Can you remember what seat you were in please I am taking my daughter on her first flight, UK Domestic, manchester to london, and we have booked seats 6E and 6F, 6F being a window seat, however looking at the seat plan and the windows on the outside of the aircraft, there dosn't appear to be a window in that position at all !!
I am flying the 737-400 to Amsterdam in June and I am a very nervous flyer but I have been on a flying without fear course with Virgin and to be honest it wasnt what it cracked up to be :( so BA has my vote
This is not a "Bumpy Landing". This is a good landing. The British Airways pilots have always had a good reputation. Please consider that, since the Seventies, this kind of airplanes MUST be equipped with the AUTOLANDING, and sometimes it's impossible to say wheather or not it was on at the moment of the touchdown.
Its not our fault if the new runway at heathrow is bumpy! We do our best and as a BA pilot I think you should redo the description because if the reverse thrust was not there im sorry but you would not be here today!
ivenheard from oxford aviation students tha ba is the best airline to be with if you are a pilot, they pay you a lot for the little amount of work you do.
Easy get is probably the worst airline a pilot wants to be in. Lots and lots of hard work, little pay.
To upload, you capture the video from your tape from your camera by using a video editing software e.g. Windows Movie maker. You plug in your USB 2.0/ Firewire into the PC and then capture using realtime. Then to make the video useable, after putting it onto the timeline, go to "file", "save movie file" and make it a highh quality "large" video, although this doesn't bring the best quality. Then, when it is now a .wmv file, you can upload it onto YouTube. It's dead simple.
your right because if you see alot of videos of planes landing you will hear alot of increase of throttle and decrease . like for ex a 747 is landing lets say before landing he is gong 245 mph for ex but i know for sure he must keep speed of 117 mph so if he decreases to much he goes lower then he suppose to go and that will make the plane land farther than its landing point and throttles to high he will just overshoot the runway and and if he lands it he will just crash.
BA's pilots always land hard... make the engines throttle up and down every second ... there meant to be the best of the best Pilots to get in... but i think there trainned that way...
would u rather the plane fell out the sky? the throttling up and down on final approach is needed to keep the speed the same!! 26L at LGw has the shear layer caused by the hangars. poor trained pilots would leave the power and accept a bad landing
nope, i found out that the ATHR does it all and if it's manually done it, it would just need a small ammount of thrust apllied instead of attcully REVING it up the whole time..
Ha the autothrottle is disconnected before landing. I'd like to see you come in to land with no change on the throttles!! Its funny most of the threads on here are obviously written by people who just don't have a clue. Know your facts before dissing people off.
i wasn't dissing so stay out of this mr.wiseguy... who do you think you are ? stop being rude and butting into a convo like mine it was an fact that they do it. it's the autothrottle you kinda missed the point that the convo is over by now... :|
Maybe the fact i fly ba's 734's means i might know a little about it.... approaches are done with the a/t in until 1000R so the spooling up and down is manual thrust. What do u fly, cessna's?
your right because if you see alot of videos of planes landing you will hear alot of increase of throttle and decrease . like for ex a 747 is landing lets say before landing he is gong 245 mph for ex but i know for sure he must keep speed of 117 mph so if he decreases to much he goes lower then he suppose to go and that will make the plane land farther than its landing point and throttles to high he will just overshoot the runway and and if he lands it he will just crash.

yh, but tbh, and i am british, i have found every BA landing hard, and i dont think they are the best of the best. Its jst propaganda type advetising to say their airline is the best. I mean, all pilots are amazing, to actualy get the aircraft on the ground takes amazing skill, but during my travels, i have found the asian airlines to actualy have the best landings, for example Qatar, Malaysia, Singapore etc.
yh, the throttle up and down is completely normal, you cant glide down to the runway completely safely without the use of engine power every now and again, but once i did ask a BA pilot why they dont use reverse thrust during landing anymore, esp during takeoff. He said it was because of noise abaitment procedures, and he said that they wont use it unless something is wrong or the landing was too high and fast etc. And guess what...they applied full reverse thrust.
Mate that was reverse normal in the video. We use it most of the time so i don't know which ba pilot you spoke to! As for the better landings in Asia do you think it might be due to the runway length and landing conditions?
i agree, runway length will play a difference and the runways in asia tend to be longer. So you may be right, prehaps it is down to that, but when i landed in Beijing (note their runway size is average) conditions where poor, visibility was down to the minimum because of the smog that Beijing suffers from, the landing was amazing, smooth approach, smooth final and idle reverse thrust. The reverse thrust in this video is normal, it isnt idle reverse thrust which is allowed at most airports
We use normal reverse at most airports at heavy weights. I'm not doubting your experience of nice landings in Asia and poor ones here, maybe you were just unlucky. Bad vis is the precursor of very stable air so no doubt a smooth approach and landing. I haven't done or experienced a bad landing on BA in over a year now.
Well in my time of flying ( i am only 14 so its probably not matched to yours) i have never, and i am being serious here, ever experienced a good BA landing. Also, on many of the flights i have been on, normal reverse thrust is scarcely used. About 1 in every 5 flights i have been on have used normal reverse thrust. And actually, Virgin Atlantic airlines landings are usually very good as well.
And BA are not that bad, compared to easyjet or ryanair. And as for the long haul, yes they were all on big jets. I know Boeing 737s use reverse thrust practically all the time. Every time i have been in a 737 they have used it. At the time i wrote my first comment i thought this 737 was using a reverse thrust one higher that normal as it seemed soo loud. I only jst found out about Normal reverse thrust and idle reverse.
THey are much better than BA (at everything in my view) Their landing in Dubai however was awful. It was great visibility, hot conditions, light winds, high pressure etc, it did not seem like bad conditions to me.
You must have been on long haul flights then, the B777 and B744 rarely use normal reverse. We use it pretty much every day on the 737. Virgin are better in everything, interesting! How so? More ezpensive and ruder staff to start with!
I find their staff much better than BA. BA are so rude and unpleasant. They have better facilites, better upper class, their premium economy and economy are pretty shite but i dont go on those classes.
I think ba is a brilliant airline compared to richard bransons VIRGIN atlantic that is really a peice of garbage compared to ba. Maybe you should be nicer to ba
ok, well how come virgin is considerably cheaper than Ba in upper class and lets bear in mind that virgin's upper class has a longer and wider seat/bed than BA first and buisness class by many inches?! virgin has an onboard bar BA doesnt, BA doesnt have a limo service - virgin does...Virgin is far more superior to BA
You do know that virgin's business operating model is based on longhaul only and BA fly's all over the world to shorthaul destinations and operates a much wider service. I give you that virgin has a better IFE but remember.
Its reverse normal in this vid. we use it to ensure we make the first exit at gatwick instead of trundling down to the end. saves 2mins taxiing in :-)
depends on the type of plane, the alititude, the wieght etc. i think the b747 when fully loaded takes off at 200 mph, but as far as i know, ithink concorde had the highest comercial takeoff speed
Hi there, let me just say its a real good video. But i get a better view as i am a pilot for british airways and i pilot a 737-400. On the video it didnt look like it was a bumpy landing as they are mostly like that. Sometimes i fell sorry for the passengers sat on the wing as i am always nice warm and in more quietness than them in me cockpit. once again nice video.
Why is it so noisy? Sometimes the flaps on the engines open up, but u can hardly hear the reverse thrust. other times you can hear it and sometimes, as with this one, their louder of softer. Why is this?
probably because the plane came too fast while it land i was in frankfurt and the weather was bad and we landed faster than normal the pilot said that b/c of the weather the plane had to be land fast! but thats what i think tho!
Could you help?

Also british airways is getting most of terminal 5 if not all of it.
it must be quite a good compzny if it gets that.

Well BA HAS all of Terminal 5 as they are the main carrier at heathrow airport. DUUH!

They are the old version CFM engines. You can't expect the quietest engine in the world anyway.
