangerous-man-on-the-planet/tabid/728/articleID/107251/Default.aspx

Its actually about Glen Levy, and even tho that is a national news website it still sounds wrong.

  • Are jew goin choo put da finga in che fain?

JEW PUT ONE FOOT ON BWAKE ONE FOOT ON DA GAS AND AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • so triceps giv u stronger punches, better do more push ups den

  • Usually (and I say usually) UFC or MMA athletes wouldn't wait for you in a dark alley... yes in the ring Wing Tsun isn't top but on a footpath in south London when there are crackhead hoodies after your phone/wallet, you realise the benefits it has three broken arms and two unconscious muggers later.

Cops? - in the UK you have a licence to practice Wing Chun and legal self defence in its entirety is explained to you. one legal move is a head stamp, but that's just not cricket. :) peace :)

  • @nictamerepute I to live in the lovely south london , NOT, yes there are some right shit bags about. But anything goes if you get approached my the wrong crowd. Peace dude.

  • @SausageNipple Leung Ting (along with others i think) claim to be the last person/s taught by Grandmaster Ip Man, and also therefore the most schooled and advanced practitioners.

A LOT of this is hush hush and it seems to me that a big theme with wing chun nowadays is not teaching the real, old form (which is about how to kill quickly) but about money and who has claim to what. I did some digging, found a really old instruction manual in chinese, took it to my Sifu and learned Wing Chun.

  • 2:15 AAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

  • Looks like an underworld secret society.

  • Leung Ting is a con-man . hahahhahahaha

  • @bigfatdick5000 he certainly is!! a Wife Beater as well!! he got sent to jail!!! :] he has ruined the wonderful martial art of Wing Chun.... Wing Tsun... what a joke, it's shameful to know that Ip Man unknowingly wasted his time conveying even the least amount of principles of Wing Chun.

  • @intirayami

On April 29, 2010, the conviction was quashed by Court of First Instance Judge Darryl Gordon Saw. Judge Saw ruled that the medical reports did not support Lip's testimony but did support Leung's testimony. Leung was cleared of all charges.[7][8]

    just so you know~

  • @308473mb still, i must say, he's quite funny as he claims to be a closed door student of Ip Man, even though he wasn't wearing the arm band at Ip Man's funeral, and he is actually a 5th generation student.. that technically makes him my younger kung fu brother... :)

  • Bruce's muscles were exactly what is needed for a fight. He was toned and faster and stronger than any wing chun man so what are they talking about?

  • @shiest13 actually bruce lee was faster without his muscles LOL...

  • @shiest13 I think what they were saying is that biceps aren't really needed in a fight, it's the triceps. Most people having big biceps would tend to abuse them, so they just say that it's detrimental to your punching ability to have them. Bruce lee did have muscles that the wing tsun trainer considered beneficial to punching power (have you seen him flex his lats?) I think the show just misunderstood what he was trying to say.

  • Weight training will make you faster. My old boxing coach (60's) will agree w this. He went nuts on me when he found out I spent a summer in the weight room, and bannging the bag. But I was about 5 lbs heavier, and hit a lot harder, moved better. Getting bulky is too much work. getting huge doesn't come easy. Getting stronger is the objective. A bit of size will come too

  • The heavy set guy was the co star in bloodsport. Good actor, because I thought he was naturally evil .. Looks like, not so

  • @sparwood8 No. You're thinking about Bolo Yeung. Samo Hung worked with Jackie Chan alot.

  • @videozone79 Thanks.

  • @sparwood8 that heavy set guy is Sammo Hung. Bolo Yeung was the guy who played Van Dam's nemesis in bloodsport.

  • I cannot help but like this guy. Awesome sense of humour

  • @theawakener7 You do know that boxing is a sport which is meant to entertain people and wing chun is a martial art which is meant for defending yourself against other people?

  • i think his wing chun is very effective..... against pregnant women !

  • @HehxDD also against pregnant women but also against fighters...:

  • robertojerez wtf do u no did u no bruce lee??stop talking shit...same goz 2 u mr huey stop talking as if u no these guys....u dnt no shit

  • aaaand bruce lee didnt have any biceps, his strenght was in his forearms and triceps, he knew all too well to develop a bulky biceps...and he also knew how to use weight lifting for particular purposes, his training was never directed at how his muscles look on the screen, except for the face and killer screams if you like...can you tell he is my childhood hero hahaha, shitty intro B Lee knew better than that master.

  • Recently, Leung even asked his fellow student, Kwok Keung, to defend his lies in front of a reporter. Fortunately, Kwok said that he really has learnt some WC skills from Yip Man, but both of them called Yip Man "Si Goan," which means 'the teacher of their teacher' in cantonese. This proves that Leung is not the student of Yip nor the last student of Yip. Once again, it is okay to not be the student of Yip to play great WC, but he shouldn't lie over and over again.

  • Furthermore, he claims himself as the last student of Yip Man who was the teacher of Bruce. It turns out he is only the student of Yip Man's student. Some of you might think that there is nothing wrong to be the student of Yip's student. Yes,, I agree, but then why he has to lie about it. Obviously, he wants to take the fame and earn himself more money because many people really care about who he has learnt his WC from.

  • What they say about Bruce Lee's biceps are disadvantages of Wing Chun is pure dumb. Bruce Lee didn't only do Wing Chun. He did all kinds of martial arts. Yes, he liked Wing Chun the most. However, he has even invented his own system, JKD, in his later years. I really hate Leung Ting as a person. He always takes advantages from Bruce Lee, but he also criticizes on him. He always tells his followers that Bruce Lee didn't know WC at all.

  • u say u need bicepz to pull yur arm back faster, but in wing chun or ving tsun while ur pulling back ur arm towards ur body your other arm is already in the opponents face and vice verser

  • he said who cares

  • leung ting is a fucking fraud

  • ...it is not that wing chun..but it is a wing chun...

  • Uh....If this style is anything like Wing Chun, it focuses on centerline and the forward motion right? In that case, you don't "retract", you drive forward. Thrust your centerline forward and launch another attack. True, strong bodyframe is very important....I would recommend you get in shape. A strong body does not mean a tensed body. Strong and relaxed is what you want.

  • thank u samo 4 beenig 4 us

  • Biceps are still useful in martial arts for grappling and quick retraction for blocking punches/ kicks aimed at ur face etc

  • leung ting looks so indian!

  • I have been a Wing Chun student for 30 years, and a teacher for 20. If you practice the 1st section of the 1st form of Wing Chun properly it will developed the WHOLE arm. Your triceps and biceps with developed equally and give you enough power to deliver devastating punches and withdraw the hand lightning fast. As long as your focus is on developing a relaxed punch with last second power, you WILL punch hard enough to rapidly disable an opponent with Wing Chun.

  • umm...

im currently a wing CHUN student

training under grandmaster jim fung/chu shong tin.

    different much????

  • very different buddy. I'm glad you chose that school, I admire that school alot.

  • Ya know, im a WingTsun student. I've met GGM Leung a few times, and had a great time learning from him. If anyone has this tosh to say about his wingtsun, why don't you take your big attitude and test it on a WingTsun instructor.... Then tell me how important your biceps are....

  • Wow sammo hung droppe by

  • @olympicsnow I just read your post, I agree bub ;).

  • You train your biceps when you punch, you use them to pull the arm back, any body mechanic knows this. The faster you can withdraw the bicep which loads and primes the triceps, the faster you can punch with greater power. The message is you dont need big biceps for this. If you do have big guns, focus on using them to withdraw, and using the triceps to push. Also try throwing medicine balls and shot puts for explosive power to complement your training bubs ;).

  • Now, while I'm not going to insult the man as some others here have done, I will impart some wisdom about Martial Arts mechanics or body physics. With Ving Tsun or Boxing or Jujitsu for that matter, you had better have strong biceps because you need to withdraw your hand fast in punching especially when your hand gets tied up with grappling for example. What if someone grabbed you hand to lower it to nail your center line and you never trained your biceps...? You lose.More variables of course!

  • good point :)

but i think his point is that triceps increase punching power and biceps pulling power

but i see what you;re saying

but if you have decent strength and speed i assume you can get out a grip and quickly hit especially if it is a no rules fight rather than a cage fight

  • its unbelievable i just read about this LEUNG TING who calls himself grandmaster of Wing Chun schol when he is just a junior member!such arroganace and delusionment..and seem a lot of ppl has been duped! Please wake up! he is fraud and wife-beater and she was pregnant! this is totally rubbish , what a coward -he's just exploiting the people and martial arts, why call it ving tsun when its WING CHUN?? Fraudster and Coward.

  • Well, i don't like Leung Ting either but first of. Saying that he beat his wife has nothing to do with Wing Tsun moron. And it was just accusation that he beat her, i bet it has more story to it since he was just sentensed for 2 months in prison for doing such big crime. Secondly, you see his students doing WT fine... so it doesn't metter who teaches you. As long as the one who teach you can do it better than you :) . Begginers always want the best one to teach them while it's unnecesary..

  • You need total body fitness to perform any martial art. Imbalance in strength between the bicep and tricep can mess your arm up. Wing Chun has great striking principles, but sometimes you just gotta throw that left hook in a persons blind spot. Ya know?

  • Hope that unbreakable arm works in jail..wife beating scum.

  • what does that mean?

  • leung ting is a fraud

  • I think you are getting confused with william cheung

  • nearly every martial art is a mixed martial art by definition,

Ng Mui no doubt had seen other things before she taught young Wing chun, the girl who,s name the system is named after.

martial arts are like tools, you just need to pick the right tool for the right job.

A great ring fighter may not do well against 5 or more unskilled attackers, were as a wing chun person may be ok.

But then if those roles were reversed it would be bad for the average wing chun person in the Octagon at UFC.

  • hulkout666 youre just a sad little keyboard warrior, throwing angry words with the small brain you got. Go cry me a river.

  • I wish he could teach chris how to beat up a pregnant woman.

  • @WingChum can't you just push her down the stairs?

  • Yes they all have things that are useful but there is only one system i know of that is actually logical in a self defence situation.

  • Clearly i want to let you people who claim a lot any kind of Martial Art, they all are usefull..!! it´s diferent to sport like MMa and UFC..!! So simple, if any profissional boxer come to hit me on street, i will kick his balls, and fuck his eyes w my fingers, i don´t loose no time...like in the ring....its Martial Art all about, teaching us some tricks to defence ourself from bad guys..!! no matter if you fight ugly or beauty..!!

MMA n UFC is Sport, Martial Art is Self Defence

  • I don´t understand why people claim some styles..!! Every Martial Arts, teach how to selfdefences...!! That is why people care about..!! Some of you look like big Fan of UFC and MMA fighting, these are purely Sports..for entertainment..!!

Keep it in your mind, these athlete train hard, to fight w rules.......

  • Would have been good if Chris had went to Gary Lam's place

  • 2:16

  • Everyone always slashes a martial arts! I see it everywhere something wrong with this or that or this wont work or that wont work, everythink works! and it all works in diffrent fashion! we are humans and the human mind is great! All Martial arts is great! TKD, kung Fu, Jujitsu everythink! Martial arts no matter what is a more advanced way of fighting, and comming up against any martial artist well....your gonna know about.

  • He is so funny !

  • what's the correct method to throw a wing chun punch,i've been trying to figure it out but seems i'm i failed, how to punch as fast as wing chun practitioner did???

  • yea i tried but failed and i tired out FAST

  • to through the punch you have to start with your fist a fist distance away from ur sternum with ur elbow tucked into ur ribs and punch in a straight line up to chin level and follow the same line back again,it has to be straight not in a circular motion as iv seen on this before as you'll lose alot o power, to throw the punch you have to lift your elbow instead of throwing out your fist. thats how its done wing tsun, id say its the same in wing chun. and to get the speed it just takes practice.

  • and don't forget to keep your shoulders square. less reach, but more power.

  • true and if your moving forward use the falling step for extra power

  • bluce ree had biseps for trapping and throwing. wing chun was only a fraction of the martial arts he used in his jeet kun do.

  • These pathetic arguments people have in these comment sections are sooo stupid. I don't understand why people can't just watch the video and not have a go at someone else's opinion. We all have different opinions. So what, it's not going too change by having a go at that person. Yet again another nice video from Mind, Body and Kick Ass Moves!

  • i just wonder,if i don't do weight training,can i do bodyweight training,like push up or pull up???for wing chun??

  • Obviosuly u can do push ups, they work ur tricep, but shouldnt do much more

  • im a fitness instructor:

pushups work your chest (main muscle) and biceps and triceps and traps a bit too.

and pull ups depending on your arm positioning on the bar and your range of motion will work your biceps, triceps, shoulders, lats.

this is still classed as weight training and your body is most likely heavyer than the avrage weight you use in your routine.

    any questions just ask

  • nice video

  • im been training in boxing for 5 years if i where to fight theese guys i think illed end up dead or some shit fucking hell lol

  • i hope to one day learn this fighting style

  • i can't really say much on the martial arts itself without actually learning it and so on. but i really have to say, his voice is very annoying

  • There is lies the greatness of Bruce Lee unlike other martial artists, early in his life he came to realized that fighting is not the sole commodity of wing chun nor any other styles. It doesn't matter how you deliver a punch if it works for you then take it regardless of where it came from wing chun, karate, boxing, taekwondo. Don't encase yourself in a style!

  • Exactly, learn the basics and adapt it that best suits yourself.

  • Comment removed

  • Mike Tyson's punch measures 1200 PSI or pounds per square inch, Bruce Lee's measures 2000 psi. Bruce said himself that when you punch you keep your arm relaxed until the last second, on impact you snap your arm (around 2-3 inches behind your target). meaning his bulked up biceps wouldn't hinder his punches.

(assuming facts are right, there from a national news website, and National Geographic)

  • @JscWilson 2000psi punch from a guy that small and he'd be able to rip someones head off while they had a motorcycle helmet on, or blow up a cinder block. and would probably be the most powerful person who ever lived. /facepalm

  • @JscWilson , are you sure Bruce Lee's punch measures 2000 psi???If that

is the case, I would have a very hard time to beat him then. You are shitting me right?

  • @wingchunexpert

At time of that post i didn't have much understanding and couldn't really comprehend how much force that was. The numbers posted were me simply relaying information i had read from that national news article. I have done a lot more reading since then, and yes those numbers do seem out of line now. The original news article isn't on the website any more, and the closest thing i could find (about 2min of looking tho) was this page -> rockyourmindbodyspirit.eventbrite(dot)com

  • Comment removed

  • who cares ;D

  • ...because of course, no-one in the UFC has any biceps.....duh!!

  • Comment removed

  • As a WT student and a lover of martial arts, I disagree with the biceps etc not being important.

Thier are many other techinques used in combat that require biceps.

But punching wise, triceps are needed not biceps.

  • if learned correctly the tricep is also hardly needed ... its all about the body connection...within oneself to generate the power...

  • His choice of words was poor. I think he meant that you shouldn't be too tense when punching. You should be relaxed. But his comment about no weightlifting is stupid. Even though I am 37 years old now, I am faster than when I was younger and didn't do weight training. It's also given me more muscle control and stamina. So many martial artists still believe the old myth about weight training making you musclebound even though there's absolutely no proof of this.

  • No.. only aout a few thousand years proof... Did you ever think that your speed cos faster cos you got up off your lazy ass? 8)

  • Comment removed

  • Just what fucking proof are you referring to, smartass? You make a lot of assumptions, don't you. I started Wing Chun at the age of 12, boxing at the age of 15. I've also done competitive running and track and field most of my life. During those early years, I did no weight training. At the age of 20, I started and never looked back, My speed, stamina, and flexibility all improved. Every successful athlete in every sport weight trains. Once again, where is your fucking proof, asshole?

  • wing chun should be used in the ufc :(

wing chun +bjj = fucking awesome

  • Wing Chun is very effective, but requires more skill and technique. Prize fighters prefer faster methods of learning, and do not focus on such rigorous technique.

Remember that MMA is still primarily a ring sport much like boxing.

  • wing chun also teaches you dirty tricks to kill some one like strikes to the throat.

  • no waste liftings by leung ting

  • does anyone currently in the UFC use this ?

  • No,, UFC is mix martial art!

MMA is more deal with Karate, Judo or Jujitsu, wrestling, and boxing or kick boxing or muay thai!!

Wing Chun is deal with people who on the street like punks or people who are dangerous!

Wing Chun is a quick street take down method!!

  • @codeagent47 jkd is true concept of mma bruce lee is the god father of mma ..forever evolving fighter using what works whats efficent tue economy of motion but bruces thoerys are still not ued fightig has not really evolved to far ... to what we are capable as humans we have so much to realise in martial arts ...andersn silva is prob the best him in octavio quentero n acouple others

  • Sammo Hung rules

  • having biceps wont hinder a punch if you throw the punch properly , when you extend the arm the bicep relaxes to allow the triceps to contract, if you have trained properly the bicep will NOT hinder movement or power at all. the only way smaller would be better is less to grab a hold of and more muscle to use more energy and wear you out faster if you have insufficient cardio in your training program

  • really? look at the people with 22 inch arms and tell them to throw punches then comeback to me

  • I think Leung Ting Sam knows what he's on about

  • what about when you throw a right hook, you use your bicep dont you, yeah its good to have a balance of muscular tone in your arm

  • no a hook does not use your biceps.

  • depends how you throw the hook, if you start with your arm straight out as if your throwing a jab then turn it into a hook (like Chuck Lidell does in UFC) then you do use it......besides, the force of your punch is the speed times the mass, and the more bicep you have, the more massive your arm is in general which allows for greater force of impact.....Im not trying to discredit the fighting style in this video though, it has validity in a real fight just like so many other striking.....

  • bs.

    prove it.

  • Flat palm -> temple of someone's head -> KO or Stun.

This isn't a style in which power = bad. This is more of a style in which power isn't required to win. It's a semi decent style but nowhere near the top tier of martial arts.

Off-topic though, zomg Sammo Hung :O.

  • I teach wing chun and know very well that the system tends to use structure over power, but you still need muscle. I'll never take Ting too seriously - I just feel sorry for his students who have to listen to this kind of stuff

  • I'd rather take him seriously, than some guy who calls himself KungFuKing.

But I agree, even with the best structure you need at least a little power to back it up. And chain punches can only work, if each individual punch transmits enough force to do at least a little structural damage.

(You can throw pease at an oak door for quite some time without leaving any marks, but with chisels you'll eventually make a hole.)

  • it's a nickname... just like your nickname is 'twat'.

and it is much better to do one or two hits well, than a thousand hits sloppily

  • OK, agreed (apart from the nicknames thing)

But It's not about one great or 1000 sloppy punches.

It's about one powerful miss vs. 15 out of 30 decent hits.

    But my main point is:

I'm not strong enough, so one of my punches won't do the trick, ergo I'll have to find another solution.

If the individual punches are strong enough to cause some structural damage, a series of those punches will eventually get me off the hook. (Provided I can land them.)

I agree wit your biceps comment by the by.

  • lol everyone dont be stupid ofc u need power and in wing chun, i do it and your power comes mainly fromt he tricepts so it is much quicker and also very powerful, e.g bruce lee's inch punch.

  • You need both triceps and biceps. There are times when you lifet your hands upwards, and yes you use more body structire than muscle, but you still need the muscle. Its a great misconception. It is definately not a hinderence having big biceps (wish I had some). In BJJ you do well if you have strength, but you don't need to be a bodybuilder so the same is across all martial arts.

  • why didnt chris go and see ip ching if he wanted to know about wing chun even though he went to see his brother!

  • to get out of any hold you need your biceps, and you call yourself a master. I would love to take on ten of your student with using jeet kune do

  • you do have a point, when shooting the jab the power of the biceps is not needed. but, the speed and force that is used to protect yourself when the jab returns comes from the biceps. also, in grappling the power to reverse rist locks and arm bars is from the help of the biceps. this is why bruce lee conditioned his body the way he did, not just for movies. for you to be a master why would you make a stupit statement like that,im not even a master and i know better than that
