great video. 1 question though, I was aware that protein helps you to burn fat by making your body use the fat stores for energy instead of glycogen? if u eat balanced carbs..not just veggies but myabe some wholegrain 'X' with protein, does it still work? will i burn fat? or will my body just get energy from carbs?
Hello! Have you considered cleverous 402 diet (search on google)? Ive heard some great things about it and my work buddy lost a ton of weight with it.
good points in this video. The typical standard american diet is based off of sugar or carbs. I hear everyone talking about how bad the american diet is (which it is) and yet when doing a diet such as the paleo diet or the atkins diet, you are basically doing the exact same thing, except with proteins and not carbs.
This is a summary. 0:30 Misuse of the body; car analogy. 0:50 Auto-regulation of the body. 1:13 Clarification of carbohydrates 1:32 Metabolic typing failure. 2:07 Protein overdose, explanation. 2:22 Physiological explanation. Problems with hypoglycemia and stress hormones. 3:30 PUFAs exasperate the problem. 3:35 Summary 3:55 Effects on thyroid, cholesterol & immune.system. 4:40 Tryptophan & serotonin excess & effects. 5:26 Dietary, recommendations. The End.
I have a question, that maybe you can help me with. If you are a type 1 diabetic, should you be eating mostly complex carbs (below ground vegetables) along with small to moderate amounts of protein and fat, or does that pertain to type 2 diabetics. I'm not diabetic, but I do know somebody that is, and if I can keep him from following the typical diabetic lifestyle of eating as much junk food as possible but using diet soda as an excuse, then that would be great.
Question: in the UK, gelatin is increasingly hard to come by (I think there may be a building hysteria about what it's made of), and organic gelatin does not exist. Should I attempt to import organic gelatin or will conventional be OK? Obviously I'm thinking that the parts of the animal used for gelatin, in a conventionally raised animal, will be likely unhealthy...
I eat Tons of Greens and Tons of meats, Not much carbs from cereals as im gluten intolerant, I eat as much as i can from gluten free while feeling satisfied of course..
its not much. I do have sugars from small pieces of fruit per meal.
and well Fat from animal and fat from vegetable..
I can see it work if I Eat most of Carbs in a heavy workout kind of day, 3 per week.
all other days I eat sortof low carb (grains) always high on GREEN Leafs
Not an amount, just talking about an imbalance between ratios and people consistently eating muscle meats for snacks and with meals that are too low in carbs (veggies)
Nice clip, thanks Josh. I find listening to my body is really important. I respond better to different amount of carbs during the day. Lots of different veges at all meals and plenty of dark leafy greens makes me feel good :) I think people do over-consume protein forgetting that you get so many great vit, minerals and enzymes from plants. You need all 3 food groups but not in excess. I find books like Nourishing Traditions promote a nice healthy balance.
@joshrubineastwest This is true. But protein also stimulates glucagon which starts the process of gluconeogenesis. Thats why the insulin/glucagon seesaw is incredibly important especially. Glucagon also stimulates lipolysis which aids in Ketosis, so I would think you could maintain a healthy blood sugar of lets say 80 with out being truly hypoglycemic.
Again it's really going to be hard to protein load unless you're eating lean meat cuts and protein powder. Meats usually present with fat.
You are repeating what I just said in my youtube. But I am not talking about eating just protein, carb and fats in a right ratio. Of course you get a response from glucagon, insulin, etc. But I am talking about a diet that most eat that is too high in protein in relation to carbs (sugar).

I have noticed a lot of improvements after going from wheat based diets to chicken based diet. I really want to try beef and pork though but I live in a vegetarian family... :(
Great video. This basically proves that humans are omnivores, and not carnivores or herbivores/frugivores like a lot of people think. We are meant to eat all types of foods, whether they be from plants or animals, just as long as they are whole foods, natural, and not processed. BTW, is there any general percentage of carbs we should be eating on a daily basis?

So Josh you are a 33/33/33 guy? Equal quantities of all at each meal?

@ss4vegeta1
Moderate protein, using gelatin as the other source, mod veggies and fats. I don't go off ratios, I just find what works for me and clients.

Why would your body break down it's tissues during gluconeogenesis if your taking in extra protein in your diet?
I would think your body would use the amino in your diet especially if theirs excess before it would tap into your lean tissue.

Serotonin is bad? You mean when too high?
PhantasyMan01 1 year ago
@PhantasyMan01
Serotonin in excess yes i not good..causes lipid peroxidation, blocks glucose oxidation, inc melatonin, etc, etc, etc
