A 275 all weather tire might as well be a sheet of ice. The Z06 clearly states he has Ram Air Intake and Bullets. The stock mufflers are way efficient for the car and an 'AIR INTAKE' really isn't adding a whole lot without a tune being dialed in. So, either way, the vette would have won in this case. You should read the title of the vid.
5.0 only weighs 3450 and with a blower would of smoked that Z hands down. 560rwhp blown 5.0 would of gang raped that Z by buslengths. GT500 weighs 4000lbs, zo6 only 3300.

The 5.0 would have to have some work in it, the right tire, gear, tune, f/i? etc. to run with a C6 Z06 on the streets given the Z06 driver can drive. Secondly, I think you might get embarrassed if a 600hp Z pulled up next to your 68 mustang. I've seen the new 5.0 run high 12s low 13s at the track. Gears, intake, exhaust, tune, tires, I've seen them run as strong as low 12s with just those mods.

Also that 10.6 is without any bolt-ons. 2011 GT500s are a completely different animal from the pre 2011 GT500s. A 2011 GT500 is almost on par with a Z, its extra 500lbs is holding it back.
@marcomariaz26 Sounds like a Ford problem. HOWEVER there are 5.7's and even 5.0s that can beat the 5.4 supercharged. In reality its not about cubic inches-its about horsepower you build INSIDE. My Z06/ LS6 is producing 440hp to the wheels and its not even supercharged. So in reality cubic inches doesn't matter. Look at the new 5.0. That engine has serious potential and its not even supercharged. Best thing ever...the LS6 can STILL be supercharged to produce MORE HP...again its a Ford problem.

@agc612 personally know a guy with an 08 shelby, has the 4.0L crusher kit from evo performance with 4.10s and a built tranny, thing hangs the front wheels a couple feet, thats serious power, sounds like a mother coming down the straight, however hooking up the wheels? if he uses anything but full on m/ts he spins through 4th, that was the main issue with shelby mustangs, all the power and torque and tiny meats in the back

I would hate to have spent money on the gt500 brand new knowing I could have a used zo6 for the same money or less. Buying the vette would get me better top speed , better mileage , and a better track car. The biggest plus would be buying it used , letting someone else get their nuts kicked in on depreciation and having the cars value stabilize better

I don't claim to be an expert on cars, but a '68 is still a very cherry ride. Besides which they are still some quick cars despite how old they are, especially after a tune up and upgrade (40+ years catches up pretty fast).

@irvinemuscles irvinemuscles, you're a dumbass, Its not 'normal' for a GT to compete with a C6 Z06. The 5.0 would have to have some work in it, the right tire, gear, tune, f/i? etc. to run with a C6 Z06 on the streets given the Z06 driver can drive. Secondly, I think you might get embarrassed if a 600hp Z pulled up next to your 68 mustang. I've seen the new 5.0 run high 12s low 13s at the track. Gears, intake, exhaust, tune, tires, I've seen them run as strong as low 12s with just those mods.

@irvinemuscles 1,000 lbs more? The GT500 is NOT over 4,000 lbs. I can't quote you the exact weight, but I know it's under 4,000. Try 700-800 lbs of difference. Race what you brung, don't make excuses and say, "Race this other car, then talk shit". A car that is heavier will obviously have to make up for that weight with additional power, if the driver didn't do that it's on him.

@agc612 Of course a 5.0 would need forced induction, are you retarded? 5.0L vs 7.0L? plus the 7.0L has 4.125" bores. Fi makes up for displacement. and a new 5.0L auto with nothing but a blower and sticky tires run 10.6@133 mph, fyi, that's better then the ZR1. which has an extra 1.2L on it and 3-400lbs less. Also that 10.6 is without any bolt-ons. 2011 GT500s are a completely different animal from the pre 2011 GT500s. A 2011 GT500 is almost on par with a Z, its extra 500lbs is holding it back.

@marcomariaz26 Sounds like a Ford problem. HOWEVER there are 5.7's and even 5.0s that can beat the 5.4 supercharged. In reality its not about cubic inches-its about horsepower you build INSIDE. My Z06/ LS6 is producing 440hp to the wheels and its not even supercharged. So in reality cubic inches doesn't matter. Look at the new 5.0. That engine has serious potential and its not even supercharged. Best thing ever...the LS6 can STILL be supercharged to produce MORE HP...again its a Ford problem.

@agc612 personally know a guy with an 08 shelby, has the 4.0L crusher kit from evo performance with 4.10s and a built tranny, thing hangs the front wheels a couple feet, thats serious power, sounds like a mother coming down the straight, however hooking up the wheels? if he uses anything but full on m/ts he spins through 4th, that was the main issue with shelby mustangs, all the power and torque and tiny meats in the back

I would hate to have spent money on the gt500 brand new knowing I could have a used zo6 for the same money or less. Buying the vette would get me better top speed , better mileage , and a better track car. The biggest plus would be buying it used , letting someone else get their nuts kicked in on depreciation and having the cars value stabilize better
